Is it me or is the FFVII Revelation trailer deceptively light on plot compared to earlier trailers Where you can at least get the vibes of the story I wonder what they are planning? Because I honestly think they wouldn't do this if it was a 1:1 remake....

The fact that Anidala has had SUCH a huge influence(verifiable by going to the first ever post of the Star Wars Prequel Appreciation Society; which confirms it was set up by Anidala shippers) in the early pro-PT spaces, yet all this will be lost history as the fandom turns more towards Jedi Uncrit explanations of things+the misconception that "no one was supposed to like Anidala anyways" is genuinely a sad thing to see

My biggest pet peeve in SW fandom is "Anakin and Padme were wrong and selfish for falling in love and getting married" while people praise Obiwan and Luke for loving Anakin 🙄

anakin and padme’s romance pulls from opera and classic tragedy so heavily, like i wouldn’t call their story new by any means, which is why it’s maddening when people feel the need to flatten anakin’s physical abuse even further. it’s a moment of rage that is his lowest point and happens in the depth of hell! the story firmly lays out how bad it is and how to feel about it! and yet for decades people have gone in circles stressing about how the relationship should’ve been abusive from the start, actually, or it WAS but people deny it, or THIS abuse is in character but not this and victimhood really should look like THIS and so on, when again, if you just read any older romance classic or get a little bit into gothic fiction, it becomes very clear what’s happening and what they were going for

star wars prequels discoursers, consider: “a winters tale” has this wretched man thing-ify and brutalize his wife in a ridiculously compressed span of time, the tragedy that shakespeare used to give a whole play now seems to happen in an instant—so as to make him live with it for the rest of the play, to stew with the worst thing he’s done for years and years. and shakespeare isn’t doing this to “punish” the guy necessarily, he’s doing it as a complication of his previous tragic works, to explore the fallout and find the light. and then at the end of the play, when his wife emerges from the stone, it’s not about erasing the past but about life for life’s sake. surely the arc of a man forced to sit in the mess of who he is and how unjust his treatment of his wife was, surely this is a more interesting lens than back and forth on whether abuse really is that bad/if abuse bad, why character found sympathetic?

I think pro jedi stans often also being anti anakin people is an interesting demonstration of how they are often people who seek an individualistic answer to societal problems (e.g. anakin is inherently bad and it's not the jedi's fault) instead of systemic (e.g. the jedi order in the late republic era are systematically corrupt and fail many of its members, most notably anakin skywalker, through rigidity and emotional repression) but what do I, the lady with a humanities and law degrees*, know about systematic flaws

talking with people about star wars in real life, reminding me that the general perception of the jedi in the PT is well-meaning but flawed and that the 'jedi did no wrong' crowd are the outlier that make most casual viewers go: 'okay, but you're wrong though, WHY have you attached so much of your personal worth to this fictional religious organisation??? are you an australian who put your religion as jedi on the census?'

one person put it in a perfect way: for many pro jedi fans, the jedi represent escapism. and that's fine, but it means that any critiques of the text are taken incredibly personally, when like. the jedi are a fictional religious organisation and I have freedom of expression as a human so. critique.
