The way people are treating cass vs the way they treated varian when he switched sides even though Cassandra hasnât really done anything but take the moonstone and leave seems pretty iffy to me
Itâs because people hate female characters that arenât perfect and who are snarky, realistic, and sometimes make bad decisions but they would love them if they were a guy. Case and point? The people who love V.rian but despise Cass.
Itâs a bad look
Yeah, nah, people love her, or at least did until know.
I think itâs mostly based in the fact that Varian was an unstable teenager who had just lost his father and everyone just saw him as a poor boy, who was just desperate.
On the other hand Cassandra is an adult and has always been portrayed as a strong person and a supportive friend. People donât understand the pain sheâs been in, because âoh well, Rapunzel was the one who was actually kidnappedâ. People âdespiseâ her, as you called it, because it is expected of so called *strong* people to act so and showing weakness, or loosing their composure, showing that they have these feelings and letting these emotions get to them is seen as a fault because âoh well but theyâre so strong, they should have known better.
The other problem is that what happened to Varian *just* happened, on screen, while Cassandraâs pain was old, and her frustration with being overlooked was seen as minor and not that important, even though it was a constant state state she had lived in.
So no, I donât think it has anything to do with gender, sexism or whatever, but rather with human behaviour and how people tend to treat so called âstrongâ people when they finally break down as opposed to those who are openly and visibly more volunerable, as well as the fact that she is an adult and is expected to be more rational. And then thereâs also the fact that people donât understand her pain and like to compare it to anyone else in the show with âokay but âso and soâ had it worseâ, even though what sheâs been through traumatic and the pressure sheâs been under all these years mustâve been incredibly painful to deal with.

People who have only seen the Netflix version of A Series of Unfortunate Events: Maybe Olaf wasnât so evil after all? Maybe all his crimes were the result of his own misfortunes? Maybe he was just like the Baudelaires and did what he had to in order to survive and tried to save the ones he loved? What if deep inside he was actually good? Maybe his death was a tragedy and he could have redeemed himself?Â

YES. It is also one of the things I didnât like about The End, and I find it terribly odd when I found myself to sympathize with Count Olaf??? NPHâs Count Olaf fail in being menacing, in being clearly evil. I mean, come on, he was suggesting child marriage in The Bad Beginning??? On top of being abusive??? Damn he is messed up from the start. I didnât feel comfortable watching myself watching this hahahaha.
I completely agree. Sunnyâs âYuckâ when he kisses Kit seemed too self aware...
I think think they wanted to make another Snape out of him when that was clearly not the point. I didnât feel comfortable either haha. When reading the books I was relieved it was over, but here a small part of me sympathised with him?
Jim Carrey was honestly the one part that 2004 film got right. He was Olaf, while NPH was still NPH.
