Buffy S2E11 ("Ted") is wild because it's a deeply unsettling meditation on how misogyny and intrafamilial power dynamics enable violence and abuse and how society will do absolutely anything other than listen to a "troubled" teenager about the violence they are being threatened with/subjected to. but then it makes sure to wrap up with a nauseating scene that's like "see everything is fine and Buffy has a good relationship with her mom after all and they're sitting on the porch swing in the sunshine even though her mom believed this man over her own daughter :)"

I don't think Tolkien is a good fantasy writer because he scored the highest at some objective Best Fantasy Book Test that every fantasy writer has to take, I think he's a good fantasy writer because he created a world based on things that he was interested in. I feel like a lot of fantasy writers think that they need to create a whole language for their world because Tolkien did and obviously his books are the best so they have to emulate him, but Tolkien did that because he was a linguistics nerd. I think the lesson to be learned from him is not that you have to include elves and deep history and new languages, but that you have to write endlessly about the things you are a huge nerd about and use those things to create your fantasy world

Every time I hear a showrunner say some shit about how the reason he doesn't want to write his male slashbait duo into a romantic relationship is because "their bond is so powerful and profound that it transcends sex or romance" I want to ask him, "Does your wife know your bond with her is too weak and shallow to transcend sex and romance?
