it really bugs me that half the comments I see on a lot of posts supporting hudson williams in the wake of this weekend's paparazzi situation are some variant of "well none of you stood up for chappell roan in the same situation." it just feels...really disingenuous to me? because yes, chappell got a ton of completely unfair hate too, but she did have a lot of people standing up for her as well, and a lot of the people getting these comments were folks defending her then just as hard as they're defending hudson now.
like...both of them have received a lot of undue hate and heightened scrutiny, and constantly bringing her up in this context feels like gross whataboutism trying to deflect the discussion from people's real concerns about the racist abuse hudson has endured by pitting his suffering vs. that of a white woman like it's some kind of fucked up competition.
not saying you can't care about both. in fact I'm saying the opposite; you SHOULD care about both. but maybe read the room and think about if you're actually adding any nuance to a conversation about how unfairly tabloid media treats queer people, women, and people of color, or if you're derailing the conversation because you don't want to acknowledge that hudson is a victim of these assholes too.
