Something told him to just turn his phone off and pretend that he'd never sent the text to begin with. He didn't know if it was the fear that she wouldn't reply or the fear that she actually would reply. It'd been a whole year since they'd even talked to eachother. What could he possibly say to her now? How could he begin to explain why he'd just disappeared from her life? But then his heart jumped up into his throat as the vibration of the phone in his hand. Yes. No... no, she wasn't supposed to say that. She wasn't supposed to even respond. He hadn't prepared himself for this.
Running his tongue over his lips, he silently debated on whether or not he should just call her. These kinds of things weren't the type to be said over the phone but he just didn't know if he was ready to face her yet. Never in his life had he ever felt like such a coward, but Harley-- that girl was different. She'd always been able to evoke feelings in him that he didn't even know were possible. But... now what? "Fuck."
[ sms: baby girl ] meet me outside our coffee shop. thirty minutes sound good?

It'd only been an hour since he'd landed and he was still sitting on the same bench. Her name was bright on the screen and her messages seemed to burn a permanent imprint on his eyes. What could he have said? It just seemed easier not to respond when he thought they would never see eachother again. But here he was.
His fingers seemed to have a mind of their own as they typed the short text. Can I see you? Instantly, knots formed in his stomach and he thought he might vomit any moment. He missed her too-- more than words could even express. "Lord, please don't let me be making a mistake here." But they were going to run into eachother eventually and he had a lot of explaining to do.

He fiddled around with the earbud, trying different angles to get it to stay put in his ear. Frustration was evident on his features as he devoted the utmost concentration to the act (and that meaning barely any at all). "How the fuck do you get these damn things to stay in?" came an agitated growl as he looked over at his companion, brows knit and forehead creased.
