Ship Headcanons day 15: Henclair!

Read end of post for tomorrow's ship! Requests always welcomed in comments or my anonymous ask box!

• Everytime Dustin is the Dungeon Master him and Lucas are flirting over the DnD, they only realize they're flirting with each other about half way though but by then they dont care.

• They're all 'no homo' when they first get together, pretending that they're kissing to experiment and see if they like guys but really that excuse vanished the moment they actually starting making out.

• Complete geeks. Love to sit for hours and just nerd out about a new movie or book and debate everything about it.

• Before they get together, they are staring at each other when the other isnt looking but they are SO OBVIOUS! Everyone sees them doing it and are trying not to laugh at the yearning looks passed through them.

• Lucas gets into the habit of grabbing Dustin by his jacket or belt loops when he needs/wants Dustin's attention, it's why Dustin is always wearing something with belt loops or a jacket now.

• Lucas likes seeing all of Dustin's tech, likes helping him build them and watching him fix and tinker with them.

• Stubborn as hell about everything, but their fights only really last a day or two before one apologizes. 

• Erica finds out about them first, she isnt told about but shes smart and corners Lucas about a week after they get together. 

• They're first date was to the movies to see Jurassic Park, now everytime another one is made they make it a date to go see it together.

Season 5 should've resolved the previous plotlines, not introduced new ones

Season 5 should've focused on the actual main characters, not a bunch of new ones

Season 5 should've had the apocalyptic theme they left off season 4 in, not just covering the upside down with metal bars and call it a day

Season 5 should've had the core four be together, not being seperated again

Season 5 should've given Jane independence, not making her entirely dependant on men like she had always been and not even making her last moments about herself.

Season 5 should've developed Steve and Nancys platonic bond, not forcing Steves romantic feelings again

Season 5 should've either bought Will and Mike together or fixed Mike and Jane, not just ignoring their problems and leaving it ambigious if they were dating to queerbait us

Season 5 should've given Will a love interest, not an imaginary epilogue boyfriend

Season 5 should've focused on Mike and Nancy, not Holly

Season 5 should've created new iconic moments, not try to recreate prior seasons iconic moments (and fail)

Season 5 should've given Lucas his own arc, not just make him Max' boyfriend

Season 5 should've made Erica a main character, not sideline her give her a total of 15 minutes screentime

Season 5 should've made the painting pay off, not just abandoning it yet still putting it in the epilogue

Season 5 should've focused on being its own thing, not just nostalgiabait

Season 5 should've been for the outcasts and freaks, not the tiktok fans who probably forgot about the show until the trailer came out

just realized that i can make lucas' possession in dead weight pt 2 an extended metaphor for his denial of queerness & feelings for dustin :D and by that i mean his active refusal to look at it, because that is not who he is! he's been fucked over and isolated, and that's why he needs to be around dustin all the time. anything otherwise would be against who he is, against what he wants, and he does NOT want dustin. he doesn't. he can't. that's not him!!! it's something else making him feel like he does!!!

and then when he's clear-headed, himself again, no flayer particles in sight...what does it mean that none of those desires have gone away? does he really know himself at all? or did that monstrous, self-destructive force controlling his emotions successfully convince him that those feelings were monstrous and evil and unlike him, too? he isn't possessed, and he still loves dustin. oh. he loves dustin :)

Henclair, Byler, and Elmax was the best endgame. being for "the weirdos" doesn't mean having three queer characters, it means having a diverse cast which stranger things fails to have. if you aren't "a weirdo" you should NOT be the target audience. this show should not cater to you, it should cater to the queer, POC, disabled people, which is who it was supposed to be for. :) i genuinely believe that the entire core 6 were queer to some capacity.

Remember how Dustin said this in S1?

And then he was fully ready to lose his teeth so Mike wouldn't jump off a damn cliff? And Mike did anyway?

And then he said THIS in S2, unprompted?

And then in S3 he came home from camp and no one responded to his radio, and his mom said maybe they forgot and he started to believe her?

And then it turned out it wasn't actually a lapse of memory, they were just lying to give him a surprise welcome party? But then they ditched him anyway at the end of the day, because they thought he was lying about his camp girlfriend? A thought implanted by MAX, Lucas's girlfriend that Dustin said Lucas wanted to replace him in the Party, and that everyone went along with. Mike wasn't even there because he was too busy focusing on spending time with El.

And how Will asked Mike where Dustin was, and Mike couldn't answer? And Will said "See? You don't know, and you don't even care, and obviously he doesn't either and I don't blame him"?

Dustin is always willing to believe that he is the least important friend to his friends. Always the one people will miss the least, care the least. And sometimes the show even proved him right.

For once, I just wanted him to say it out loud. I wanted him to actually distance himself from the Party, and focus on Steve or Erica or Robin or maybe the Hellfire group. And when anyone from the Party confronted him on why he was being so distanced, he just said "why do you care? No one ever cares about what I'm doing anyway. I'm just focusing on people who do."
