THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1964 - 1966)   â 1.9 · New Neighbors Meet The Addams Family
when we try to befriend cats we mimic their meows and get down on the ground to their level and try to gently coax them to interact with us right
that horrifying entity mimicking human noises at us maybe just thinks weâre cool and wants to pet us?
had to draw it
lots of green people discourse today. don't get them confused

Excellent boundary setting. It's not easy.
Thank you. Hopefully, this models behavior for someone who needs it. :)
When my generation was growing up, being good at school was pretty much the worst thing that you could be (particularly if you didnât have the social skills to hide it). Kids didnât like you, and neither did many adults. My fifth grade math teacher would make her classes play a game where one kid stands and walks desk to desk competing with every seated student over math problems until they lose. And she seemed to do it to get other kids mad at the smart kids; she would egg the group on in their anger, laugh at their growing rage. In the 1970s and â80s, moments like this were not unusual. All those hilarious caricatures of mean teachers and helpless parents that John Hughes put in his movies were both accurate and a lot less funny than he made them seem. The typical geek faced harassment from a single school full of people. But for Wil Wheaton the whole world became his schoolyard. Today the term for being humiliated on social media is âbeing dragged.â That was exactly what âStar Trekâ fandom did online and off to Wesley Crusher and Wil Wheaton every week. We dragged him, as hard as we could. A scene in which the beloved Star Trek captain Jean-Luc Picard told him, âShut up, Wesley,â became an early online meme, and everywhere Wheaton went, he was mocked and hatedâand I suspect most especially by those of us who could most identify with him. He was just too much of a mirror of our own experiences.
The new âStar Trekâ has moments better than my best homilies (via wilwheaton)
Conservatives like to point at late term abortions as a morally unjustifiable, but the truth is that they are usually performed on women who were trying to carry to term. These women don't "want" abortions, they NEED abortions.
My grandmother nearly died having a miscarriage. My teenaged mother had to take her to the hospital when she refused to take herself because she was in denial. She was literally bleeding out. She had a late stage abortion and it saved her life. The doctors told her that if she tried to carry another baby to term it would kill her. Not "could" kill her, it WOULD kill her.
I only got to know my grandmother because she had access to a safe and legal abortion. She never spoke about her loss. Ever. I know she remained sexually active, which means if she had gotten pregnant again she would have gotten another abortion. I dont know if that was ever neccessary as, again, she never spoke about any of this.
I only know the story because my mother shared it with me. My mother was the first woman in her family that didn't miscarry at least once.
So yes, I support access to all abortions, even if not especially late term abortions.
the one thing thing funnier than this caption is that the only reason they stopped doing it was that the ferret shit in the tube
That photo makes Feliciaâs work seem much more recent than it is. Hereâs a picture of the worldâs smallest particle physicist herself.
They didnât stop because she shit in the tube - she had a diaper on because they knew poop would obstruct the particles as well. She eventually stopped running through the tubes because they became too long for her. At that point she was retired and became a pet!
I love her

SCIENCE TUMBLR, EXPLAIN!
Hello that is a touch lamp and basically it uses something called capacitors to turn off and on. Capacitors in touch lamps store charges and when those charges are altered, they activate an oscillator responsible for turning the lamp off and on.
Humans have what is called body capacitance; we can store tiny electrical charges in our bodies and use them to activate touch sensors (which is why your phone's touch screen works, too, and why it won't work if you're wearing cloth gloves that aren't conductive), for example, altering the charge in a capacitor like the one in this lamp.
The cat doesn't have enough body capacitance to set this lamp off, but it IS conductive enough to relay a human's charge. So when the human makes contact with the conductive bare skin of the cat's nose, their charge travels through the cat to the lamp through their toe bean, activating the lamp. Fur is not conductive, so it won't do it when the human just pets the cat.
This explanation was all very sensible until âtoe beanâ and I am giggling with pure delight XD
disability advocacy went wrong when it became about inspiration porn and âdifferently abledâ and savants. its incredible that that guy with no legs did a triathlon but your sister with no legs will not and she doesnt need prosthetics or five hour training days to deserve respect and compassion and accommodations. its incredible that that autistic guy can look at a city from a helicopter for an hour and then draw the entire detailed skyline from memory when he lands but your autistic friend cannot and they dont need to have a special Autism Power to deserve respect and compassion and accommodations.Â
activism framed around âwe are just as CAPABLEâ means that when people genuinely are less capable they are left behind. activism framed around âwe are just as WORTHYâ is fundamental to radical compassion.

I feel like we always see parents who are 100% super supportive allies, or parents who are horrible and cruel.  At least in media or in the most popular stories.  But I feel like that ignores just how many people have parents where you just have no idea?  And even if you think theyâll accept you on a surface level, you donât know if they have a breaking point.  Especially if you need to go on hrt, or request they change the way they think about and refer to you.  Sure theyâre liberal and all, or centrists, or âtolerantâ, but how far does that stretch?
I think most closeted LGBT+ kids live like this, wading around in the grey area. Â Iâd like it of more of us knew that was normal, Iâd like if we talked about it more.
sometimes...reddit is ok...
archive link to post (link). post text as follows:
This is so fucking stupid. I can't believe I'm doing this. I never use reddit, sorry if I do something wrong.
I (a 19 yr old girl) was watching Star Trek TOS a few weeks ago with 3 other friends (one 18 yr old guy, the other two don't matter) Â over a video call. We get to the episode Amok Time, and long story short there's a scene where Captain Kirk's shirt gets ripped right across his pecs (it kinda looks like one of those boob window sweaters?? idk how to describe it I'm sorry)
So when Kirk's shirt gets ripped I say some dumb shit about him having fatty milkers and the two other friends laugh and we just start making tit jokes and making up increasingly stupid words for "boobs".
We watch a few more episodes then call it a day and disconnect the call, and a few minutes after disconnecting the call my guy friend (we'll call him Tom) messages me and brings up the Kirk boob jokes in passing, like he was trying to make it seem casual but I started feeling like he was bothered by it and wasn't telling me, you know? So I asked him if the tit jokes bothered him and he got really defensive and didn't really answer the question.
Later one of the other two people that was there (we'll call him Mark) messages me and tells me that my guy friend was mad at me. Apparently Tom had ranted to Mark about how William Shatner (the guy who played Kirk) was a huge inspiration to him as a kid and he thought I was being extremely disrespectful referring to his character (not even HIM, his CHARACTER) in such a derogatory way (as if William Shatner is gonna give a fuck that some teenage girl in central America said his old character had fat hooters, but I digress)
So Mark said I should apologize, I said it was stupid for Tom to have a temper tantrum over such a meaningless situation, Mark said that was mean, so I caved and apologized (and no it wasn't a backhanded apology, I messaged Tom and said I didn't mean to be disrespectful towards someone he looks up to and that I'd refrain from doing it in the future)
But then Tom continued to give me the silent treatment and fucking brings it up whenever we talk Star Trek and I ended up snapping at him that he was being childish for holding onto this for so long, and that I'd already apologized and I didn't see why this continued to be such an issue.
Tom is now giving an even harsher silent treatment. Mark sides with Tom for some reason, and the other friend just thinks this whole thing is funny. I don't think I'm the asshole, I'll admit it, but some outsider perspective would be nice. AITA?
the fact u didnt add some of the comments in the archives is so upsetting bc it means ppl r missing GEMS like these:
