Laila rose her head at th other, not fully understanding that the other was talking to her at first. They weren’t sharing a table, she was eating and reading at the same time, but open enough to hear Andi. Taking her eyes from the book, she reached for a napkin and with the help with that, open a cookie. “Embrace change; don’t fight it”, she said, showing of her papper with a shrug. “What does yours say anyway?” she dropped the question with real curiosity.

“Fair warning if you lose your appetite, but mine says ‘Pigeon poop burns the retina for 13 hours. You will learn this the hard way.” She shook her head in disgust at why on earth someone would write such a thing and place it inside the cookie. “People are vile.”

Aalis almost burst out laughing when she heard Andi’s response to whatever it said on her fortune. At her request, she cracked open her own before lifting the piece of paper, “Interesting… mine says your example will inspire others. I really hope not,” she laughed, thinking of her unhealthy habits, “What was on yours after all that?”

“At least yours is positive,” she said placing her cookie and fortune back down on table with slight disgust. “Mine says for rectal use only. Who the heck makes these things anyways?” she scoffed. Flagging the waiter down for the check, she had lost her appetite. “Want to go elsewhere?”

Kiara raised her eyebrow before looking down to her fortune cookie and hummed, “Uhm… mine says ‘a cynic is only a frustrated optimist.’ – okay… whatever.” She snorted rather ironically. She looked back over to the other and woman and nodding towards her fortune. “Why? What does yours say?”

Laughing at Kiara’s fortune, she went on “Mines say, ‘Tomorrow morning take a right turn as soon as you leave home to find your answer,” she handed the fortune over to Kiara as she finished her meal. “I have unanswered questions, but that’s just strange.” Was someone watching her? Or maybe she was being paranoid with her newfound courage to confront Holden.

A slight chuckle escaped him as he noticed Andi’s reaction; he saw fortune cookies as a mere joke that had no actual implication whatsoever. As a matter of fact, they were an American invention, created a little over a century ago, on the opposite side of the country. “Mine says you’ve really enjoyed our date.” He teased as a smirk slyly crossed his features. “Just kidding, it says something about the road to success being rocky but fulfilling. See? Stupid fortune cookie saying. What does yours say?”

Her heart skipped a beat when Rowan mentioned the word date. This wasn’t an actual date was it? She hadn’t formally gone out on one since James passed. She had to eventually. Her mom would be rather pleased. “What the heck?” She grabbed his fortune to read his and looked back over hers. “Mine says, ‘You couldn’t be less interesting. But you’re going to keep trying aren’t you?’” she scoffed. Looking around the room to see if someone was playing a joke on her, she looked back at Rowan, “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Asterin laughed, “Oh I entirely do.” She sipped at her hot drink to lower the level a bit, “Gotta keep my eyes open some how.” they had sat for quite sometime without chatter. “What are you working on over there anyways?” She asked settling into her chair again. Her brain needed a break.

She smiled as her friend took her seat back satisfied that she had caffeine in her hands. “Reviewing some of our writers content for work that will be live by the end of the week and writing up my own to post,” she said as she sent a final email for one of the transcripts to go live. “Nothing to exciting. How about you? You seemed to be quite invested in those books there,” she reached over for one. “What is this anyways?”

She nodded her head to her dinner companion’s comment as she opened her fortune cookie. It was something she always looked forward to as a kid anytime her parents ordered take out or dined in a Chinese establishment. “Unbelievable,” she muttered, confused by the fortune. “This has got to be a joke.” Looking up across to her dinner date she went on to ask, “What does yours say?”

“No it’s cool. Hit a guy when he’s trying to work.” Harrison replied to no one in particular, holding a glass of ice to his face as he sat by the bar at Fitzgerald. He had promised Rosalie to stop fighting professionally and he’d made good on his word, but that didn’t stop someone from randomly coming down and punching him right in the face after doing a set at his other job. “Isn’t there supposed to be a code of conduct where fights stay in the ring? Unless this had nothing to do with that and I got punched for having been a dick in the past. Anyway, so my glass is empty, do you want a drink? “

Andi couldn’t help but laugh as Harrison complained about getting a fist to the face. Not that she was one to promote violence; she could slightly see why somebody did punch him. Subtly had a big ego on his shoulder in certain occasion. “I don’t think anger can be contained four posts and ropes,” she gave him a look of pity. As he offered her a drink, she nodded as she worked on finishing her current glass. “So who punched you and are you going to retaliate?”

Asterin sat in a corner booth with only her laptop and a stack of old books, her fingers fly across the keyboard as she pour over the yellowed pages. She had spent months looking for these books and she wasn’t going to let them go back to the library without copying them first. Her eyes drooped a little but the call of her name at the counter brought them right back open. She closed her computer slightly and hurried to the counter to snag her coffee. As she turned around she almost knocked her drink out of her own hands by running into someone, “Gods I am so sorry.” Her voice a little frantic.

On her way in to the shop, she saw Asterin working on some things and decided to take a seat with her as she finished writing up a piece on how to achieve minimalistic lifestyle changes for Refinery. The two had very minimum conversation, as they both were enthralled in their individual work. That was until Asterin rose from her seat to grab a coffee. As she walked back to the table, she chuckled as her friend collided into someone. “Nicely done, Asterin. Maybe you don’t need the caffeine...”

She was attending one of the most unique bridal showers ever. It was a merged beer and tea party for the bride and groom with all their closest friends and family. 200 guests to be exact. It may has well have been the wedding itself. The best man was practicing his speech for the crowd when he began going on a tangent, announcing to the group rather personal information about the groom and bride. As the room began to experience second-hand embarrassment, Emerson pulled her teacup towards her mouth to suppress her laughter, muttering to the person beside her, “Good Lord. If he was going for the role of drunk best man, he’s nailed it.”

Andi knew the wedding was going to be big when the soon-to-be bride told her how many guests they were expecting at the joint bridal shower. It was a preemptive solution to not being able to invite all their “closest friends and family” to the actual wedding since it was overseas. Nonetheless, Andi was happy to be apart of the bridal party and help to appease any issues that popped up during the celebration. She had taken a seat to give her feet a break from standing around in her heels when she noticed Emerson. “Oh hey Em,” she laughed at her comment, giving the woman a hug. Todd, the best man was something else. “He’s a lost cause there’s no reeling him back at this point, unfortunately.” One thing she was certain of not doing this wedding was babysitting any of the groomsman and their inability to control their alcohol.
