As a lifelong Oregonian, I am deeply opposed to Trump plans to maximize logging on 2.5 million acres for profit. A billion board feet annually is not management or leadership. It is a violation of Oregon's natural heritage, clean water, climate defense, and Indigenous Rights.
This policy is a retreat to 1960s-era "maximum harvest" targets that prioritize short-term profit over the long-term health of our state. We need to move forward toward forest resilience, not be dragged back into the divisive timber wars of the past.
Beyond the timber volume, this plan threatens the clean water our communities rely on and ignores the sovereign rights of the Indigenous Tribes who have stewarded these ancestral lands for millennia.
True sustainability means protecting the complex ecosystems and carbon-rich ancient stands that are our best defense against climate change. Ensuring that Oregon's future is not sacrificed for a temporary payout is the only way forward. We have only 19 days to make our voices heard before the March 23 deadline to stop this "maximum logging" revision of Oregon's forest management plans. Please contact the Bureau of Land Management and our federal representatives to demand they protect our water and our heritage. https://morethanjustparks.substack.com/p/blm-announces-plan-to-fell-oregons
