For the GSA club at my school, I designed a club t-shirt. This project challenged my digital arts skills and helped me to work collaboratively with others. The shirts just arrived as of last thursday.

GSA Day of Silence: Action

The Day of Silence is a worldwide event where (primarily) students stop talking for one entire day in protest of lgbtq+ bullying. I participated in this event and learned a lot about collaborating with others and issues of global importance.

Our school's GSA meets bi-weekly for an hour to discuss issues and topics related to the lgbtq+ community and works to improve the condition of these students in our own school. I have learned a lot from the club about the global importance of these issues and have participated in service projects.

FHSMUN: Action

FHSMUN is a MUN conference that our group attended. Here I really thought that I improved my speaking skills on our UN Women's group. This was a bigger conference than we had previously went to and it was significantly more challenging and longer.

SMUNC: Action

SMUNC is a MUN conference held at Cape Coral High School that our group attends every year. I had to prepare my country position and debate on topics relevant to the United Nations at this time  for two days. Our topic was education in Latin America and I was India.

OCMUNC: Action

11/21 - 11/23

OCMUNC is a MUN conference that our group puts on at our school every year. It's website can be found here. This year, I was a chair of a UN Security Council. Our topics included Conflict Prevention and Natural Resources, Women, Security and Conflict, and The Democratic People's Republic of the Congo Rebel Groups. In preparation for this conference, I wrote a background guide and researched the country positions on my council. During the conference, my job was to guide the discussions of my delegates and judge their performance.

Today was the day of the seminar. It went over really well and everybody who attended and we spoke to said that it was really well put on and informative. The experience was very exciting for me and I learned a lot. I had to give an address at the beginning of the seminar and I organized everybody for the rest of the day. There will be pictures of the event to come.

During these two months, the preparation for the seminar increased drastically, as it was to be held on the 31st of October. Often there were multiple meetings a week that lasted for several hours and skype meetings after that with individual members of the committee. Especially in the week before the conference, I was spending multiple hours every night preparing, doing things like organizing the volunteers from MUN and the speakers, preparing for room placements, creating schedules and brochures, and emailing everybody involved to make sure that the seminar would be successful.

We have had three meetings since the last time I blogged and multiple newsletters. We have accomplished a lot in this time, including confirming all of our speakers and we're starting to get attendees. We will be going on a radio show within the next month, too. We have been working to get out website operational so that we can more easily mass-distribute information and updates.
