Rehab orphan raccoonsâ¤ď¸ Out for some exercise while theyâre cage is being cleaned!
I love how your tags have important points. That this is illegal without permits, and that youâve been rabies vaccinated.
Question, does your rehab vaccinate everyone (four legged) for distemper? Distemper has been has been an issue here, so every orphan that comes through gets a distemper shot to increase their chances (and hopefully reduce spread in the wild.)
Thanks! I know they're cute but they get big and aggressive so I need to warn people that they are not pets, at this stage in their life they're still being bottle fed and offered a weaning plate so they see me as mom but once they're eating completely on their own they start to get "tough love" and I make them wary of people. A friendly raccoon is a dead raccoon.
To answer your question I deworm them, and vaccinate them for distemper and rabies as well!

What Iâve been up too this summer, lots and lots of wildlife rehab and two imprint European starlings Iâll be using for education! Cricket is the starling up front and Bayonette is the sleepy head in the backâ¤ď¸
some photos of my favourite feathers I have in my collection đ
all these feathers have been gathered from moulting birds. moulting is a process in which all birds go through at least once a year. moulting is where a birds old feathers fall out gradually over several months, and are replaced with new ones which then grow in
I need more!!

Throw back to last year, I love my reticulated pythonsâ¤ď¸ sadly due to state laws I have to keep them a couple states away from me which happens to be an hour away. I hope that in the future we will get to own our beloved reptiles in the same state that we live in but for now the drive isnât that badâŚ

how do you get into falconry? i saw pictures on your blog do you do it? are there like clubs or something around hahaha
Contact your state fish and wildlife and theyâll direct you to local falconers, go to a couple meets and go to a couple hunts to make sure you reaaaalllly want to do it. Itâs not just a sport or hobby itâs a whole life style change and you have to be committed. FALCONRY IS HUNTING, this is an important fact to remember itâs not pet keeping at all, you need to actually hunt with the bird and be able to dispatch quarry when your bird is successful. Once you know you want to commit to this total lifestyle change you take a test administered by the state, you take hunters education classes, you find a sponsor (someone willing to tutor you and show you the ropes for the next two years), you build your enclosures (mews), buy or make your equipment, and you trap your first bird generally being a red tailed hawk, kestrel, or Harris hawk. This all depends on what your state laws are, some will require you to have different things than different states.
Falconry is beautiful itâs the dance between predator and prey to see who will outsmart who, most people will never see this dance in their lives. Make sure you study up and read some books on falconry. âThe modern apprenticeâ website is a wonderful guide to help you and direct you a little more!
Haha, is it me or Falco is always so happy to see you? I went through your whole blog and in some videos, you seem to whistle at Falco and he just turns, sees you, and runs towards you, screaming like he hasn't seen you in days. It's so adorbs. *
Thank you! I like to believe we have an amazing bond! I've worked with him for 4-5 years now and I think he sees me as a partner and companion and relies on me so I think seeing me clicks a happy switch in his brain lol :)
As a wildlife rehabber I see all types of animals (raptors as my specialty) but I also rehab mammals, birds, and reptiles as well! I raised these 2 red squirrels last fall and the weather made it too late to release them so they were transferred to be cared by another rehabber with bigger caging for overwintering them. Finally the day has come where I got to release them! It was such a heart warming moment to see these beautiful sassy critters go back into the wild where they belong!
Swinging!
