I miss Purple Hyacinth...
taking bella and shaking her by the shoulders. you legally have to tell me if you knew dylan and cared about him too. you legally have to drop the facade you always wear and tell me if dylan irrevocably changed your life too. the law says you have to disclose any presumed connection to dylan rosenthal
dylan and bella connection untapped potential for real. my theory is that the scythe was training him to be a doctor- or he just taught himself like guerrilla medicine and helped keep kieran alive. dylan did you ever help bella you have to tell me
re-read the entirety of purple hyacinth in two days.
i am not immune to pretty men.
Relationship development
I just needed to save the illustration for the fiction so the link would work. :)
And if anyone is interested in that one, here is a link to it too.

does anyone else see my lauren&will / kieran&bella parallels agenda. like. kieran and bella you could be so much if just everything was different.
Hi I've had this thing in my drafts for a while im just getting it out
As we know Purple Hyacinth is based on class struggle, tho I'd like to explore other forms of oppression as well, because well they're all intertwined, and I think gender based violence and oppression is really interesting to analyze in PH and just in general important to take into account when enjoying art
Also I'm due a reread and this is just very half-assed so if you have something you wanna add DO IT
Women don't really seem to face the level of the discrimination and violence women face in real life. But we know that with class structured society comes a lot of issues for women, for example being the protelariat of the protelariat (being the exploited class to distract the exploited class) tho PH doesn't really address this.
We know Lauren's mom was a Lawyer, Lauren, Kym and Lila are by all accounts part of the working class and we've also seen female doctors and female entrepreneurs(? you know Elvira the owner of the glass factory, so women can own private property.
Also there's no need for a sufragist movement because they live in a monarchy (I don't remember if it was a consitutional, parlamentary or absolute monarchy). If anything it'd be really interesting to see an anti-monarchy movement.
But I wouldn't say that poor women live the same easy lives as the upper class women, these women probably are stay at home mums, doing unpaid labor ontop of working a shift without any kind of labor protections, with poor access to reproductive healthcare and just care in general.
For example, regularly, poorer women (also specially WOC beacause class and race are intertwined) have higher mortality rates during childbirth because of bad health services. Therefore there are stillstruggles that women in Ardhalis may experience that are unique to them because of their gender and class, but beacause of Lauren's privilegded vantage point of view we may never get to know.
BUT ALSOOOOOOOOOOOO
It's pretty minor, but Herman and March automatically asume Lune to be a man. And I know the male pronoun can be used "neutrally" but I would asume that both of them having female colleagues and specially knowing how capable they are (Lauren ofc Im talking about her i love herr) could understand that maybe a woman is also capable of such good investigation. Also Lauren decides to keep Lune as two men to take advantage of the sexist assumption that Lune's a man and avoid suspicion falling on her (she's a really smart cookie).
ALSOO these are points I haven't given much thought but I HAVE to get out of my head
I had another post that's about sexuality but mainly here we can see that women are expected to date and get married, it hasn't been explicitly stated but possibly also bring children. Point A, first episode is literally Lauren on a date. Point B, Neyra's whole subplot, which also brings to attention Will's and maybe the fact that in Ardhalis gender expectations are a bit more equal. idkk
Bella is interesting because she is on first glance the architype of a femme fatale, using her body to seduce and obtain what she needs. I think Kym also points out that female serial killers tend to use poisons rather than physical force is very interesting.
THE QUEEN IS ALSO SO VERY INTERESTING, she is in this position of power and uses it to amplify or heighten the class disparities. This contrasts the steriotype that women are more compassionate and resonable, because let me tell you If my kingdom was dying of hunger, If my people were dying like dogs out on the street, I'm doing whatever I can to better the people's lives
That´s all I have for now

Kieran: A Feast for the Eyes
Anyways let’s make that last post actually meaningful. Guilt is one of Lauren and Kieran’s defining character traits, both of them are driven by their past and what they think are their personal failings. Lauren definitely feels more survivors guilt, she think she sent Dylan off to his death and she feels partially responsible for the Allendale bombing because she didn’t speak up when she knew something was wrong. Kieran’s guilt comes from his direct part in the death of others as his role as an assassin, and also how he sees any connection that he makes as selfish and putting that person in danger.
I think season 4 is going to take that mutual feeling of guilt Nuclear. Whatever the Scythe is able to get Kieran to do to ensure Lauren’s safety will just affirm how he sees himself as a danger to anyone around him, and whatever blood is spilled to keep Lauren safe will further compound her survivors guilt as well as the guilt of forcing Kieran to sacrifice the morality that he’s been reclaiming in order to keep her safe.
anyways i hope there’s like 50 panels of them just having the worst time of their lives im so excited
PH Fandom: We love our children. We must protect them at all costs
Also, PH Fandom: LET THEM SUFFER!
(I'm no different)

lauren sinclair the character of all time. yeah girl that terrorist attack that happened when you were 12 was absolutely your fault you totally could’ve changed the course of history, everyone would’ve heeded the warnings of a 12 year old little girl but no you were whimsymaxxing and too joypilled. <- what i imagine she says in the mirror every morning
All sides of Lauki
Shirtless Kieran sold for 5,000 USD this morning. Fifteen year old me is rabid on the ground witnessing this play out.
Kym was on the verge of defeat when the explanation hit her.
She shut the binder she was holding, closing her eyes and leaning her weight on the dusty wood of the shelf. Figured.
It was almost funny, really, how well everything fit together when she thought about it. The conclusion of all the evidence she had and the analysis she had done was bright and clear, unlike the room, which seemed to have been cast in shadow.
She'd never wanted it to be this way.
She slumped slowly as the weariness hit her. What a world.
"Officer, whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-"
Kym yelped at the tap on her shoulder, jumping about a foot high from her slump, flailing her arms for all she was worth. One windmill struck directly at the papers in Kieran White's grasp, which tumbled end over end in every direction, which would have been only a minor disaster if not for the fact that the other windmill, holding her binder, had struck directly at the haphazard tower of paperwork she'd pulled out of those bookshelves, which swayed dramatically, first one way and then the other, before falling as a mass just shy of Kieran, who executed a superb dodge to avoid most of the collapse, except for one book which somersaulted out of the pile to land squarely on his head, in sharp contrast to the huge cloud of dust billowing out from what seemed like every inch of the room.
Kym, breathing heavily, couldn't bring herself to apologize despite the hours she'd probably added to his work day. She reached an arm out to pull him to his feet in a flurry of coughs.
He must have seen the extent of despair in her expression, because he only asked, "Is something wrong?"
Perceptive man, and emotionally aware too. She couldn't even begin to explain the avalanche of deductions that broke her down, however, so she just shrugged and said, doleful, "The raccoons got into the precinct watermelon stash and took a bite out of all my watermelons. I just figured out that the person who let them in was… Lauren."
Which is how the 11th Precinct came to break a number of records: first precinct to hold a formal duel in three hundred years, first precinct to have a proxy step in for a duel in case of absence (Detective Sinclair having absconded after the raccoons), first precinct to have a duel fought over the sanctity of watermelon, first precinct to log watermelon-related self-inflicted injuries (Lieutenant Hawkes, on both the giving and receiving side of a facepalm), first precinct to be overrun with raccoons twice in one day, and first precinct to settle a conflict in the form of a watermelon-eating contest (Kym won, of course.)
[this is probably super tonally inconsistent but i like it and so it goes up. it may also end up on ao3 at some point. anyway this is part of a sprawling crackfic in my head in which kym ladell solves every single problem in ardhalis through the power of watermelons. and in case it wasn't clear, kieran bravely stepped in in place of lauren to face the music, or the watermelon, as the case may be.]
