“The commune will be located far East, farther than any of us have been before. They also appear to be neutral towards outsiders, but that isn’t to say they won’t fight if a threat appears. That was what I heard most recently. Whether she is there or not, you aren't to come back until you get what I have asked for. If all fails, you will know when to return.”
“Yes, boss,” Cthoni understood, waiting patiently until all orders were given.
“The girl you are looking for may or may not be an easy target. It all depends if she's present in the commune. Either way, it is noted she lives in a circular tent with a strong smell of chemicals,” Zodyl paused with his instructions, seeing a small glare of metal in the dark.
He ignored it, already sensing what was about to happen so he held up a bag of coins and passed it to Cthoni. “We need vials of her toxins, the more the better. The more potent, the better. Bribe her if you have to-”
“You talking about toxins, boss?” Jabber lazily stepped into the conversation. The looks he received were more than unamused. “I'm the best guy in town for this mission.”
“Jabber,” Zodyl acknowledged, “This is not your mission. Don't ask it to be yours.”
“I'm not asking.” Jabber grinned. “I'm offering an explanation as to why it should be mine.” He pointed at Cthoni, “What I’m talking about is if you send her, she'll come back with exactly what you asked for. One bag of toxins. Mission complete. Everybody's happy.”
“That's generally the objective of a mission,” Cthoni replied.
“Yeah, but where's the ambition?”
“There doesn't need to be ambition,” Zodyl intercepted, “It just needs to be done.”
“Boss, listen to this.” Jabber threw his hands up dramatically. “You're sending the least curious person alive to meet some mystery poison girl in the middle of nowhere.”
“She is reliable,” Zodyl said.
“Exactly. Reliable.” Jabber nodded enthusiastically. “Reliable enough to bring back the toxins. Me?” He jabbed a thumb into his chest. “I'd bring back toxins, recipes, samples, notes, trade secrets, weird rumors, and probably a new disease.”
“You are not helping your case.”
“I think I'm helping it perfectly.”
Cthoni crossed her arms, finding fault in Jabber’s plea, “That’s if you're assuming she'll cooperate with you.”
“Everybody cooperates with me eventually,” Jabber shrugged with an innocent smile on his face. The only reason why many cooperated with him was for the sole reason that he poisoned them, but that’s the least of their worries.
Zodyl merely sighed, not budging to switch the mission to Jabber; however, Jabber immediately seized the opening.
“Boss, this girl works with chemicals. Poisons. Toxins. That's my language.” His grin sharpened. “You want somebody who can recognize what she's carrying. Somebody who knows what questions to ask. Somebody who can tell the difference between something dangerous and something priceless.”
He leaned forward, pointing toward the blue-haired woman, “You send Cthoni, you get what you asked for. You send me, and you get what you didn't know to ask for.”
Cthoni looked unimpressed, irritated by the fact that Jabber still wasn’t letting up with his plea. All while Jabber looked incredibly pleased with himself.
Zodyl stared at him for several long seconds, mentally going through all the things that could go right or wrong. “…And what makes you think she won't poison you?”
Jabber's grin relaxed, “Boss. I'd take that as a compliment.”
Zodyl stared at Jabber in silence all while he stared back with the excited energy of a dog waiting for a treat. The silence stretched for what seemed to be a long time, but Cthoni already knew that look on Zodyl's unexpressive face. It was the look Zodyl wore whenever he was weighing the benefits of a decision against the headache it would inevitably cause him.
Unfortunately for everyone involved, Jabber occasionally won those calculations.
"...Fine. The mission is yours," Zodyl confirmed.
The grin that split across Jabber's face was immediate and terrifying, "Seriously?"
"Don't make me reconsider."
"Boss, you're making the smartest decision you've made all week!" Jabber was already moving before the sentence finished. "I’ll do it and I’ll do it real good!" he called over his shoulder before he was gone into the darkness of the hideout to prepare for the mission.
Cthoni stood motionless for a moment, visibly annoyed. "He manipulated that entire conversation. And you rewarded him."
She let out a slow breath through her nose. Without another word, she turned to leave.
"Cthoni." She stopped at hearing her name being called once more. Zodyl's gaze lifted from the static TV in front of him just for a moment. "One more thing. Transport him there and then come back."
Cthoni raised an eyebrow at the order. "What about Jabber?"
"He can find his own way home."
For the first time since the conversation began, the irritation left her face.
Zodyl returned his attention to the screen in front of him, already going back to plotting theories in his mind. After a moment, Cthoni headed for the exit. Neither of them voiced the obvious truth. Getting Jabber to the commune was important. Getting Jabber back from the commune was Jabber's problem.
Cthoni dropped Jabber off within a reasonable distance from the camp and said nothing before she fell back into her manhole, the cover closing with a whorl effect before it disappeared. Quite frankly, Jabber couldn’t care less about being left there alone. All he cared about was the possible experimentation with these toxins, the retrieval of them, and of course, perhaps a little action in the mix.
A little action of what? Guess that will be a surprise for him.
The walk was rather short and hearing the noises made from the group didn't worry him that much. He heard what Zodyl said about their attitude toward outsiders or randoms. They were indifferent.
But Jabber was different. He wasn't some peace loving traveler who had things to exchange. He's a Raider. He hurt people if necessary. There was nothing kind about him.
Just before he stepped foot into the grounds, he discarded the cloak that was given to him behind a rock, the dark cloth blending in with the beginning of the night. To him, there was no point in concealing his identity if he was going to meet face to face with this person. If anything, the cloak made him look even more suspicious than he already did.
Once he stepped foot into the camp, he took note of the atmosphere. People were outside with each other, eating, talking, or simply enjoying each other's presence. What made him raise a brow were the individuals who stumbled around camp with a foggy look on their face.
They mumbled things under their breath and constantly found themselves into a fit of laughter. There were even those who laid on the floor, staring into nothingness as they found the autonomy in their bodies once more.
Jabber knew this wasn't any normal human behavior. He'd seen it before on his victims who were too high and deranged to comprehend a simple thought, and it made him curious as to what he might encounter.
Still, as he walked, he wasn't greeted with fright. He got some stares here and there, some recognizing what he was affiliated with based on his clothes, yet still made no move to alarm whoever was in charge of his group. Others paid no mind, sparing a glance before continuing on with their business.
As another dazed-looking individual wandered past, Jabber reached out and caught him by the wrist. The man stopped immediately. For a moment, he simply stared at Jabber with glassy eyes and an unfocused smile.
"You know where I can find a girl who works with toxins?" Jabber asked.
The stranger blinked once as he processed the question and a grin slowly stretched across his face. "Oh yeah,” His answer came with a laugh that seemed far too amused for such a simple question. "Oh yeah, I know her."
Jabber's interest sharpened. The man leaned closer as if sharing a secret. "She'll mess you up good." Another burst of laughter escaped him then he pointed toward the far edge of the commune. "There."
Jabber's eyes followed the direction. Near the outskirts sat a large circular tent separated from most of the others. Unlike the communal atmosphere surrounding the camp, nobody lingered near it. There was an empty stretch of ground around the structure as though people had collectively agreed to keep their distance.
Even from where he stood, Jabber could see various objects hanging from ropes outside. Glass bottles. Bundles of dried plants. Wind chimes made from bones. The sight alone would've been enough to draw his attention. Slowly, the smell hit him. A mixture of herbs, smoke, chemicals, and something sharp enough to sting his nose.
Jabber's grin widened immediately, "Oh, now we're talking."
The stranger laughed again, "Good luck."
Jabber released him and continued toward the tent. As he approached, he noticed something else. Several people sat outside the perimeter. They weren't guards, so he assumed they were patients. One woman was giggling uncontrollably while staring at her own hands. Another man sat with his eyes closed, humming to himself. A third looked perfectly normal until he suddenly burst into tears before immediately apologizing to nobody in particular.
Jabber was fascinated. Whoever lived here wasn't simply making toxins. She was experimenting on people. Or they were volunteering. Either way, he approved.
By the time he reached the entrance, his excitement had nearly become impossible to contain. The tent flap was partially open. Inside, faint light flickered against the fabric walls. Glass clinked together. Something bubbled and above all, someone was moving around.
Jabber didn't bother announcing himself with a knock or didn't bother considering whether entering uninvited was a bad idea. He pulled the flap aside and stepped in.
"Hey!" he called cheerfully, "I heard you're the local expert on making people have a really terrible time."
The bubbling abruptly stopped. For a brief second, the tent became completely silent. Jabber's grin only grew wider. "Oh good,” He spread his arms. "You're exactly who I'm looking for."
Very slowly did you turn your head at the sound of his voice. “Who are you and why are you here?” You questioned.
Words were caught in Jabber’s mouth because truthfully, he hadn't been expecting you. What he expected was a crazy freak of a scientist, with hair running white and burn marks from failed experiments. The reports hadn't mentioned that the mysterious toxin-maker was attractive.
His brain promptly derailed, "...Huh." Jabber blinked once before remembering he was supposed to be speaking. "Oh right. Name's Jabber," His grin returned immediately, "I'm here because my boss wants toxins. Lots of toxins. You know, I had this whole speech planned," He pointed at you, "And then you ruined it."
"Yeah," he nodded matter-of-factly. "I was gonna walk in here all professional-like. Ask intelligent questions. Gather information. Then you turned around." The look you gave him suggested he was already testing your patience. Fortunately for him, Jabber seemed completely immune to warning signs. "So," He clapped his hands together, "Toxins."
His eyes immediately wandered toward a nearby shelf and he gained another interest. He saw rows of glass bottles lined the walls, colored liquids, powders, dried plants, and things floating in jars. With this new fascination, Jabber walked right past you.
"Oh, this is beautiful." The original mission vanished from his mind for several seconds. He picked up a bottle before you could stop him. "What does this do?"
"What does it do?" He repeated.
Jabber looked delighted, "That didn't answer the question."
You took the bottle from his hands, irritated by how handsy he was. "It causes temporary paralysis," you scowled at him.
His eyes lit up. Temporary paralysis sounded amazing. He already started imagining what he could do with that in a fight. "That's awesome."
"It's not awesome,” You placed the bottle back onto the shelf.
Jabber immediately moved toward another one, "What about this?"
His grin widened, bordering on the edge of a rush of excitement. He pointed to small bottle of grey powder. "And that?"
"And that?" He pointed to a jar of liquid with a tint of yellow.
You narrowed your eyes, not enjoying the bombardment of questions about the things you created. Crossing your arms, you asked, "Are you here to buy toxins or admire them?"
He wasn't even embarrassed. Jabber wandered deeper into the tent. Every few seconds something else caught his attention. A bubbling flask. A strange plant hanging from the ceiling. A collection of labeled powders. At one point he crouched beside a table and stared at a vial as if it contained the secrets of the universe.
"This place is incredible,” he tapped the glass, watching the liquid sway from side to side from his movement. "Those people outside looked pretty happy."
You gave him an unimpressed look over while Jabber stared back just gave a mere shrug with a smile. The realization slowly appeared on his face. His head tilted, "Wait."
You immediately disliked that tone.
"Are those drugs?" Your silence was a big enough answer. His grin became almost predatory, "Oh, that's why everybody looked like that."
You sighed, explaining why he had seen some in such a wicked state outside, "Some are medicinal. Some aren't."
Jabber looked excited. His original mission was now hanging by a thread. He stepped closer to your workbench, trying to read all the faded labels on containers, "What kind? Hallucinogens? Relaxants?"
You hesitated with that answer. The look on his face made it seem like he struck a hold mine. "Oh, you've got euphoria."
You folded your arms, "And what exactly is your interest in that?"
Jabber looked offended by the question. "My interest?" He gestured wildly around the tent. "You have an entire laboratory full of chemicals that make people see things, forget things, feel things, stop feeling things, or temporarily become furniture. Why wouldn't I be interested?"
You found yourself studying him more carefully. Most people approached toxins with caution. Jabber approached them with enthusiasm, a dangerous enthusiasm, which was notably the worst kind.
"So you're a user?" you asked.
"That's not the same thing,” you shook your head.
You couldn't argue with that logic because there wasn't any. Jabber leaned against the table. You already knew you weren't going to like whatever came next.
“So,” He pointed toward one of the unlabeled bottles. "Which one gets me the highest?"
Your stare was long, unamused and extremely judgmental. Jabber didn't seem to care and waited patiently for his answer.
"Let me get this straight,” you started first, crossing your arms, “...You came all this way for toxins. And now you want drugs? And your priorities changed in less than five minutes?”
Jabber considered that for a moment, one hand coming up to his chin as though the accusation deserved genuine thought. "To be fair," he said finally, "your priorities would change too if you were this charming."
The confidence with which he delivered the statement suggested he believed it completely. Unfortunately, he probably did. You rubbed at your temple.
Across from you, Jabber had already lost interest in the conversation. His attention had drifted elsewhere, latching onto every bottle, tool, and strange piece of equipment scattered throughout the tent.
The interior wasn't large, but it felt endless.
Shelves curved around the canvas walls in a slow spiral, winding inward toward the center. Drying herbs hung from cords overhead. Glass containers caught the lantern light, turning the entire space into a maze of colored reflections. Some held powders. Some held liquids. Some contained things that were probably better left unidentified.
Jabber wandered deeper without permission. Not that he seemed like the kind of person who waited for permission either way. His fingers hovered over everything.
"What's this? And this? And this?"
You ignored his questions at this point, but paused once he waited for an answer. You glanced over and saw he pointed to a jar with suspiciously green liquid and some sort of matter inside. "A very expensive mistake."
"You're funny!” Jabber laughed and continued walking.
The further he followed the curve of the tent, the more obvious the layout became. Everything spiraled inward. Workbenches became smaller. Shelving gave way to storage crates. The smell of chemicals softened beneath traces of dried flowers and old blankets.
Finally, he reached the center. Unlike the rest of the tent, there was almost nothing there. Just a woven mat spread across the floor, a pile of blankets and a couple of neat pillows. There was also a lantern with a few books stacked haphazardly beside them.
Jabber stared before he slowly turned his head toward you.
"...Is this where you sleep?"
“Why would it matter to you where I sleep or don't?”
He crouched beside the mat, shamelessly inspecting every inch of your personal space as though he were conducting an official investigation.
"You actually sleep here? You just curl up right there? Do you wrap yourself in all of these? Do you make little toxin goblin noises while you sleep?"
You closed your eyes for a moment of peace. For a brief, beautiful moment, you imagined poisoning him. Not lethally, of course. Not yet, at least. When you opened your eyes again, Jabber had somehow moved even closer to the sleeping area.
You thought about his question. In many aspects, yes, you did have guests. But not in that aspect where you wanted someone on a lonely night. In fact, you were never the one who invited people. Instead, they came to you in hopes that your skills will help them. You didn’t give him an answer.
Jabber waited a beat when you failed to answer, "...I'll take that as a maybe." He shrugged, abandoning the question as quickly as he'd asked it.
His attention drifted back toward you instead. Only now, without another shelf of chemicals demanding his attention, did he properly look at you. You didn't resemble the image he'd built in his head at all. Your clothes were simple. Worn from use rather than neglect. There wasn't a single unnecessary decoration on them. Even the center of your tent reflected the same philosophy. A woven mat. Blankets. A lantern. Books.
All of it was minimal, yet somehow none of it made you look plain.
"...You’re weird," Jabber muttered to himself. “I figured somebody living in a chemistry cave would look..." He waved a hand around vaguely. "...more exploded."
"Yeah. Ya know, like burn marks. Missing eyebrows. Crazy hair. Instead you're just..." His words trailed off while he looked you over one last time. "...fairly pretty." The compliment came so casually that it almost sounded accidental. Jabber tilted his head in thought the more he looked over you. "You'd look good in Raider clothes."
You weren't entirely sure how to respond to that. "...I don't think that's a compliment."
"Take it how you want." He shrugged once, apparently satisfied with his own logic before his attention wandered yet again. "Actually..." His eyes narrowed, "...Are you even a Giver?"
You frowned at his accusation, "What?"
"A Vital Instrument." His gaze swept over you again with surprising focus. "You've got one, right?" His eyes stopped. There attached against your hip rested a strange object that hadn't left your side since he'd entered the tent. It resembled an old brass kaleidoscope. The moment his eyes settled on it, your hand instinctively covered it.
Jabber noticed immediately. "...Oho,” He practically licked his lips and rubbed his hands together, "That's definitely it. So what does it do?"
For several seconds you simply watched him. He'd already touched half your laboratory without permission. The last thing you wanted was his hands anywhere near your Vital Instrument.
"It isn't something for you to handle."
"...Well, yes. That’s the point of a vital instrument, right?"
"Right right.” He waved a hand, “So what does it do?"
You hesitated before deciding a vague explanation couldn't hurt. "If someone looks at the lens, their senses begin to distort. Their vision fractures. Colors multiply. Patterns repeat endlessly. It's basically looking through a kaleidoscope. They become delirious only when it’s activated."
His eyes immediately lit with recognition, a recent sight replaying in his mind. "The people outside looked completely gone." He laughed to himself as he connected the dots, "That was you!"
You gave a small nod, "They asked for it. It's my responsibility here." Your gaze drifted toward the entrance of the tent. "Some come because they're in pain. Some because they need medicine. And some..." you sighed quietly. "...simply wish to escape themselves for a while."
Jabber looked toward the tent flap. He remembered the laughter outside. The glassy eyes. The people staring into nothing. Suddenly the entire commune made sense. Nobody here was forcing anyone. People stayed because they wanted to. And at the center of it all, was you. Between your powders, your plants, your concoctions, and your Vital Instrument, you were the one capable of giving them exactly what they came for.
"...That's amazing. Your entire job is making people lose their minds."
"I wouldn't phrase it like that,” you murmured.
"I would." He looked genuinely impressed. "So..." His hands clapped together. "Can I try some?"
You back tracked at his question. Just seconds ago he was making fun of your sleeping space. Now, he wanted to ingest your drugs? "...What?"
"Some powders. Maybe one liquid." He pointed to the different things in front of him, “Ooh, definitely whatever's bubbling over there." His eyes landed on another shelf. “And that. And—"
"No." The answer came instantly.
Jabber looked offended, "You didn't even think about it."
"I don't need to because I don't know how much of anything your body could safely tolerate."
"No, it won't." You stepped between him and the shelves before he decided to help himself. "None of these are recreational in the way you seem to think they are. They're carefully measured. The wrong dose could stop your breathing. Or your heart. Or poison you before it possibly can be reversed."
Jabber's look of excitement never faded. "...Yeah?"
Your expression flattened, "...That doesn't concern you?"
"Not really. I've got a pretty good track record for this stuff."
You folded your arms, "...Meaning?"
Jabber scratched the back of his neck as though what he was about to admit wasn't unusual in the slightest. "I test my poisons on myself. It's all part of my power. If I make a new toxin, I inject it. Gotta know what it feels like!"
You searched his face for any hint that he was joking. There wasn't one.
"If I know exactly how it affects me..." he continued cheerfully, "then I know exactly how it'll affect everybody else."
Of all the people who handled toxins, there bound to be a reckless and irresponsible individual. And there was whatever was standing in front of you smiling like he'd just explained his favorite hobby. For the first time since he'd barged into your tent, you found yourself completely speechless.
Jabber took your silence as encouragement. "So..." He pointed excitedly toward another bottle, "...Can I try that one now?"
You considered it. The moment he'd walked into your tent. The endless questions. His fascination with every bottle he could find. The way he'd wandered through your workspace as though he'd been invited. Even his explanation, that he willingly injected his own toxins simply to understand them better.
It was reckless and idiotic. Most importantly, dangerously irresponsible. It was also the most honest thing he'd said since arriving. For the briefest moment, you almost entertained the idea.
Jabber sighed dramatically.
"I'll pack what you came here for."
You turned away before he could protest again, moving toward one of the workbenches lining the wall. Empty glass vials rested inside a wooden box beneath the counter, and you reached for them without another word.
Behind you, the tent fell quiet. Way too quiet. You should have known that meant trouble. A pair of hands planted themselves on either side of the workbench with a dull thunk. Your breath paused temporarily.
Jabber had somehow crossed the distance without making a sound. His arms boxed you in, resting against the table instead of touching you, while his chest hovered close enough behind you that you could feel his body heat.
"You move fast," you said flatly.
"You've also been told 'no.'"
"I heard it." His smirk was audible. "I just didn't like it."
You exhaled through your nose. "...Move." You turned your head enough to glare at him over your shoulder. Instead of looking embarrassed, he looked fascinated.
"So..." His eyes drifted across the shelves again. "You've got antidotes. The reversal toxin. I see it.” He nodded toward several carefully labeled bottles. "The one that cancels out everything else."
Your expression betrayed you for the briefest second.
Jabber laughed, "I knew it! You'd have to be crazy to make all of this without an emergency cure."
"It's not for people being careless."
"No?" He tilted his head innocently, peering into your eyes as he leaned closer.
"Hm,” He hummed thoughtfully, "Same difference. That changes everything now. Before, trying your stuff sounded fun." A quiet laugh escaped him. "But knowing you've got something that can pull me back out?" His eyes gleamed with genuine excitement. "Now it sounds incredible."
He looked around the laboratory again with the same wonder someone else might reserve for a treasure vault. "Do you have any idea how jealous I am?" He gestured toward the shelves with one hand before planting it back against the desk.
"This..." His voice almost softened, "...this is a playground." His eyes bounced from bottle to bottle. “Poisons. Hallucinogens. Paralytics. Memory distortions. Euphoria." He laughed under his breath. "And you're lucky enough to work with all of it every single day."
You had never heard anyone describe your laboratory with envy. Most people found it unsettling. Some feared it. Others tolerated it because they needed your medicine. Jabber looked like he'd stumbled into paradise.
"You know what excites me?" he continued, "The fact that you don't just know what these do." His gaze settled on you. "You've experienced them. You have, haven't you? You wouldn't trust a reversal toxin unless you'd tested it."
"...Some things require firsthand knowledge,” you confessed.
"I knew it,” He actually sounded delighted. His smile became almost impossibly wide. "See?" He tilted his head. "You get it. You experiment. So do I." His eyes held yours. "The only difference...is you've got an entire kingdom to play in."
"So..." His voice dropped into something almost conspiratorial. "Let me see what all the excitement's about. I don't want your toxins. I want your high. What do you say?"
The words lingered in the air between you.
Your heartbeat quickened, not because of the request itself, but because of the look in his eyes. There wasn't a trace of fear. Only curiosity. Pure, insatiable curiosity. As though whatever experience waited for him was worth any price.
Your hands slowed over the empty glass vials. One by one, the conversation replayed itself. His fascination hadn't wavered once since entering your tent. Every bottle, every powder, every failed experiment, he'd looked at them with the same childlike wonder someone else might reserve for priceless treasures.
He wasn't chasing a thrill. He was chasing understanding. That, somehow, made him even more dangerous.
"...Just a little," you murmured.
Jabber's grin spread immediately, "I knew you'd come around."
You turned toward the shelves, carefully selecting a handful of bottles whose labels only you understood. Each one was measured, documented, and dangerous in ways no outsider could appreciate. Behind you came the unmistakable clink of glass. Your shoulders tensed.
You looked over your shoulder just in time to see him reaching for another vial, silver rings tapping lightly against the bottle as he lifted it toward the lantern. Your stomach dropped, "Put that down.”
He examined the liquid with fascination, "It looks expensive."
"It nearly killed me when I formulated it."
His eyes widened, not with fear, but delight. "...Seriously?" You crossed the room in two quick strides and took the vial from his hand before he could uncork it. He watched you replace it on the highest shelf with obvious disappointment. He frowned, "...You're no fun."
"I'm trying to keep you alive."
For a moment he simply watched you gather your equipment: a narrow tube that looks like it’s made of wood, a small ceramic cup, and a measured amount of antidote. Every movement was practiced. The complete opposite of the man standing only a few feet away.
He wandered toward the center of the tent, dropping onto the blankets as though he'd been invited there hours ago. Hands folded behind his head, he looked up at you with unconcealed excitement.
"So? Am I your most interesting patient yet?"
You couldn't answer immediately. Most people came to your tent hoping to be healed. Some came to forget. A few came seeking visions. Jabber had arrived wanting to understand every poison you had ever created, even if it meant risking himself to do it.
"...You're certainly the strangest."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
You knelt on the floor beside him as you prepared your equipment. You mixed a couple of liquids together in the ceramic cup, careful with each measurement. There was an odd smell from the liquids being mixed together, not that he complained though. He was just curious.
"If we're doing this, you follow every instruction I give you. No improvising. No touching anything," You told him as you let the liquid settle. "And if I tell you to stop, you stop."
Jabber held up both hands in mock surrender. "I can behave." You gave him a skeptical look. "I said I can. I didn't exactly say I would. Either way, I think it's going to be fascinating."
You sighed before standing back up and moved with quiet purpose.
The candles already burning throughout the tent were enough to see by, but you rearranged them anyway, carrying each one carefully before setting it beside hanging ornaments of colored glass. As the flames settled, fractured ribbons of red, blue, and amber danced across the canvas walls. The reflections shifted with every flicker, turning the laboratory into something halfway between a workshop and a dream.
Jabber watched every second of it. You reached for a bundle of dried herbs tied neatly with twine. With practiced hands, you lit the end until it smoldered, then gently waved it through the air. Thin streams of pale smoke spiraled upward before spreading through the tent.
Jabber drew in a slow breath. The scent was unlike any poison he'd encountered before. It was rather earthy and floral. It carried a subtle sweetness beneath the sharper notes, and almost immediately he felt the tension leave his shoulders.
"...Huh,” He inhaled again. "...That's nice."
"It isn't meant to intoxicate you." You continued holding the bundle of herbs, allowing the smoke to drift naturally. "It quiets the mind."
His eyes followed the lazy curls gathering near the ceiling. "So it relaxes people. You drug everyone before you start?"
"It’s not technically drugging yet." You glanced back at him. "I help them relax. There's a difference."
He chuckled, "I guess there is."
By the time you set the herbs down, the atmosphere had changed completely. The sharp medicinal scent that usually filled the laboratory had softened beneath the fragrant smoke. The shifting candlelight caught every glass bottle lining the shelves, scattering fractured colors over the floor like pieces of a living kaleidoscope.
Jabber looked around with unmistakable excitement, trying to control his jitters, "This is incredible."
"The mind resists unfamiliar sensations. The more anxious someone is..." You spoke as you picked up one of the colored ornaments, letting the candlelight refract through it. "...the harder it becomes to guide them. I make them comfortable first.”
He laughed quietly to himself, "I like the way you work." He leaned back on his hands, breathing in another slow lungful of the fragrant air. "...I can already feel the difference."
"Good." You set the ornament back in its place. "That means you're ready to listen."
For perhaps the first time since barging into your tent, Jabber fell completely silent, watching your every movement with the eager attention of someone about to witness something entirely new. You grabbed another small vial. This one had a more denser liquid with a light purple tint. You kneeled down next to him, but before you could open the small container, a hand met your waist.
Jabber’s fingers gently traced the curve of your waist, his touch warm and teasing despite its casualness. He didn’t pull you closer, not yet, but the contact was deliberate, a quiet reminder that he wasn't just some passive subject about to be dosed.
His eyes held yours as he smiled up at you, that same reckless charm dancing in his gaze. "Just making sure I'm allowed to touch you," he murmured, voice low and playful beneath the hush of drifting smoke.
The herbs had already softened him slightly, the tension gone from his shoulders, breath easier, but the awareness hadn’t dulled one bit. If anything, relaxation made him bolder.
He brushed a thumb lightly over your hipbone through your clothes before adding with mock seriousness, "Your rules say no touching anything dangerous… but they never said anything about you."
A soft laugh escaped you despite yourself. Of course, that would be where he found a loophole. Before you could scold him or shift away, not that either seemed very likely, Jabber tilted his head up toward yours slightly; A subtle invitation laced with mischief beneath all that feigned innocence on his face.
"You did want the real full experience, right?" You asked just to make sure.
Jabber's grin turned downright mischievous at your question, like a kid who'd just been given permission to raid a candy jar. "Oh absolutely," he breathed out without hesitation, his fingers tightening ever so slightly around your waist.
He lifted his other hand to gently tuck a loose strand of your hair behind your ear, calloused fingertips grazing the shell of it with deliberate slowness and feeling the coldness of his rings brush against your ear. Every movement screamed affection wrapped in playful arrogance, the kind that came naturally to someone who knew they were charming.
"Wanna get really high," he confessed in a hushed tone, eyes darkening with anticipation. "Not just chemically." A slow wink followed for emphasis before adding, "All kinds."
The implications hung thick between you beneath the shimmering candlelight and swirling herbal smoke. Jabber wasn't here just for an experimental trip, he wanted this whole thing to be sensual too. He decided that the moment he saw you.
His gaze dropped briefly to your lips then back up again before murmuring, "...You're gonna look so fucking pretty when you dose me."
There was no hiding how turned on he already was by the idea, not with how close he’d pressed against you or how eagerly his hips had shifted subtly upward when that thought crossed his mind seconds ago.
You took in a breath. Never before had you had a client so willing. The way Jabber was acting was slowly having an effect on you and the relaxing smell from the herbs didn't help. With careful motions, you threw a leg over him, successfully straddling his lap for the standard procedure.
Jabber let out a low, appreciative hum that vibrated through his chest and straight into yours. His hands immediately slid up to grip your hips properly now that he had full access to them, thumbs pressing lightly into the soft flesh there as if memorizing your shape.
"Fuck," he exhaled quietly, eyes raking over your face with open admiration.
The way the colored light from the ornaments played across your features only amplified how gorgeous you looked sitting above him like this. He instinctively rolled his pelvis upward just slightly, a tiny grind to test the friction between the both of you. At the sensation, it felt promising. A smirk tugged at one corner of his mouth when he caught how close your faces were now.
"You always ride patients like this?" Jabber teased in a gravelly voice laced with amusement and obvious arousal. "Or am I special?"
There was no real question about which answer he hoped for; it dripped from every hungry downward glance toward where you sat on his arousal, poorly hidden by the fabric of his pants. One palm crept higher along one side until warm fingers splayed against the small of your back while the other stayed firmly on the hipbone, anchoring the slow movements he created.
"I do it for everyone," you answered, opening the small cap and bringing it to his nose. "Smell. It's just another relaxant."
Jabber obediently leaned forward, nostrils flaring as he inhaled deeply from the open vial you held near his face. The new scent was richer than the herbs, thicker, with notes of lavender and something faintly metallic that made his pulse jump in anticipation.
"Mmm... damn," he murmured after breathing it in a second time, eyelids already growing heavier at just the aroma.
It wasn’t overpowering but it carried an undeniable weight behind it; designed to prepare minds for deeper chemical journeys. His grip on your hips loosened slightly as a wave of relaxation crept through him faster than before. Jabber's shoulders slumped a little more against your pillows while his jaw unclenched.
"You're really thorough," Jabber commented lazily this time between slow blinks. That cocky edge from earlier had softened significantly thanks to the calming agents swirling through his system.
"Is that gonna make me horny too?" He asked bluntly.
Jabber could barely wait anymore for the high. If what he felt during the first stage was already enough to make him aroused, he was curious as to what the intoxication phase would do. Regardless, he knew he'd enjoy every second of it.
"It shouldn't," you answered and fixed the pillows behind his head, letting him rest on an incline. It made the process easier.
With steady hands you picked up the cup from earlier, giving it one more swirl before bringing it to his lips. "Drink," you whispered and gave a fair warning, "It'll taste bitter."
Jabber licked his lips in preparation, watching the swirling liquid with a mix of curiosity and slight apprehension at your warning about the taste. He tilted his head up eagerly as you brought the cup to his mouth, taking slow sips at first.
Almost immediately though, that bitter tang hit hard on tongue and he wrinkled nose before gulping down the rest quickly enough just to get rid of the awful flavor.
"Ugh," Jabber groaned dramatically once the empty cup was lowered from lips, making an exaggerated disgusted face while swallowing thickly several times. "That’s vile as shit."
"I warned you, though," You hummed with an expression of enjoyment. "You're welcome."
A shudder ran through him briefly before relaxing again under the dual influences. First it was the calming herbs, then the relaxing oil, now this bitter tea that tastes of plants and chemicals.
Within moments, that bitterness faded into nothingness as if he never drank it. His breathing had already started evening out more than normal; chest rising and falling deeper between inhales and exhales. He was naturally reacting toward the chemical infusion working its way toward his brain.
"...How long?" He slurred slightly when speaking again after licking the remaining taste off his bottom lip.
"Soon," you set the cup down. "Very soon."
You lifted the wooden tube from earlier and opened another vial. This vial had some sort of powder inside, tinted grey and with one end of the tube, you managed to get the powder inside. You set the vial aside and carefully aligned it with his nose.
"This might feel weird," you warned before blowing through the tube, successfully shooting the powder through his nostril.
Jabber's nose flared instinctively as the powder shot up his nasal passage, a sharp tickle spreading instantly through his sinuses. He didn’t sneeze, but the sensation was weird. It felt like an invasive coolness that radiated from his nostrils outward toward his forehead and cheeks in rapid waves.
"Fucking--," he grunted, squeezing his eyes shut for a second while pinching the bridge of nose reflexively. That weirdness you’d warned about was definitely there.
For a few seconds, he just breathed through his mouth heavily while adjusting to foreign substances now dissolving deep inside his nasal cavity before settling into the caverns of his lungs. The calming herbs earlier had made him floaty, but this was a new layer.
A slow moan escaped him unconsciously as the first proper wave of toxins began cresting over the mental horizon. His pupils dilated visibly under the flickering candlelight when he looked back at you with a dazed expression, slowly overtaking his previously cocky demeanor.
"...That’s... hitting," Jabber mumbled thickly.
You could practically watch his cognition blurring in real time across those violet eyes that were glued onto your face.
"Almost there," you assured him.
Reaching to your hip, you lifted the kaleidoscope into your palm. Its polished brass frame caught the dim light before you gave it a gentle twirl between your fingers.
The instrument answered instantly. A crystalline hum resonated through the air, low at first before blooming into a chorus of ringing tones that seemed to harmonize with your heartbeat. Threads of iridescent light seeped from the seams of the scope, unfurling like ribbons of liquid stained glass.
Every turn sent another cascade of color spilling outward, deep violets melting into electric blues, brilliant emeralds dissolving into molten gold, only to burst into impossible shades that seemed to exist somewhere beyond ordinary sight.
The haze gathered around you, wrapping itself over your silhouette until your outline shimmered with shifting prisms. Your eyes caught the same radiance, their irises reflecting an endless spectrum as though galaxies had condensed behind them.
Jabber watched in silent amazement, transfixed by the spectacle. He remembered, faintly, your explanation that the kaleidoscope wasn't merely something to look through. It was your vital instrument, one that synchronized perception itself, allowing you to guide another's senses through carefully woven illusions.
You leaned down just enough to meet his gaze, already noticing the first signs taking hold. His pupils expanded, swallowing nearly all of the color from his irises as tiny flecks of reflected light danced across their surface.
Slowly, almost ceremonially, you lifted the kaleidoscope until it rested within his line of sight.
"Look into the glass," you whispered.
Jabber obediently focused on the kaleidoscope as you brought it before him. Both eyes instinctively locked onto the ever-turning chamber within. The fractured mirrors awakened the instant his gaze settled, igniting with impossible motion.
What began as colorful fragments blossomed into an endless cathedral of living geometry. Intricate mandalas unfolded into infinite spirals, crystalline tessellations rotated through one another, and luminous fractals bloomed like flowers made entirely of starlight.
Colors no language had names for shimmered between every familiar hue, flowing together without ever becoming muddy or dull. Each rotation birthed entirely new constellations of light, folding reality into itself over and over again.
The chemicals already coursing through his system amplified every sensation beyond reason. The instrument didn't simply show him the patterns, it immersed him inside them. He could almost feel the colors brushing against his skin, hear the shapes chiming like delicate glass bells, taste the sweetness of warm amber and the cool sharpness of sapphire as the impossible spectrum poured through his senses.
A soft gasp escaped him as reality peeled away in gentle layers. The room dissolved into drifting prisms while luminous ribbons stretched into infinity around him. Every blink carried him deeper, each breath scattering another wave of impossible symmetry through the endless kaleidoscopic expanse.
The glass was no longer a lens. It had become a doorway into a surreal cosmos of living color, where light breathed, patterns sang, and every turn of the instrument invited him one step further into the beautiful impossible.
"Holy... fuck..." he breathed out shakily between parted lips while transfixed by spectacle unfolding before him.
Every rotation you gave the scope sent new kaleidoscopic delights bursting forth. Galaxies born from glass fragments, rainbows splitting infinitely, impossible angles bending reality itself. All of it sent Jabber in a daze.
His chest rose faster with shallow breaths coming quicker than usual, not from anxiety but pure awe at how beautiful everything looked suddenly while under the influence.
"You're seeing it?" You asked softly watching his pupil dilation intensify as seconds go by.
"Mmhmm," came a drowsy affirmative mumble, accompanied with a blown out smile.
Once you got confirmation, you set the scope down, watching him be in his own world. Jabber was completely gone, floating in a euphoric haze where the boundaries between his body and the colorful visions had blurred into nothingness. His smile remained lazy and content, lips slightly parted as soft little sighs escaped him periodically.
Every thought felt slow, syrupy sweet like honey dripping through his mind. No worries existed here; no past or future to worry about. Just now, just this, just infinite fractal beauty constantly on repeat.
The toxins had worked their magic flawlessly; the euphoria agent doing its job by flooding synapses with dopamine while sensory enhancers made ordinary sounds sound richer and more textured.
He absently licked his bottom lip again before murmuring something incoherent under breath, "...So pretty..."
It wasn’t directed at anything specific, just a general awe at how everything felt. Colors brighter than ever seen before even if his eyes weren’t open; touch sensations amplified so that the fabric against his skin was registered ten times more intensely.
And then there was you above him.
Through a half-lidded gaze and swimming in a chemical bliss, you looked divine hovering over your patient who wanted to worship every inch of you in gratitude for bringing him this high.
Without thinking too hard, because thinking deeply sucked right now, Jabber lifted shaky hands toward face wanting to caress your cheeks adoringly. The hands rose with a sluggish, dreamy grace, his movements slowed by the euphoric haze blanketing his mind. His fingers trembled slightly as they neared your face from the overwhelming want to touch you.
The second his calloused fingertips finally brushed against your cheeks, a shiver of pure bliss shot through him. Your skin felt impossibly soft under the chemical-amplified sensation; every minute texture and warmth was amplified beyond normal perception.
"Fuck," he whispered hoarsely at the contact alone like it was some sacred experience rather than just stroking someone’s face.
His thumbs gently swept along your cheekbones while his palms cradled your jawline reverently. Every tiny movement sent waves of affectionate pleasure crashing over him. In his eyes, you weren’t just hot, you were art. The most beautiful thing in this entire reality trip he currently inhabited.
A dopey grin stretched across Jabber’s flushed face as he stared up at you with glassy eyes full of devotion and lust tangled together. He couldn't resist leaning upward slightly in a weak attempt to press a sloppy kiss against your mouth. Once his lips connected with yours, it was game over for him.
He took you down with him, lips in a lazy yet crazy frenzy as he wanted more. The kiss started slow and sloppy, Jabber moving his lips against yours with a clumsy enthusiasm fueled by the toxins swirling through his system.
Every press of mouths sent sparks of pleasure shooting down to his groin, he was already getting hard from just kissing you. It only made him more hard once he realized you reciprocated each kiss.
But god, it felt amazing. The euphoria agent amplified every sensation ten times over; your taste, the softness of your lips, even the tiny sounds you might make if he kissed deeper. All of it was heavenly.
He moaned into your mouth between messy kisses that lacked coordination but made up for it in passion. His tongue slid clumsily against yours as soon as an opening presented itself, eager to explore and taste more.
Jabber’s hips twitched upward involuntarily beneath you, seeking friction wherever possible despite having little to no muscle control in his main limbs. Yet, that growing erection pressed insistently against the layers of fabric that was separating your body with his.
Every nerve ending was firing wildly now thanks to the combination of aphrodisiacs kicking fully into gear, alongside the other compounds riding high in the bloodstream.
When oxygen became necessary after several breathless seconds, he broke the kiss only far enough to pant heavily while forehead rested against yours; Eyes screwed shut behind fluttering lids, chasing visual hallucinations.
"Are you alright?" You asked as you noted his silence.
"Fuck baby. More than alright," Jabber breathed raggedly before diving back in for another searing kiss immediately after recovering slightly.
He needed you like air right now. Something told him it wouldn't matter in the future if he will be high or not high at all. Jabber was completely lost in the haze of intoxication and desire, his entire body thrumming with need as he kissed you with reckless abandon. Each kiss grew more feverish than the last, his breathing ragged and uneven between desperate presses of lips.
His hands slid down from your face to grip at your waist again, fingers digging in slightly as if trying to pull you even closer despite already being seated on top of him. That hard-on pressed insistently against your center made it impossible not to feel how badly he wanted you right now.
Every roll of hips seeking friction drew out another groan from deep within his chest, the rough sounds muffled occasionally by sloppy kisses that kept getting interrupted by panting breaths before you both crashed back together like addicts chasing a high.
The toxins weren’t just making him horny; they were turning every sensation into pure ecstasy. Your weight on him felt incredible. The heat between bodies drove him wild. Even the fabric rubbing against hos sensitive arousal was straight up torture.
"Need you," Jabber mumbled brokenly against your mouth during a brief pause for air before attacking those luscious lips once more with wet open-mouthed kisses.
Those dilated pupils staring up at yours begged silently, and loudly, without words. He was beyond a coherent thought at this point; His brain reduced to a single-minded focus: Let me please you. No-- Please let me fuck you.
"You aren't in the right mind, Jabber," you whispered, placing a gentle hand on his racing heart.
Jabber whined pathetically at your gentle hand on his chest, the contrast between your soothing touch and the filthy thoughts swirling in his drugged mind only making him more desperate. His heart pounded violently beneath your palm, like a trapped animal thrashing to be freed.
"Don't care," he slurred out immediately, voice thick with lust and chemical fog.
Every rational thought had been vaporized by the aphrodisiacs coursing through him; all that remained was raw need. He nuzzled into your neck like an overaffectionate puppy seeking skin to kiss or bite, lips trailing sloppy open-mouthed kisses down toward the collarbone while his hips kept grinding up helplessly against you.
The way you called him out for not being in the right mind only turned him on harder. It was true. He was high as balls and horny as hell.
"You're so fucking pretty," Jabber rasped between wet kisses along any visible skin near your cleavage before attempting, badly, to suck a mark there without any finesse whatsoever.
His entire body burned with arousal fueled by artificial hormones pumping through the system nonstop. Every inch of contact sent electric jolts straight down south where he was painfully strained against his pants.
He nipped at your throat with blunt teeth, not hard enough to hurt, but enough to express his growing impatience. His breathing came in hot, uneven bursts against your skin as he rutted upwards desperately seeking any kind of relief for that aching erection.
"Please baby," he begged shamelessly against the damp skin of your throat.
His usually confident demeanor was completely shattered by the overwhelming combination of toxins and sexual frustration. Every second you didn’t give in to fucking him felt like torture.
"Fuck me," he growled slowly in-between kisses and bites along the jawline before capturing your lips again in a sloppy kiss. The way he kissed screamed starved, like a man who hadn’t been laid properly in months.
One of his hands left your skin, his palm sliding down to press firmly over his bulge straining pants clearly showing off how rock-hard he’d gotten from all this foreplay.
You broke the kiss, following his hand with your eyes and watched as he palmed himself to relieve some tension. As desperate as he was, you knew you couldn't give into his desires.
"You know I can't think straight right now," Jabber muttered breathlessly beside your ear, putting on a show for you. "Just wanna fuck you so bad."
A flush or warmth spread over your cheeks at his vulgar words. "Jabber, you are out of it right now," you reminded, though it didn’t do anything besides earn you a kiss on the cheek.
His hips gave another slow roll upward, emphasizing just how ready he was. You had to admit, the sight was interesting, but it was against your morals. Sensing your thoughts, Jabber set his hands on your waist, silently urging you to at least grind on him.
Your moral dilemma was clearly visible in your expression. But didn't care about morals right now, he was burning up with lust, every nerve ending screaming for the sweet friction and release.
With a needy groan, he squeezed your waist tighter and started grinding his hips upward in slow circles against the heat between your thighs. Even through layers of clothing, the pressure of it sent jolts of pleasure shooting up his spine.
"Come on," he pleaded hoarsely against the shell of ear before nipping at the lobe playfully. "Just ride me a little... don’t gotta fuck yet just move."
The plea dripped with desperation. This man had never begged so pathetically for sex before, but the drugs plus the arousal meant zero pride left in him.
Each roll upward emphasized how painfully hard he was, the thick outline visibly tenting his pants. He could already imagine how much better it’d feel if there were no barriers at all. The thought alone made jerk more erratically than before, an effect of the drugs in his system.
A broken moan escaped him as another particularly good grind hit the perfect spot on his pelvis. "What did you give me?" He almost cried out from pleasure.
"Hallucinogens, aphrodisiacs, dissociatives, empathogens," you trailed off, a weak sigh leaving your lips as he rolled his hips up. "And of course, the kaleidoscope effects."
Jabber's brain short-circuited slightly hearing the list of substances that were currently messing up his system. It was no wonder he felt like this. You gave him a chemical cocktail designed to melt his mind and turn his body into a pleasure machine.
He buried his face in the crook of your neck, inhaling deeply just to savor how amazing you smelled. With his sense of smell enhanced to the max, he could visualize all the chemicals and toxins you worked with along with whatever plants you brewed and burned. It reminded him of himself, the chemicals and toxins, at least.
"Fuck that’s good," Jabber mumbled into your skin before licking a slow stripe upward toward your ear.
His hips kept moving relentlessly beneath you, chasing friction like an addict chasing the next climax. "You’re such a fuckin’ goddess," he slurred out drunkenly on lust. "Please let me cum."
Jabber was desperate to cum. Every nerve in his body screamed for release, the aphrodisiacs dialing up his arousal to unbearable levels while simultaneously delaying his orgasm like some cruel joke. The toxins were making him hyper-sensitive yet frustratingly unable to tip over the edge without proper stimulation.
"So close," he gasped out between panting breaths, sweat beginning to bead on his forehead from exertion.
His brain cells were practically frying one by one under the chemical onslaught happening in his body. It sure was a sight to see how he still had some control of his muscles and speech. Most patients would have gone numb by now.
You leaned away from him, but his hands found yours. Jabber's grip on your hands tightened eagerly the moment you complied, his eyes flashing with hazy hunger as he felt you finally start moving. That sweet friction sent a shudder of pure ecstasy through his entire body.
"Like that?" You questioned, keeping your eyes locked on his pleasure-contorted face.
"Yes, fuck yes," he choked out, head falling back against the pillows as his hips arched up to meet each downward grind.
The movement quickly became rhythmic and sinful. It pushed him closer to the edge but it still was not enough for him to tip over as those aphrodisiac compounds kept his orgasm at bay just long enough for maximum torture.
"Riding me so perfect," Jabber praised hoarsely between gritted teeth.
Sweat dripped down his temple while his pupils stayed blown black with lust; both high and horny beyond reason, chasing nothing but a mind-blowing release. He bit his lower lip hard, trying to resist begging too loudly and failing when another particularly deep grind made his toes curl.
"Come on, Jabber," you huffed out, urging him to find his release.
Jabber couldn't hold back anymore at your encouragement. Your voice alone pushed him over the edge and combined with the relentless grinding and chemical-fueled arousal, it was too much to handle.
"Fuck I'm cumming!" he groaned out loud, hips bucking wildly beneath you as his orgasm finally exploded through his entire body like a lightning strike.
Thick ropes of cum became trapped in his pants, soaking the fabric instantly as wave after wave of pleasure crashed over him violently. Every muscle locked up; abs clenched hard while his back arched off cushions briefly before collapsing back down trembling.
"Shit," Jabber panted heavily afterward when brain started rebooting.
His sweat covered forehead and chest rose and fell rapidly while he twitched weakly against the woven mat.
For several blissful seconds, he laid there dazed and wrecked by how amazing that release felt after being edged from the toxins for what seemed like hours.
But even while he still felt the effects of the orgasm and the drugs, his hands still lazily stroked up and down your thighs affectionately, a quiet praise for how you’d ridden him into oblivion perfectly.
"You're amazing," he mumbled dreamily with stupid lovestruck smile on flushed face.
He sensed you move around, but before he could question what you were doing, he felt that familiar tube on his nostril. Jabber didn't have a moment to brace himself before he felt something shoot up his nose. It burned more than the first, but most importantly, a liquid was shot up this time.
The sudden rush of liquid shooting up Jabber's nose sent a sharp, burning sensation flaring through his sinuses that made him instinctively scrunch his face and try to move away.
"Ahh fuck!" he yelped reflexively despite being in a post-orgasmic bliss just seconds ago.
The burn lingered intensely for a few heartbeats before slowly spreading into a cool wave through his body. Slowly, but surely, he came down from the high and regained all of his senses.
The liquid nasal dose was designed to counteract or modify certain effects of previous substances. Almost immediately, he noticed shifts in perception; His vision, which had been slightly hazy and bright from the euphoric toxins earlier, no longer existed and the fractals faded into reality.
"Damn..." Jabber murmured aloud while flexing his fingers experimentally, checking if his body felt normal again after such an intense high and climax.
The aphrodisiac's grip on libido seemed loosened considerably. There was no more frustrating erection and his brain finally was able to focus beyond pure lust.
You watched him closely as consciousness returned bit by bit. "Are you feeling okay?" You asked, holding onto the reversal antidote and the tube.
Jabber took a few more slow breaths, flexing his jaw and rolling his shoulders as the last remnants of the intense chemical high receded. The antidote was doing its job beautifully, the brain fog dissipating, thoughts becoming coherent again instead of floating in that blissed-out haze.
"Yeah... yeah I'm good," he answered after a moment, voice now clearer and less slurred than before.
The aphrodisiac's grip on him had loosened significantly; that all-consuming horny desperation had dulled to just normal post-sex satisfaction rather than obsessive lust. He rubbed at nose briefly where the liquid dose had been administered before looking up at you with much more present eyes, pupils no longer blown wide but returning to their natural size gradually.
"That shit worked fast," Jabber commented with mild awe while he tested his motor skills by lifting his arms to stretch.
Everything felt normal again. The overwhelming euphoria? Gone. Hyper-sexuality? Diminished dramatically.
Hallucinogenic visuals? Faded completely from his awareness. All thanks to the cleverly engineered reversal agents neutralizing the previous compounds' effects.
A tired but content sigh escaped him as his body finally relaxed into the pillows and mat. Jabber felt exhausted now that the toxins had been countered. It was like crashing hard after an intense party.
A lazy smile played on his lips as he stared up at the tent ceiling decorated with those shimmering ornaments that now looked perfectly normal instead of trippy psychedelic artworks.
"Fuck... that was insane," Jabber mumbled drowsily.
"But you liked it, right?" You questioned curiously.
Every muscle felt pleasantly loose and warm, the good kind of exhaustion you get after incredible sex, which technically hadn't even included actual intercourse; Just grinding and cumming hard enough to leave him spent.
"Of course I did. You're fucking amazing at your job," he praised, stretching one arm above his head again before letting it flop down beside your hip weakly.
You got off his lap with a small smile, appreciating the compliment if it even was one. Jabber watched you with half-lidded eyes, the warmth of your body so soon.
He let out another deep sigh. Every inch of him felt sated and heavy, limbs pleasantly weighted by exhaustion rather than the chemical sedation.
A dopey grin kept tugging at Jabber’s mouth as memories from the session replayed briefly. Your gorgeous face hovering above him while grinding on him; those sloppy kisses drowning each other; how hard he’d cum from nothing but grinding.
"Best goddamn trip ever," he declared hoarsely before yawning widely. He rubbed tired eyes with one hand. "Do you always do clients like that?" He asked curiously.
"I never give anyone aphrodisiacs. And never ride them too," you answered. "But you seemed special so I thought why not." You gave him a glance over your shoulder before getting to work on putting everything back.
Jabber felt a swell of pride and extreme satisfaction hearing that he’d been treated to something special. Not just any client got aphrodisiacs added to their dose, that meant you’d singled him out as someone worth going the extra mile for sexually.
A smug little smirk curled his lips despite how sleepy he was. He almost cheered with the fact that he was special in your eyes. That knowledge alone made his chest puff up slightly with pride.
"Fucking love being special," Jabber mumbled, voice thick with drowsiness and afterglow.
He watched you clean up the space through a heavy-lidded gaze; the way you moved so efficiently putting vials away, stashing tubes, and folding blankets. Watching you do something so simple had him on the verge of getting turned on again.
He finally pushed himself upright slowly, muscles protesting slightly from exertion. Jabber rubbed his neck briefly, eyes eventually paying attention to the dark patch on his pants.
"You wanna fuck for real next time?" He asked bluntly while stretching his arms overhead, causing his now loose shirt to ride upward revealing his toned abs, hoping to catch your eye.
Jabber flashed a lazy, very hopeful grin as he caught your gaze after that intentional stretch to show off his abs. The man wasn’t even being subtle about wanting another round with you; this time completely bare and proper sex instead of just grinding through clothes. That sounded like absolute heaven.
"I'll think about it," you mumbled. "You'll get your answer if you visit again," you told him, putting in vials and jars of toxins in a small bag for him to take to his boss, maybe you added a couple more extras just for him to enjoy. "I enjoyed our time together," you gave him a small smile, "Turned out different than I expected it to be."
Jabber perked up at the possibility of a next time, that cocky grin widening across his face like Christmas had come early. The fact you didn’t outright say no meant there was definitely hope for round two.
He watched eagerly as you packed up vials and toxins neatly into bags; Some clearly intended for his boss but… were those extra ones just for him? A little bonus stash maybe? The idea of you slipping him personal doses on top of mission requirements made his ego inflate even more. You really did like him if you treated specially like this.
Once everything was ready to go, Jabber finally stood fully stretching out stiff muscles before sauntering over to where you stood by the supplies.
Leaning down suddenly, he pressed a slow kiss against your lips, soft compared to the earlier sloppy makeouts. You reciprocated the kiss, allowing him to slip in his tongue and have his cold hand wander around.
"Thanks baby," he murmured against mouth after pulling back an inch or two.
He nuzzled his nose against yours affectionately before finally breaking away completely with obvious reluctance. He didn’t wanna leave your side.
"Stay safe," You bid him a timid goodbye.
Taking the bag of toxins from you carefully, Jabber slung it over one shoulder like it weighed nothing despite it containing dangerous substances, not that he cared about that part.
"Gonna come back soon," he promised in a low voice laced with both certainty and lingering lust. There was no way he was passing up another chance to get high and get messed up stupid by you again.
With one last squeeze at your waist, he stepped back toward the tent entrance. "You better save my spot," Jabber added with a wink and a shit-eating grin plastered across his face as he turned to walk out of the cozy shelter.
The cool night breeze hit his skin immediately but it didn't bother him. He kept walking with his chin held high, ignoring the people who were still going through the episode outside your tent.
The whole walk, his mind kept replaying the beat highlights: grinding on you, that earth-shattering orgasm from just friction alone, and he absolutely planned on collecting on that promised "next time" very soon.
He was already counting down the hours till he could return back for proper intercourse with the one and only who dosed him perfectly. Maybe he'll sneak you in the hideout himself.
He sighed with a lazy smile on his face before speaking to himself, "Fuck, if this job didn’t have amazing perks sometimes.”
