This video hit a little too close to home for one of our system members. And I’ll get to why in a bit on this post. But basically, we probably won’t rewatch it for that reason, and thus won’t be able to make as comprehensive a reaction post as I like to be able to do.
That said, let’s jump into it.
Patton was a mess. Though it was accidental, he was really pressuring Thomas and guilting him. And really making no sense for a good portion of it. Not to mention, he was really dismissive of who he thought to be Logan in the beginning. Whether or not that was actually Logan giving facts, that was not how you’re supposed to treat someone who is trying to help you sort out your issue. Cutting down a lot of his attempts to give valuable and helpful information. I think Roman is guilty of this a few times too, but I could be remembering that wrong.
We finally got acknowledgement of Roman’s issues, and for once, they’re taken seriously, and he is being given validation that he is a loved member of the team.
Patton turned into a literal game version of a frog because he got so upset. And the real Logan steps in to save the day again. He also makes a remark noting and calling them all out for not caring about if he was okay once they knew it wasn’t him originally talking to them.
After that is handled, Deceit acknowledges, first out of anyone yet, the sacrifice that Roman had to make to make the others happy in the first part of this two parter. No one before this seems to even have cared about this, but Deceit acknowledges this and basically gives him kudos because holy shit that had to be hard, and that deserved some fuckin credit.
What I most want to touch on, though? The name reveal. This is around where we switched out. Roman not only insists to pile insults of “Evil!” and things of the like over and over, he laughs at his name, the same way he did with Virgil.
Now I get not wanting to trust him, but being sad isn’t an excuse to make fun of something he clearly wanted to use as an olive branch for peace. I don’t fully know how I feel about his character right now, because I was really rooting for him. And then he did that.
Do I hate Roman the Canon Character? No. Do I want him to get some real help from the others, a real talk about his problems right now? Yes. Do I think it was called for to spit on Deceits very real attempt to foster a truce, some peace? Absolutely fuckin not.
As much as I’ve said he hasn’t needed to apologize for a lot of things, this is one thing he does have to apologize for.
And while I get that people say things when they’ve been hurt, I think that Janus also needs to apologize for picking at him by comparing him to Remus.
Both fucked up there. They both need to apologize.
But to end on a hopefully more positive note, it is good to see Patton trying to find a friendship where he was afraid of Janus before, trying to get him to go away. That’s reassuring at least. Same with Thomas.
I wasn’t expecting an Acceptance video when we saw that in our subscriptions, but riddled with the mess that it was, I’m really glad we got it.
Last but not least, a gentle pleading to anyone who will hear me out, please try to be mindful not to fall into black and white thinking, and please try to be courteous of each other. Not everyone will share your opinion, and that is okay.
