Summer Party
Last night we helped out at a beautiful summer party in the middle of Somerset !
We were really inspired by the colourful selection of cold soups: pea and mint, beetroot with a dollop of horseradish cream, spiced carrot, gazpacho, and yoghurt and cucumber.
There were chocolate brownies, tortes, and meringue nests for pudding!
In exchange for helping out we had free mojitos and margaritas all night!!
An easy throw together banana, chocolate and oat brownie.
After a days walk, we were all keen for something sweet to come home to. Chef Hannah raided the fridge and pulled together these delicious treats with cupboard staples. Mashed banana, oats, dark chocolate, honey, peanut butter. We had to add a spoonful of flour as it was quite wet, but as a first-time experimental recipe, they turned out an absolute treat.
Healthy and delicious.
May Mezze
After a late night in France with an abundance of wine and cheese, what better way to cleanse and replenish ourselves than with a selection of Middle Eastern inspired mezze dishes, made by chef Hannah Taylor from London. The ingredients were simple, fresh and locally sourced: Aubergines, tomatoes, cauliflower, spinach, and garnished with lemon, garlic, oil and parsley. What a feast!

After my first ever yoga class, in which I tried handstands, shoulder stands and almost a headstand, we enjoyed a light and tasty supper. We had a surprisingly green soup which was stimulating for all the senses!! The soup was made from onions, celery, potato, ‘taste the difference’ peas, and handfuls of fresh and peppery watercress!

After a bit of a break, Anita the Eater is back!
We are exploring vegetarian and vegan food at the moment.
Using a nutribullet we made a banana, date and almond smoothie. For two glasses, we mixed together:
2 bananas
2 cups of Almond milk
6 medjool dates
2 spoonfuls of homemade almond butter
a teaspoon of cinnamon
It was completely divine , and Anita said that it tasted like cake mixture! We couldn’t believe that it was so delicious and nutritious!!
We are definitely going to make more of these drinks, but next time, we’ll try adding vanilla instead of cinnamon!

Apéritif ideas For new years eve we made a very special supper of lots of canapés and crudités and dips ! We had grilled aubergine and mozzarella, goats cheese and caramelised onion parcels, home made guacamole , a dip made with tuna, st moret soft cheese and lemon juice, houmus, and of course olives crisps breadsticks , and cucumber and pepper sticks. We made sangria with the meal and champagne for midnight !
Digbeth Dining Club
A street food event consisting of food tents of many cuisines. This friday was the events 2nd birthday so it was so busy but had such a great atmosphere. We had caribbean food, a doughnut burger filled with delicious saltfish and salad. To fulfill our sweet craving we had waffles and a banana split!
Last week my friend Katie and I went to a new Caribbean restaurant, Turtle Bay. There are a few over the country and I would definitely recommend. Cocktails were 2 for 1, so we started with a Caipirinha and also had a 'Rum Runner'.
To start we had chilli fried squid, which was delicious, and for mains, Katie had the 'festival salad', which came with a side of watermelon, and chickpeas and 1/4 jerk chicken on the side, which was on the bone so the meat was so succulent. I had the 'street burger', which was a beef burger with pulled pork, red onion and lettuce, with a side of fries and homemade coleslaw. All of it completely exceeded our expectations and will definitely be returning soon.
One of my favourite places to eat in Birmingham! Bodega is a south american independent restaurant which has the most delicious and flavoursome food. What I love about this kind of food is how the eating experience is so casual and you can pick and choose from a selection. This time we had nachos with guacamole, sour cream and salsa, vegetarian empanadas and the house salad made from spinach, lettuce, avocado, red onion and sweetcorn.
Allotment pickings! I went to Dad's allotment a few weeks ago and this is the loot. Huge amounts of strawberries (with which I made a victoria sponge with fresh strawberries), chinese leaf, peas, mange tout, green beans and a massive courgette!

Spiced carrot, lentil and coriander soup
Earlier this month, Becca and I went over to Chambéry, France to visit Mimi, where she is studying for a year. After a hectic journey there, visiting three countries and four cities, we made it! We had a lovely day sightseeing and catching up and spent the day in Annecy. Then Mimi sprung on us that we would be cooking for nine people that evening!! I suggested making this soup, as it is quick, easy and a crowd pleaser. I made it for the first time on bonfire night, and has a lovely autumnal feel to it. We served with baguettes, cheese a simple salad and lots of wine!
We had a lovely evening and everyone loved the soup. There was an exciting mix of different languages and nationalities which made dinner conversation slow but even more interesting! We ended the night with guitars and singing.
Butternut Squash Soup (serves 4)
1 Butternut Squash 2 Onions 2 Chillis 700ml vegetable stock 4 tablespoons Creme Fraiche Butter Salt and Pepper
Peel and chop the butternut squash and roast for 30 minutes until soft. While it is roasting, peel and chop the onions and chilli and fry in butter. Once the butternut squash is soft, add to pan with the vegetable stock and creme fraiche. Whizz in a blender until smooth. Season to taste.
Beautiful
Becca and I had a delicious warm winter salad with grilled salmon. A bed of young spinach leaves topped with steamed tenderstem broccoli and fine green beans. On top of this we had new potatoes, and onion, courgette, peas and vine tomatoes. Seasoned with salt and pepper. Simplistic and delectable. Finished the meal with a soothing cup of oolong tea.
Due to an abundance of walnuts at Mimi's house, we decided to make a coffee and walnut cake, recipe below, to the delight of Mimi's dad and sister, as it is their favourite cake! It came out a treat, "the best cake I've eaten in years" according to Mimi's dad. We served with a spectacular hot toffee sauce made by Alice and mmmHmm Harry.
