So Long and Goodnight || Self-Para

Tonight was the night Andre was leaving for New York. He didn’t hate Greensville, but he didn’t have much of a reason to say either. His mother, the reason he came to the small town in the first place, had been gone for nearly a year and wasn’t coming back to life anytime soon. Jane, his mother’s best friend and the person whose house he was living in, was planning on selling her home in Greensville to move closer to her son Bryan in Seattle. Luca, his half-sibling, was attending college in Buffalo and barely came back to visit. The friends he’d made along the years had mostly moved away, and the ones who remained weren’t people he spoke to too often. Lark, the love of his life, his girlfriend of nearly three and a half years, was the reason he hadn’t left sooner. But she wanted him to live his dreams, and the best place to do that was in New York.

After meeting with Mark O’Connor’s boss-- former boss, he wasn’t fully sure where Mark stood in terms of his job at the label-- he was able to get signed and book recording time. Rather than using the studio in Raleigh, he chose his recording location to be the studio in Manhattan. He figured getting away could be good for him. If all went well, he’d have an album completed by the end of the year, and then he’d go on his first legitimate tour. As for living arrangements, he had his cousin, Andrea. Conveniently, as he was looking for someone to stay with, she was looking for a new roommate in her Astoria apartment. It worked out like a dream, honestly. As the plane took off into the night, Andre said his final goodbyes to North Carolina. It wouldn’t be for forever though, he knew he’d come back to visit Lark at some point. It wasn’t going to be easy, but they would make long distance work, he knew they would. Maybe when he was older, he’d end up settling in Greensville for good, but for now, he had to try something new, something that could change his life for the better.

Kaila Luca Josée Torres - 21 - College Student

Luca has always looked up to their older half-brother. Andre taught Luca everything he knew about music growing up, and it has been something they’ve always been able to bond over. In the years that their mother was sick, there was tension between the siblings, mostly due to Luca’s difficulty with processing grief. Recently, Luca came out to Andre as transmasculine non-binary and stated the intention of starting testosterone, but they have yet to begin the physical transition process. Andre still hasn’t fully adjusted to their new name and pronouns, but he’s trying his best to be an affirming older brother. They currently study toxicology at University at Buffalo in New York on a full academic scholarship.
