reaction: Youkai Watch episode 77
[spoilers alert!] Finally! Season two (or to put it in the official way, “the storyline that’s kinda like season two”) started. This episode introduces the another protagonist, Inaho, and her companion youkai USA-pyon. I haven’t read the manga version so I can’t do comparisons or anything; but I really enjoyed the anime and I can’t wait for what is going to happen next. In the trailer Inaho looked like one of these characters who say a lot of internet languages and memes out loud, but it wasn’t too awkward and I liked her interactions with USA-pyon. USA-pyon was really cute too, he’s hardworking and the way he decided to make the scientist’s dream come true was moving. I wonder what it’s like after Inaho meets Keita though. Keita represents an ordinary boy, and the whole season of the anime Youkai Watch was about showing small aru-aru neta (the things a lot of kids can relate to) and making it into a youkai’s fault. I heard that the games are going to be sold in other countries but I don’t think the anime’s going to be a hit since the jokes are simply too local. I lived in Japan for my whole life but even I can’t relate sometimes because I never went to a Japanese elementary school. So sad. Ahem, back to Inaho and Keita. Inaho isn’t really normal, she is a sci-fi otaku that lost her interest on USA-pyon after learning that he wasn’t from space (I mean come on! There’s a mysterious monster in your room!), but she has this weird thing where she talks to herself with a lot of meta-references…like saying that the situation she is in happens a lot in mangas and stuff. Although it’s going to be a different way with Keita, Inaho can still address the aru-aru neta too. It’s just that it’s hard to imagine having them together dealing one youkai together. I’m sure that it’s going to turn out interesting though. Well, for a while, I guess Inaho and USA-pyon is going to focus on making the rocket. How are they going to manage that? What kind of new youkais will they meet? (p.s. Fun fact: USA-pyon is not a rabbit. )
I was bored enough to make a new Twitter account just to post this last year holiday season
reaction: Pokemon XY episode 80
[spoilers alert!] This week’s episode is Serena’s second Pokemon Showcase challenge. Okay, before I write anything else, I have to be honest and say that it was a little disappointing to me. I don’t want to criticize much on my first ever anime reaction post on tumblr, I really really do love anipoke, but this episode left me with a lot of mixed feelings. In a nutshell, Serena has an accident and gets her dress ripped; but remembering her past mistake and Ash’s way of never giving up, she thinks up of cutting her dress shorter and performs, overcoming that challenge. In the end, Serena gets a lot of votes and wins her first Princess Key. I liked how Serena didn’t stop after the accident and thought of a solution quickly. She really grew from her last Showcase challenge when she couldn’t follow up after Fennekin tripped and fell. But the thing that bothered me is this: the act of cutting her dress should have been a reason not to lose, not a reason why she would win. Other performers did great too - Jessie’s performance was unique and fun, and Miette’s was really similar to Serena’s. I don’t get why Serena would have gotten twice as much votes as other people. The audience didn’t see how she overcame her past challenges, so I think it would have been better if Serena actually fell during her performance like last time but did something more to make up her mistakes. I’m not the one making anipoke though. I just wanted more scenes of Serena practicing, failing, and not giving up so that I could relate more to Serena and congratulate her fully when she wins. Depsite its importance in the story, I felt that the episode was kind of weak - but oh well, it’s still a good one, and I can’t wait for next week too. Thanks for reading and bye! (p.s. Miette is really really cute when she’s teasing Serena in this episode. It’s making me think if Miette’s target is actually Serena not Ash lol.)
