My friend got me watching the Canada GP the other day and with no other context other than a quick tumblr deep dive here are my early thoughts on the GP/general F1:
- the Mercedes team has the sibling dynamic of two children born like half a decade apart whose childhoods overlapped but the eldest is aggressively aware of what different houses they grew up (and still live) in while the younger is no thoughts head empty #eldestdaughterGR
- Alex Albon has suffered like Jesus and accidentally run over rodents
- Lewis Hamilton never done anything wrong ever (friend’s opinion, needs citing but seems accurate) I also got introduced to the brocedes lore which holy shit
- let them keep the helmets ad free it would help me remember who’s who
- Antonelli is a chihuahua
- They should introduce more split screens to the live match
- George Russell is a walking meme
- Verstappen seems pretty good and him and Hamilton’s last minute battle was very fun
- do they usually lose this many drivers? If so, brilliant, sounds fun but if not ouch that’s a rough track
- I like the cooldown room it feels like it’d be full of drama but I also want a DNF room where they give you hard alcohol not just the champagne, think you’d need it
- age gap yaoi in the Audi team? When the cars suck you keep busy somehow I guess
- definitely seems like some crews are better listening to the drivers than others
- apparently LeClerc is the F1 pretty boy (again according to my friend) but they all seem hot enough that the helmets should be transparent

Emma was getting that threesome in Season 3, the show runners told me directly.
Finally watched The Pitt and I gotta say I’m so excited to see the dynamic between the duos of Langdon/Mel and Trinity/Mel next season. Whether you ship them or friendship them it’s beautiful to imagine that the two people Mel has gotten closest to in the ED just do not fucking get along because they see themselves in each other and hate it. Mel going ‘Dr Langdon! Dr Santos!’ and accidentally facilitating a new (evil) friendship when?
obviously I am far from the only person to note the crossover potential between Game Changers and Ted Lasso but I get a perverse kind of joy out of imagining how much Shane Hollander would absolutely despise Ted Lasso as a coach
Ilya would hate Ted Lasso but fuck with Coach Beard.
Aegon II didn’t actually lose much hair at Rook’s Rest but in an evil far beyond kinslaying Aemond had shaved his hairline like Viserys’ every night while he was unconscious to destroy his real source of strength (Alicent’s impeccable hair genes)
I don't know what I love more: Sophie having the cheek the nerve the gall the audacity and the gumption to basically tell Benedict "You make me too horny, you must leave your own house" OR Benedict responding with "You're absolutely right and I am so sorry, I'll go pack my shit"
Only Sophie could be powerfully enough to kick a man out of his own house REPEATEDLY
I’m doing a pop up signing in London for Daphne Press’ edition of Secrets of Blackthorn Hall! Tickets are super limited as it’s a small signing but you can get them here:
Cassandra Clare will be signing copies of Secrets of Blackthorn Hall at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore
And as you can see, you need a book to get into the event — so either a copy of Secrets of Blackthorn Hall from Forbidden Planet is your ticket, OR if you backed the Kickstarter you can buy just a general admission ticket (six pounds to basically cover paying the bookstore staff, rental for the space) and bring your Kickstarter edition of SoBH. See you there, I hope!
Got an exam at uni that day and am legitimately sending my sister on my behalf since I can’t make it

Edited in October 2024: Cassie has compiled a lot of the bonus content in different PDFs, you can find them here, but please be aware that you have to be a newsletter subscriber to have access to these files.
This list is still a WIP, but I’m doing my best to update everything! Since some content is exclusive and even Cassie hasn’t shared it yet, I also won’t share it here. I’ve still listed it and I’m sure you’ll find it elsewhere. :)

Hey so if any of you are doing any sort of reread before The Last King of Faerie, I think you’d appreciate this
Rereading Clockwork Angel and can’t believe I never clocked that Thomas Lightwood was named after Thomas of the Institute who fought to defend Sophie and the others when Mortmain and Nate came. He loved Sophie and even though she didn’t love him in the same way, Sophie named her only son after him. Thomases you are so loved by me.
Hiya Cassie! I’m so excited for The Last King of Faerie, though I’m not looking forward to figuring out how to fit it on the very full Shadowhunters shelf. Anyway though I love Ty (seeing autistic characters with their sensory accommodations means so much to me) I wanted to ask about Drusilla. Does she watch a lot of horror movies with Downworlders as the creatures/villains? Is she throwing popcorn and booing the inaccuracies?
That is very cute. I would say Drusilla has no way to watch any horror movies in TLKOF so it doesn’t really come up -though there is discussion of her love of horror movies and why she likes them, and how experiencing fear/scariness at this distance that art provides can help you cope with real fears. Also it gives her an interesting perspective on Thule, which is itself a horror movie of sorts.
One thing I do love about Dru is that she likes really old horror movies, and they have all these great names like Doctor Terror’s House of Horrors. We will see her in the series watching them and perhaps forcing others to watch them too :)
(my inbox is open at the moment, but I’m trying to think of a better way to do this so it isn’t just like, well, you have to check randomly to see if it’s open or not! Like maybe every Friday at five or something?)
Guys Cassandra Clare answered my question this is officially the peak of my tumblr account. Also Dru-dictated horror movie nights are now officially canon to me :)
Keep having to resist the urge to let myself get sucked back into the Shadowhunter Chronicles I’m not doing this again until a fortnight before TLKOF is released - don’t think I didn’t clock that new delay.
… the new cover got me. I’ve reread four TSC books in two days.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE HEDGE KNIGHT & AKOTSK!!!
The moment that made me love Maekar.
While reading The Hedge Knight, I didn't think much of Maekar for the majority of the novella. That was until the end, when Maekar has a conversation with Dunk after the trial of seven and Baelor's death. Maekar tells Dunk that Egg wishes to squire for him and asks Dunk if he will take him on as his squire. Dunk is understandably shocked and responds that he is only a hedge knight. Maekar then offers him a position in Summerhall as a knight of his household. Dunk turns him down telling him this:
"I will take your son as squire, Your Grace, but not at Summerhall. Not for a year or two. He's seen sufficient of castles, I would judge. I'll have him only if I can take him on the road with me."
Now it's Maekar's turn to be understandably shocked. Maekar tells him Egg is a prince of the realm and shouldn't be "sleeping in ditches," after he says this Maekar notices Dunk hesitate to say something. He tells Dunk to speak freely and Dunk does leading to the moment that made me love Maekar:
"Daeron never slept in a ditch, I'll wager," Dunk said, very quietly, "and all the beef Aerion ate was thick and rare and bloody, like as not."
Maekar Targaryen, Prince of Summerhall, regarded Dunk of Flea Bottom for a long time, his jaw working silently beneath his silvery beard. Finally he turned and walked away, never speaking a word. Dunk heard him riding off with his men. When they were gone, there was no sound but the faint thrum of the dragonfly's wings as it skimmed across the water. The boy came the next morning, just as the sun was coming up. He wore old boots, brown breeches, a brown wool tunic, and an old traveler's cloak. "My lord father says I am to serve you."
Even though it went against everything he knew. Even though it is not what he wanted for his son. Even though it meant sending his son away. Maekar, when faced with what was truly best for his son, chose to do what was best for him. That's what made me love Maekar. Despite all his complaining and clear disappointment with (some of) his children. He loves them and wants what is best for them.
I hated that they changed this - it was Maekar’s most redeeming moment in the novella.
The feeling when you love an author’s work and they have another EIGHTY in the fandom you like. Sometimes the fan fiction gods just bless you.
Excited that we’re hearing more from the servants this season but we’re missing the ones I want to hear from most: the people driving Colin and Penelope’s chariots. They’re the backbone of the ton and deserve hazard pay from these exhibitionists.
The change in Thalia’s backstory is INSANE to me. She doesn’t die because of Zeus’ negligence alone, she is turned into a tree by him. Zeus makes everyone complicit in his lies. He’s the top dog who makes every leader under him part of his scheme. Even Chiron. No wonder Thalia hates Percy, not only has he stolen her people and her life but his dad actually cares. Thalia loses personhood because she refuses to be a weapon but both Percy and Luke risk (or end up) becoming weapons for the other side and are still allowed to exist. Thalia sees almost every other character, even Annabeth (the little girl she protected in hopes of her having a safe future) as being able to access a kind of life and security that will always be denied to her by her father and his callousness. Book spoilers ahead:
This makes Thalia choosing to sign up with Artemis even more of an impactful and selfless decision IMO. Thalia loves her family but knowingly separates herself from them and their fates. She knows she could be powerful and great but instead chooses to be subordinate to someone she trusts not to misuse her power. Not only that but she chooses Artemis, her sister, who took the same bargain. To be able to protect the ones she loves instead of being powerful and all-adored. Artemis has no children but she’s connected to her hunters in the same way Thalia builds a connection with her own demigod family. Neither need to feel like they’re great, they just need their own people. Anyway, Thalia was never going to be Olympus’ hero. Much like Percy, she’s too zeroed in on the specifics. Unlike Percy, Thalia struggles to look outside her own experience. But she knows this so instead she puts herself outside the equation. Thalia knows what she never wants to become and she’ll do whatever she needs to in order to hold firm to that.
