It had been a house warming gift from Nagisa who was really into all this New Age-y stuff lately. Sousuke turned on his heel and headed out the door. Time to get ready for his own video.

This is the worst possible time to lose his calm and yet, he can feel his heart breaking like a physical ache in his chest. He sucks in a shuddering breath but it does nothing to mend the cracks. Life had been so much clearer without love. He likes everything to be clearcut and in order, black and white. Rei does not deal well with indecision or fuzzy grey areas.

“So, which is it?” he demands, needing a yes or no answer like he needs air. There is something else he needs more, he knows, but that’s not up to him to decide. Rei knows what he wants, and only Rin can give it. He already holds Rei’s heart in his hands anyway, whether he knows it or not.

There is no right or wrong answer, only pain or no pain, and they’re balancing on a knife’s edge now. There is no turning back, only moving forward, and despite bracing himself for disappointment, Rei is unable to squash that tiny flicker of hope lighting up his insides. If he’s lucky, the warmth will heat up and cauterise the parts of him that have already been ripped open, but Rei shuts that thought down right away.

Hope really does die a slow death.
