Model and Make-up artist Hamel Patel decided recently to do what countless girls have done over the years, play dress-up and recreate Disney Princesses.
Hamel is from North Carolina, but she pays homage to her family heritage by reinterpreting classic characters such as Snow White and Cinderella in a classic Indian style. Famous for its colours, flowing dresses and ornate jewelry, Indian fashion perfectly complements the fantasy and imagination of the Disney princess.

What the fuck is an Islamic beard
This is why I’m afraid when Navin has a beard. His mom and sister and I keep trying to get him to shave it. I think he looks amazing with a beard, but I’m more afraid of some racist/Islamophobe targeting him because of it.
Things got pretty hectic for a while. Arya wasn’t gaining as much as our pediatrician would have liked, so we went to the hospital to see if there was some underlying issue. She’s absolutely fine, but is a tiny baby and a picky eater. So we’re on a pretty strict schedule to make sure she gets enough volume.
She’s been sleeping through the night, which is great. She’s pretty content, though in the last day or so, I’ve noticed that she gets wildly upset when she realizes I’ve left the room. She also likes chewing on literally everything, especially fabric, and she is desperate to crawl.
I had been trying to go to yoga at least once a week, but my dad’s been working more so I don’t have a babysitter to watch her for the 2 hours I’d be gone. And she’s not old enough for the daycare at the gym. I was going to cancel my membership (why do gyms make you go through ridiculous hoops to cancel memberships? I have to write to the gym manager in order to cancel/suspend my account... even though they are a national company and have a website. WTF?), but forgot to do this while we were in the hospital. I’m hoping they will refund us the last payment since I will not be using it (and didn’t use it at all last month), but who knows.
Also, Navin stepped on my computer and the screen is jacked, so I’ve had to hook it up to an external monitor in order to use it. My ipad is slow and old, and my iphone touchscreen hasn’t been working properly since October, so getting online has been a trial. I’m waiting to get the screen fixed until we have a bit more money put away and the next major purchases bought (highchair, next carseat).
There’s a lot of crap going on, but husband and I are healthy, Arya is healthy, and we are all happy.
Arya hasn’t been eating well, and she dropped very minutely on her curve. Our pediatrician recommended that we increase her caloric intake (by 2 calories per meal), which means that we had to go back to powder formula so that we can measure everything out correctly. We had been using ready-to-feed since that’s been the type of formula Arya prefers (because she’s picky picky picky).
She wouldn’t eat the powdered formula mix, so the dr recommended that we try formula concentrate (that is liquid that is mixed with water) and gave us the recipe of water-to-formula ratios. Well, of course, the only liquid concentrate I could find in our entire hometown is at ONE store-- no other store sells it. So I stockpiled that stuff, only to realize that I didn’t have a container big enough for the mixed product (which needs to be at least 26oz). My dad asked the nurse at the hospital (my mom was in the hospital all last week due to severe asthma that wasn’t going away) where we could get some of the water bottles they have there (which have measurements on them an go up to 32oz) and she gave them two bottles for free.
But after two amazing days of eating, Arya is back to being a picky eater. Today she has been terrible.
I mentioned on FB a while ago that I woke Arya up to eat and she wouldn’t go back to sleep and someone commented that “babies will wake up when they’re hungry, don’t worry about it.” Not with Arya. She will sometimes cry and scream if she’s very, very hungry, but there are times when I HAVE to wake her up to eat or stop her playing because she just seems to ignore her hunger.
I’m so worried about all of this. I honestly put up a really good front, but I am deteriorating into a ball of anxiety. I just want my baby girl to eat and be healthy and be strong. She’s such a bright, inquisitive, happy little girl.
I’m going to bring up weaning foods at her doctor appointment tomorrow, because she DOES seem interested when N and I eat in front of her. She watches it very intensely, so maybe part of this is her wanting to get more variety?

And before someone says “they’re just keeping the criminals out!1!”, lawyers who were able to consult some of the people detained did not have a criminal record. There have also been reports of officers trailing kids walking home from school to lead to their parents. These officers DO NOT. HAVE. THE RIGHT. TO DETAIN PEOPLE. WITHOUT. A WARRANT.

I told you the Muslims were the first step. They’re coming after Latinos with no criminal records in their own homes now. Three minutes from my house they detained over 100 people yesterday and literally dragged them out of their houses. They are pulling drivers over on the streets asking for papers. They are following school buses home and arresting parents when they meet the children at the stops. They’re not releasing the names of anyone they have apprehended. They’re not answering any questions from journalists/CHIRLA/the public or giving reasons as to why they’re detaining people without access to immigration attorneys. ICE has gone rogue and it seems to be in retaliation for the 9th circuit ruling against the Muslim Ban. It was clear that the Justice Department was losing during arguments on Tuesday and about 24 hours later random raids all across the country started happening? Not a coincidence.
Meanwhile on Twitter, Republicans are challenging each other to see who can report more “illegal looking people” to the ICE tip line. There are accounts proudly boasting their report tallies and encouraging more to follow suit. Others are saying they reported their neighbors or friends of friends. Any resemblance to Nazi Germany is not unintentional. Be safe out there. We’ve waded into very dangerous territory.
