It Happened One Night, 1934.
beloved, wake up. tell me, what is the origin of this âalpha/beta/omegaâ terminology? Lestat has called me a âbeta cuckâ and himself âLouisâ perfect alpha.â i know what all these words mean separately but together they elude me. i have discovered a phenomenon within the iPad called âthe omegaverseâ but feel this cannot possibly be what he was referring to. read this
watching mstiefâs writing the raven cycle webinar and I just want everyone to know that she just explicitly stated that adam was supposed to go full villain in her first draft but changed her mind bc âthe worst thing that could happen is they stop being friendsâ
SHE ALSO JUST SAID GANSEY WAS LOOSELY INSPIRED BY TINTIN?
omg she was talking about writing unpleasant characters and gave this âpet possum paradoxâ metaphor about how if you see a dead possum on the road you likely wonât care about it as much as if the possum had a collar on it bc that would mean it was someoneâs pet and the only difference that makes it sad is that someone loved it. And she essentially said that the only reason ronan worked as a character and didnât make readers instantly hate him is bc he was essentially ganseyâs pet possum. yeah Iâm fine
[maggie talking about the dream thieves, specifically referring to gansey and adam]: âthis is the one where the boys are bitchesâ
other highlights:
Adam and Noah were originally going to be the same person
Ganseyâs backstory and reason for seeking Glendower was originally going to be bc of daddy issues (??)
Her early vision of BLLB was originally going to feature Macha, a Celtic war goddess
Ooh she said that what makes Blue and Gansey an appealing romance to her was that they are both people who have to be hyper-responsible and act super grown up most of the time, but when theyâre together theyâre allowed to be young. Whereas Ronan and Adam were the opposite, and their appeal is that they are both constantly feeling like no one takes them seriously enough (Adam being secondary to Gansey, Ronan being Ronan) so when theyâre together they can feel like theyâre âadultâ and capable
Also said that Henryâs purpose in the story is to prove that Gansey is capable of living after anxiety, and that Henry must exist in order for Gansey to believe he can live after Glendower
K yâall are gonna hate this one. The camaro wheel? You know the mysterious camaro wheel? She said she had put that there as breadcrumb for something that would have been explored later in the POSSIBLE SARCHENGSEY SPINOFF she ended up not writing.
Upon reflecting on Noahâs role in the story: the reason Noah is not remembered is bc there had to be a significant sacrifice to bring Gansey back, like Adamâs autonomy, and being remembered is the thing Noah cared about the most, but he willingly sacrificed it to save his friend. (ngl this changed my whole perspective a but on the forgetting Noah thing. Like still, ow???? But I kinda get it now)
Not really trc-specific but she sees herself as writing âwonderâ as a genre, utilizing magic for awe and beauty, as opposed to the âhorrorâ genre which utilizes magic for fear and repulsion. Just thought that was neat
Oh yeah apparently people hated Adam so much in the early days that she had people come to her house and berate her and her family begging her to kill him off??? What is wrong with people
Wanna end this on a funny note so Iâm just gonna bring up Gansey as Tintin with daddy issues again
love the new ghibli protagonist. what a little freak (affectionate). he has NO chill. a kid shoves him at the start of the movie and he instantly tackles them and proceeds to fight his entire class. he bashed his head in with a rock and tried to walk it off. the bird in his garden was doing funny things and he instantly starts making plans to murder it. was ready to beat the shit out of that pelican. i just know if he was allowed to curse he would have called that heron a bitch ass mother fucker. mahito was NOT fucking around.
in retrospect it's so funny that trc was set during like 2011-13. Were aglionby boys doing swag aesthetic selfies while Adam was sacrificing himself to a sentient forest
how the hell do people work full time AND work out. and also eat. i feel like a dvd player

âOppenheimer should at least represent Japanese voicesâ actual Japanese filmmakers have made dozens of movies about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, including at least two anime films off the top of my head, that you wouldâve bothered to watch if you actually cared about this beyond winning discourse points. Not to mention all the Japanese science fiction that is obviously inspired in some way by trauma over the bombing, including the entire genre of kaiju films. Do you really think there's anything those works haven't said that Christopher Nolan would add? Or maybe, in fact, the lack of focus there in Oppenheimer is The Point, since the real-life Manhattan Project (which the film is critical of) certainly wasn't consulting "Japanese voices"? (Like, perhaps that is part of the film's criticism of it???) Anyway, In This Corner of the World is a great film about the life of a young woman from Hiroshima in the waning days of WWII that you can currently rent for $1.99 on Amazon Prime. It's animated by the same studio that did Yuri!!! on Ice and it's based on a 3-volume manga that is also terrific and available both physically and digitally in English. If you actually want fiction that depicts "Japanese voices on the atomic bomb" I would start there. If you actually care about diverse perspectives in media you'd also care about the people making that media and look to what actual Japanese people are saying about this rather than expecting American and British creators to spoon-feed it to you.
my liege you cannot trust this buffoon. he doesnât even begin every other sentence with âmy liege.â heâll never whisper in your ear the way i do it, my liege. sire. your fuckableness
if you close the door, the night could last forever
i get so mad when people dont like the things i like and are vocal about it im like well youre stupid for one and theres no need to go embarrass yourself about it just move on. and i also get mad when people like the things i dislike im like cant you not See, its not had to See, stop being stupid for a second ok. and when people are with me in the space enjoying the things i enjoy i want to push them over the edge to their death because thats my thing to enjoy, you'll never get it like i do.never.
Happy birthday adam parrish the only character ever i'm gonna sacrifice my hands and eyes to a magical forest to celebrate
i would try human meat if there were no repercussions and i would fuck my clone and i would do any of the weird philosophical shit you guys put in your polls. im a real go-getter in this sense
