Happy Random Wednesday! It has been a long time since my last post but I’m hoping to start posting more often.

Here is my work called “Fishing Under the Cave”

I wanted to work on more environmental backgrounds and thought back to some underwater experiences. The work is to make you slow down and look around with a calm feeling to envelop it.

Outside Influences

This was another project from another class where we made a flower field. I was working late on the project, so when I was done I took a picture and then set it next to our light lamp. When I turned the lights off I could see all the tones of the piece. But the crazy change of color palettes just by changing the lighting is fun to mess around with.

I went to the SCAD Museum event where they were showcasing artists' works and one stood out to me. I only took pictures of 4 of the 12 moons presented but these were by far my favorite. These works of art were made by Ann Craven. These works all have the same setting, a tree is blocking the way to the moon. But, how they present that is all different. The colors are either warm or cold, one tree or multiple.

Walking around Savanah is a very pretty place to be. Each of these images conveys a different mood even if they have many similarities. Even with a few differences, it could completely change the setting and theme. Simply making this a nighttime setting would convey a spookier or very calm feeling when these images are conveying warm and cheerful colors.

I went out to the Scad museum to take pictures of the Alex Townsend Grand Courtyard. Also known as 'Silence is golden.' I went in the nighttime and then one in the day. The atmosphere already had a drastic change with a dull to bright and colorful feeling. The darkness blends the water with the rest of the background while having a brighter setting makes the water stand out more, even capturing the waterdrops too.

I have been slowly moving away from anime with all the work I have to get done and overall it's getting a little bit repetitive. However, there are still some good animes I watch out there and one of them is JOJO's Bizzare Adventures.

This Is Jolyne Kujo and she is the main character for the most recent season that came out. This is her normal appearance.

This then becomes her appearance whenever she is under pressure or in some sort of danger. Using color emphasizes the struggle the character is going through to make it out of the situation they are in.

Outside Influences

This just reminded me a lot of the Red room. This is the Red Arcade in the 'Backrooms Found Footage' that I do believe might have been inspired by The Red Room. It gives me the same feeling and the detailed highlights stand out to me.

Class Discussion: The French Dispatch

We watched a trailer in class showing 'The French Dispatch.' Throughout the trailer, it showed various cut scenes with all different kinds of moods set by lighting and color. The director was so careful as to which clothes would the characters be wearing in each scene and what they were doing to further enhance that feeling.

I want to try and replicate this image with my own style and maybe the use of different colors to help fit into a narrative.

Class Discussion: Wes Anderson's Color Palettes

Wes's work is to be considered 'dream-like' with its use of color and scenery. They have Hazed-hue leans that are unique to Wes and their take on films.

“Anderson’s color palettes are integral to his cinematic ‘world-building’. His eye for art direction and fantastic attention to detail creates the appropriate space and tone for his characters to exist in – and for the viewer to lose themselves in. They ultimately become their own visual language, the way character themes are elaborated in cinematic scores, allowing an immersive visual experience whether the sound is on or not.”

The use of on and off colors is something I'm going to try and use for my next project. This specific color palette is above this text. The highlights and shades make the image look like there is a floating element to it which I find very interesting.

Class Discussion: Sho Shibuya

Sho Shibuya is known for painting newspaper articles to fit the mood of that daily paper. He wanted to paint realistic sunrises and sunsets is how it all started. Then he moved on to simple yet effective shaped to help further his artwork and represent what that article was conveying.

His artworks are very pretty and simple. It's fun to look at and feels like it's part of the article.

Class Discussion: An Artist's Clever Reuse of the Fashion Image.

I personally really liked the look of all these photos and how the backgrounds either made them stand out or blend in the models' edges but still put emphasis on them.

Jojo Gronostay is the one behind the images and he wanted to create his own artwork using fashion. Once he got up the in his industry and wining a reward, he still didn't want to be a wonder.

Class Discussion: We Exist to Open Eyes

Josef Albers and Anni Albers were both big parts of the way color is now looked at today. And even changed the way people thought about art making. They both taught classes and are big influencers to the next generation of artist.

Class Discussion: In Search of True Color

This article was talking about how to bring old copies of photos back to life with color despite not having color in the early 1900s. Prokudin-Gorsky was the person to invent color photography and with his standings as a publisher and editor, he was able to push his own photography to the public.

Soon, people followed the pursuit of this new colored photography and tried their best to hone in on the human eye to best get the results they were looking for. Using reflections of light to try and best capture the image. Over time they got better at finding the patterns of colors and putting them into photography.

Class discussion: Louis Vuitton

Within looking at the opening intro to the cover page of this website, already I saw the amount of coordination from different art industries including fashion, animation, photography, visual graphics, and more.

They were sponsoring a new fashion campaign where the main theme is dots. But not just painted dots, they also have metal dots, infinity dots, and psychedelic dots. And even though they are very well known and selling, they still make their craft but hand. The clothing, purses, and so on.

They even had their own building and remodeled it for the start of the campaign. I love the work that went into this and the different verities. Even something as simple as dots and be made into wonderful artworks.

Over the entire quarter, I have been participating in SCAD activities thought-out and had a lot a fun for a few extra points of credit.

Reading #4 Albers (Last reading)

This was a section from a book called 'The Artists Voice' and it is where we got to read a Q&A about Josef Albers's point of view on art and colors. Of all the artists I have read about so far, none stood out as much as his take on art. He talks about how art doesn't have to be about realism or abstraction. It doesn't need to be about expression and it might be a term that is being over used. Each questioned asked had a deep answer to it. He took his time to dissect his own thoughts and opinions and then explain himself. It might have just been me but at first, I thought he was avoiding the color questions because he would always word it differently or focus on another part of the question like term or if it were a two parter question. He also talks about how to convey messages and how different people can see different points of views. How someone can look at grass and just see grass while another could get a closer look and see a forest. It was very fun to read his thoughts as I have never really heard them before.
