krel has continuously shown his disgust whenever aja and steve kiss or do anything couple-y, saying that he doesn’t get dating at all. in the laser meteor episode he fixes something and it shines rainbow lights over himself. as we all know guillermo loves his visual symbolism and always calls it back.

eli has also shown disgust when aja and steve kiss, and teases steve by calling him “lover boy” a bunch of times in s2. when toby calls him and asks if he’s with steve, he says they’re just friends and not dating, implying that people have thought they were dating before. moreover it implies people thought he might be into guys.

the tales of arcadia series has a general trend of matching up all the cast with each other. krel is the only main character who does not have a love interest and going in order of screen time eli is the next important character who does not have a love interest. eli is canonically stated to be krel’s best friend.

the end of 3below specifically showed a parallel to the end of trollhunters. steve gets separated from eli and aja just like toby got separated from claire and jim. you’ll also note that steve gets separated from his love interest, aja. interesting how krel gets separated from eli too even though he’s supposedly his best friend and someone that krel wanted to stay behind on earth for. interesting how all these parallels are popping up

if this season has shown anything it’s that guillermo does not shy away from controversial moves i.e. the kiss between shannon and blonde mary, and all the parallels to the current ice situation in the us.
