I really do get that the phrase “the curtains are just fucking blue” is meant to act as more of a response against English teachers who either teach students to believe there’s only one correct interpretation of a story and/or that if your not getting anything major out of a certain story your reading it wrong.
But also considering the amount of times recently I’ve seen people genuinely say stuff like “it’s not that serious”, “your looking too deep into this” I can’t help but lump “the curtains are just fucking blue” into that pile lol
Like yeah sure maybe the curtains were just blue, maybe the author wrote the curtains were blue just because blue was the first color to come into there mind. That doesn’t make it wrong for someone else to interpret the blue as meaning something. Someone interpreting the blue curtains as representing the main character’s sadness or whatever lol isn’t any more wrong than someone else interpreting the curtains as being blue just because lol.
Many do not consider the fact that lestat being able to be more outwardly feminine than Louis was able to during the new Orleans era while he abused Louis and Claudia to be a critique on how white queers are able to transgress social norms expected of their gender way more easily than queer black people are able to in our society....many such cases.......
iwtv seasons one and two was like being tucked into bed and read a heartbreaking story by Louis du pointe du lac. The Vampire Lestat is like your blackout drunk uncle trying to tell you an anecdote at a family gathering
no offence but i think a lot of us me included don’t actually want romantic love as badly as we think and really are just lonely and crave a closeness and intimacy that feels out of reach in friendships because of society’s emphasis on marriage and the nuclear family so we project that into the never ending search for a perfect love and a soulmate when really we all just want to mean something to someone
"I've never heard of Megan Thee Stallion before" if you've ever said any variation of "Hot Girl Summer" then congratulations you've benefitted from an internationally popular Black female artist's creativity
"I thought those were just memes" yeah y'all tend to do this to a lot of things Black people create and/or do, while conveniently cutting them out in the process. You should really consider how easy it was and why that is. I do have a suggestion.
It might bother me a little less (but not much) if I didn't have to log on and there's Random White Guy/White Girl #262849 that we're all apparently supposed to recognize as Pivotal Pop Culture, but Black artists who've been putting in work for years and actually affecting your entertainment in ways you don't even bother to perceive are somehow "just celebrities" that you missed. You're telling me I'm supposed to know who Jerma is, but Megan Thee Stallion is miss-able? Mmmm Something's Fishy...
