GT: *Lo and behold, there is a tip tap tapping at Aranea's chamber door - Whoever could it be?*
AG: *Opens it carefully. Really, who could it 8e?*
GT: *There's no vocal answer, so Jake just sort of wanders away again at first feeling a bit silly until he hears the door behind him and quickly turns* Oh, miss serket! Im terribly sorry, im not bothering you am i?
GT: I can clear off again if youd prefer!
AG: No, not at all! Would you like to come in?
GT: *Actually thinks this one through for once* Oh no, thats alright! I thought since it was such a nice night and all, we could begin our cultural exchange up on deck!
AG: *face 8rightens* Oh, yes, certainly! *closes the door 8ehind her and follows him*
GT: *He produces a pen and notepad from his pocket, gesturing with them as he climbs the stairs* Im all set and ready to learn as much as possible!
GT: Though i must confess its going to take it all a while to settle properly in the old noggin.
GT: More of a kinesthetic learner, you see.
AG: *8rings out her UPad; a8out time she used it again* The same! Although I studied your species while I was in the dream8u88les, there is always something new to a8sor8!
AG: *Kin...es....thetic....learner?* That's...splendid!
GT: *Listening carefully enough to hear the pause and seeing it as the perfect chance to show off some human knowledge he nods* Quite! It means i learn best by performing the action, as opposed to reading it written down or seen as a picture, which is visual learning-
GT: Or hearing it, which is known as auditory! My grandmama told me all this when she was my sole tutor.
AG: That's very admira8le of her! *How the heckie am I going to teach you kinesthetically without seeming weird????????*
GT: Hmm. But never fear! Although i learnt to shoot and things better by doing, thats exactly what the ol pencil and blotter are for!
GT: I am determined to take extensive notes and study them most diligently.
AG: *lifts her trusty UPad* As am I!
AG: I am always willing to garner inform8ion, and especially those from an original source!
GT: *Theyve arrived up on deck now, and pausing to look out over the water for a moment he then beckons her to sit on the steps that lead up to the helm* How grand! This is an excellent opportunity then.
GT: For us both!
AG: *While Jake looks over the w8r, she glances up at the moons and the distant Earth 2 in the sky. Plops down on those steps* A8solutely. Who shall go first?
GT: *Flips through to an empty page, resting the pencil against his chin* Well, if you dont mind there is one area of interest that i might like to look at first! Its a little specific to my own current situation, actually.
AG: 8y all means, continue!
GT: The thing is, eridan has asked me, in his way, if i might auspitpat-what have you between him and my friend callie. I take it theyre in one of those hate snog scenarios? Anyway.
GT: I want very much to help, as theyre both my chums and while getting on with their loathery is all well and good, i dont either of them really hurt!
AG: *Eye8rows disappear into her hairline. This is NEW.*
GT: *Does this count as gossip who knoooows he sure doesn't* But then the problem becomes that i havent really the foggiest what that might entail!
GT: Its something to do with grey? Do i make the black less black??
GT: Really, im stumped.
AG: Firstly, if they are in a caliginous rel8ionship, you must understand that in a kismesissitude, one does not hurt the quadrantm8 to the point of permanent injury. Take it as your human love 8ut at a more...violent scale without the prospect of actually dying.
GT: *nods whilst furiously taking notes* I see...
AG: In a 8lackrom the individuals still care for each other very much, regardless of outward appearances.
GT: *Makes a "huh!" face as he draws a heart and underlines it*
AG: Woah woah woah woah woah woah woah woah! It's not a m8spirtship, however. I guess the easiest way to explain is seeing it as a rivalry coupled with attraction. One kismesis should not h8 more than the other, otherwise the rel8ionship collapses. That is where you come in if you were willing to take the role as an auspistice.
GT: Oh! Not like amor then... *pauses with his pen over the paper before shading the symbol in and writing 'rivalry with smooches' very small underneath it where she won't be able to see* So its supposed to be entirely equal?
AG: *She can read minds though. Sorry Jake, you can't ninja your way out of this one.*
AG: You would 8e correct on 8oth accounts. ::::)
AG: If you wish to pursue auspisticism, your jo8 would 8e to ensure that a certain 8alance remains 8etween the two. You would 8asically act as a mediator only if the rel8ionship were to cross into a du8ious territory where life or the rel8ionship itself is thre8ned. Like in a moirallegiance, an auspisticism contains no intent to reproduce.
GT: *Shit.* Oh, right you, yes. Ahaha... *coughs, about to get himself together when she says the 'r' word* Wh- Well naturally! I mean i knew that part at least i would never i mean its simply... Oh dear. Uh, go over the balance part again, perhaps?
GT: How might this be achieved?
AG: This 8alance is important in that if it is not sustained at a neutral level, the rel8ionship will disrupt. An example you may know well is that of Orphaner Dualscar and Marquise Spinneret Mindfang. Without an auspistice, Dualscar's jealousy and h8 exceeded that of Mindfang's and their rel8ionship crum8led.
AG: 8asically, it is the auspistice's call whether or not he or she 8elieves that he or she should intervene.
AG: This is why auspisticism is still considered a grey area to most trolls. There isn't a specific guide8ook or set of rules to follow. One must 8e willing to 8e o8servant and patient in this quadrant.
GT: Oh goodness... Thats quite a lot of responsibility then! Im not even sure if id have the expertise to do it, let alone the smarts!
GT: I do want to help though, of course i do!
GT: And i suppose my fear always was that poor callie might not yet have it in her to engage in the whole total nemeses thing - shes such a kind girl, i dont think id believe her capable of hate if eridan hadnt told me!
AG: You seem like the perfect person for the jo8! At the very least you're interested in volunteering to 8e an auspistice. Not many in caliginous rel8ionships have an auspistice to thank.
GT: Haha, when you put it that way... You honestly think i should give it a go?
AG: Of course I do! There is no reason why you shouldn't. You seem capa8le as well as caring, and I 8elieve that with those qualities, even a first-time auspistice will perform admira8ly.
GT: Aw gee, thank you kindly. I shall do my very best not to let them or your good self down!
GT: Not that its a done deal of course! I wanted to ask you first before i spoke to callie myself.
GT: Is there any protocol for such a proposal? How formal do i need to be?
GT: Should i maybe write it as a proper letter instead?
AG: I'm sure a ver8al response to Eridan's request will suffice. It doesn't require a letter of commitment, just a simple, "I will 8e your auspistice."
GT: *whacks one fist into his other palm, almost dropping the notepad off his lap* Very well then! Ill get on that asap.
AG: Hahahaha! I like your enthusiasm!
GT: Im told its one of my better traits, heh.
AG: Well, you're certainly going to need it for for your new jo8!
GT: Ha, youre telling me! Regardless, id say ive gotten that all ready for processing! Say though, while were on the subject... Perhaps we could go over the other one im less sure of a little more?
GT: The uh, allegiance one? Im rather fuzzy where thats concerned too.
AG: Oh, yes! Moirallegiance! It is not rel8d to reproduction, and focuses on the opposite end of the rel8ionship spectrum towards pity, or in human words "love," just as auspisticism is rel8d to h8.
AG: I guess when thinking a8out it, moirails also medi8, 8ut it more of protecting their partner from destructive 8ehavior.
GT: *Draws another heart, this time with a line around it like a wall or a barrier*
AG: *Wh8ver floats his 8oat*
GT: Destructive behaviour, you say? You mean towards others?
AG: Towards others, towards themselves. Whichever is needed. Moirails, in a sense, watch over each other and guard psychological well-8eing rather than physical well-8eing, which is more along the lines of what auspistices do.
GT: *Frowns slightly before adding a crude representation of a brain to his notes* A sort of counselor, so to speak?
GT: But still with a degree of friendship and good spirit shared between the two parties?
AG: I suppose that's another way to put it, yes.
AG: In a way, moirails are guardians of their partner's heart, protecting them from harm whether it 8e 8y their hand or others.
GT: *Taps his pencil on paper thoughtfully after writing all that down* My, that does sound rather special.
GT: I can see why roxy and jane werent adverse to the notion!
AG: Like all rel8ionships, it is a responsi8ility! Pro8a8ly one of the more important ones, to 8e honest. Some trolls have prevented self-destructive 8ehavior and even halted mass murders 8y simply pacifying their moirail.
GT: *mouth falls a little open as he contemplates such heroism* By the power of greyskull!
GT: That really is an important task!
GT: Do all trolls need something like that? Or uh, perhaps want one, i should say.
AG: Not all need them. Not all want them. It really depends on the troll.
GT: Do you have one?
AG: Well, no, 8ut it's understanda8le.
GT: Really? How so?
GT: Uh, if thats not too personal a question!
AG: *Come on, Jake, even you can figure that out if you think a8out it.*
GT: *Yes, but he'd like to hear it from her - He just wants to understaaaaaaaand*
AG: It's just........I tend to talk a8out myself a 8it too much for anyone's liking. *considers this for a moment* ........I tend to talk a lot, period.
AG: *mutters* Not to mention that people are still displeased with what happened when the wave of insanity struck the high8loods.
GT: *Gee, talking to excess about oneself to the detriment of others, that sounds sadly familiar. At the second part however he perks up again* By jove, are they really? Well its not like theres much you can do about having been manipulated against your will, is it?
GT: Vriska came after karkat and i and were still on good terms; perhaps its not all as bad as it seems?
AG: *Doesn't have the heart to tell him that it's mainly Dirk that's ja88ing her a8out it, thought his reasons might have changed 8y now. He's not in the vicinity where she can find out, which in retrospect, was pro8a8ly for the 8est.* I did hurt a lot of people, though.
AG: A lot of /us/, you know.
AG: *Dude, Jaaaaaaaake, I can read feeeeeeeelings. And I don't even need that to see how Rufioh flinches ever so slightly when I talk to him.*
GT: *HE CAN'T HELP 1T MAN i mean* *He folds his notes away to look down at his steepled fingers* Ah... You mean your lot?
GT: I can see why that might be an issue.
GT: But surely that is precisely why you are in direst need of one! To ensure no such thing happens again!
AG: Jake, I-- *clears her throat and looks down at her hands* I hurt Meenah, too. If my m8sprit wasn't spared 8y wh8ver was inside my head, I don't think a moirail would have 8een either.
GT: *That sure does stump him for a while, but eventually he ventures:* Well... If she was the heart, in a manner of speaking, and then as you put it a moirail is the thing that guards it... *He trails off, waving his hands in a defeated gesture* Gah, metaphors! But i think you know what i mean?
GT: At the end of the day, i wouldnt give up hope! *can't help but smile a little at the pun, what a silly billy* What with all the nonsense we go through, im sure were all developing short memories.
AG: Yes, I see what you mean. You do make a good point. I suppose a way to clarify is that those in the desatur8d quadrants do what they must to protect those they care a8out. *stares at him for a moment as he says the pun and laughs a little after he is done speaking* I only hope it doesn't come to pass as with Horuss.
GT: *Nods along still in deep englishy thought until she laughs* Whats this about horace?
AG: Er, I don't mean to say that m8sprits and kismeses don't care a8out their quadrantm8s, 8ut just that pale and ashen have a duty to look out for one another.
AG: Horuss lost all memory of past events. From the point of our resurrection up until a couple weeks ago, his recall has 8een stripped completely.
AG: He doesn't even remem8er when- *-when we made dirt trolls in a field and leveled a forest.* Well, point is, he doesn't remem8er.
GT: Jupiter's beard, nothing??
GT: Not even jade?
AG: *Sighs silently and slowly shakes her head.* ::::(
GT: *Runs a hand over his face* Oh no... I dont even suppose she knows.
GT: How ruddy awful.
GT: Ill try and talk to her soon, make sure shes alright.
AG: Yes, I think she would rather hear it from you than Horuss when he sees an unrecogniza8le handle and decides to, you know.
GT: Oh god. Yes, yes you're right.
GT: *He stands up, sighing deeply before offering a hand to help her up too* If youll excuse me, i think i better ought do that now.
GT: My first duty is to my family, after all.
AG: Thank you. *takes dat hand* Oh yes, of course, 8y all means!
AG: I hope the news won't devast8 her too 8adly.
GT: No, im sure shell be fine, in time. Shes a tough little soldier! But thank you, and for the lesson too!
AG: It was honestly no pro8lem and entirely my pleasure. I look forward to continuing this at a l8r d8 if you have further questions.
GT: As do i! And i most certainly do! *does a little bow before attempting another smile and marching away to retrieve his phone* Until then, good night aranea!
AG: *Lets out a short laugh and 8ows her head, returning a small curtsy.* Good night, Jake!

CT: 8=D < *spurrprance #axidenstall catpuns
AG: It certainly seems that way. Why is it only a few are affected 8y this? I suppose our situ8ion is one where we must w8 for answers to 8e given.
CT: 8=D < Nhoofing we can do to change it now. My apologies fur the voided memories, by the neigh. I do realize it must be somewhat disheartening, starting ofur, as it were.

AG: Sorry, there was a nice 8ark8east at the door.
AT: ahaha... no b1gg1e.
AG: Er........I'm not sure.
AG: I don't think she has?
AT: thought not... because some random guard came 1nto my room, told me he was there for that... then he attacked me!
AG: Oh my goodness! Is everything all right?
AT: yeah yeah, don't worry! managed to f1ght h1m off... 1t was really we1rd though... dude tr1ed to get me w1th a buzzer?

AT: sh*t.
AG: What a8out your hair?
AG: Why was he after your hair of all things?
AT: well, call 1t a w1ld guess... but let's just say er1dan's never been super happy my ha1r doesn't match my blood.
AT: but to send a guy to attack me! that's cold, man...
AT: maybe 1 k1nd of asked for 1t w1th the new dye job, but...

GT: Ah, miss serket! Hello!
GT: I was just wondering, if you wouldnt mind terribly, and if its no inconvenience to you in any way-
GT: If we might have a word?
AG: Hello, Jake! How have you 8een?
AG: Certainly!
GT: As for how ive been, well, much better then of late! Occupied with one thing or another.
GT: And it would be rude of me not to ask the same of you! Have you been well?
AG: Yes, I have! Although it is difficult to grasp that what we experienced were only dreams.
GT: Ah yes, i know just what you mean. They put on a jolly good show!
GT: But looking at the evidence is the only conclusion i can come to.
AG: And that is?
GT: Oh, my apologies! I meant to say "it is".
GT: All in all id say its done and dusted though, and all the better for it!
AG: I'm not so certain. What was the purpose of 8ringing us there only for us to wake up? In my personal opinion, whoever placed us in comas could have left us like that indefinitely.
GT: Ah, but we fought our way out! The entire ordeal was psychological, so to speak, and by overcoming physical manifestations of what kept us bound we earned our freedom!
AG: Yes, I suppose. I guess it's merely........unsettling.
GT: Id try not to dwell overmuch! Thats what theyd want, i wager. Instead enjoy the company of those you had missed.
GT: Which in a roundabout way leads me to my earlier point, i suppose!
AG: Yes, you do have a point there.
AG: Please continue! ::::)
GT: Aha, so!
GT: As im sure you are already aware, vriska has been nice enough to ask us both to accompany her and eridan on a voyage.
GT: And i have every intention of taking part.
GT: Am i to assume that you do too?
AG: Yes, of course!
GT: Right.
GT: Well.
GT: Without beating about the bush too much, i know theres a degree of history between us.
GT: A rather nasty business in all.
AG: Ah, right.
GT: And i dont know what your stance on all that was, or whether youre committed to the same path.
GT: And im not trying to put you on some cruise to guiltsville!
GT: I still dont understand half of what was going on back then.
GT: I just want to know that we, that this isnt
GT: Gah!
GT: I want to know that that wont happen again.
GT: Or anything similar for that matter!
AG: No, no of course not! I do not see any scenario in conjunction to that occurring at any point in the future.
AG: However, what I should 8e asking is........
AG: No hard feelings?
GT: Hm? Oh!
GT: I dont see why there should be, what with everyone else forgiving each other. Water under the bridge, you know! Im afraid i was still a little trepedacious.
GT: You can understand why, cant you?
GT: Im not being overly cautious... am i?
AG: Yes, I understand your feelings on the matter. If I were in your position I would pro8a8ly feel the same.
AG: If it gives you any comfort, I have no plans of repeating that incident.
GT: Do i have your word?
GT: Just as you have mine that i shall not raise a hand to you in way of instigation?
AG: ........
AG: You have my word.
AG: I promise.
GT: Very good! As do I.
GT: In fact, with that in mind i may even go so far as to offer my pledge to do my very best to keep the entire crew under my protection.
GT: Including your good self!
GT: Ive already offered to help miss peixes with human cultural matters, you see.
GT: I want to make myself useful in any way i can!
AG: 8ut you are useful.
AG: And no, I did not mean to imply anything of past events.
GT: Hows about we well and truly put it behind us? No sense living in whats already been.
GT: Id much prefer to focus on all the chats regarding cultural exchange well be busying ourselves with!
AG: I agree wholeheartedly!
AG: With the resurrection comes a chance to start anew. I know it's not a clean sl8, 8ut it's a start.
GT: Precisely! Im not sure when vriska wants us all to congregate.
GT: But ill be seeing you soon, i wager!
GT: Please bring along any cultural texts you think ill find informative.
GT: And some films to watch too, maybe!
AG: I have my li8rary in my sylladex, organized via the troll Dewey decimal system.
AG: I'm sure I can loc8 a few to your liking!
GT: Indeed? I greatly look forward to it then.
GT: Thank you aranea, truly.
AG: A8solutely! It is my pleasure!
GT: Until later then!
GT: Gnight!
AG: Good night Jake!

CA: aranea do you still havwe my flipping guitar?
AG: Why would I have your guitar?
CA: you TOOK it from me in that dream thing, duh.
AG: Emphasizing that it was, in fact, a dream, have you considered the fact that I may not actually have it?
CA: ...no.
CA: do you havwe it?
AG: Did you even 8other to check your sylladex?
CA: ...no.
AG: Will you check your sylladex?
CA: ...maybe.
CA: holy smokes, vwould you look at that.
CA: it IS still there.
CA: huh, thats vweird.
AG: How 8izarre. It's where you left it the last time you had it.
CA: hey nowv, im all disoriented still from vwaking up, you shouldnt judge me on my memory, i mean come on nowv.
AG: I never said a thing a8out your memory.
CA: anyvway, since i havwe your attention, i havwe a question i havwe to throwv at you.
AG: Yes, I suppose I can indulge you. Go ahead. CA: ok so you and meenah are still a thing, right?
CA: and thats not my question, thats just a vwarm up one, ok?
AG: Okaaaaaaaay........ Yes, to my knowledge we are "still a thing."
CA: ok, and havwe you tvwo gone on like dates or anything before?
CA: thats still not my question though.
AG: Naturally.
AG: I'm tickled as it answers 8oth of your st8ments.
CA: yes, that vwas really hilarious.
CA: anyvway, vwhere do you guys GO? like vwhere is the most hip place you can think of, and think real hard because i knowv hip is something thats not really in your vocabulary.
AG: Firstly, I urge that you do not ask a favor and insult me in the same sentence if you desire any useful inform8ion at all.
CA: i am rolling my eyes right nowv, but go on.
AG: Even though it's hard for you to comprehend, I'll have you know that we have gone almost everywhere, regardless of it 8eing "hip" or not. That is a varia8le which is primarily dependent on our correlating moods.
CA: ugh, ok, but you didnt ansvwer my question. vwhere do you guys go for dates?
AG: Like I said, it honestly depends.
CA: come on aranea, i need the SPECIFICS. like actual locations and stuff.
CA: this is vwery important.
AG: I don't know. Sometimes we go into the city and enjoy the daylife, and other times we appreci8 the tranquility of the outskirts. Some d8s we try escaping from her 8odyguards, and I admit, that is actually fun on the occasions we do.
AG: Why are you so curious a8out this anyway?
CA: because im planning a date of my own, duh. and as much as i hate to admit it, i vwas blanking out on choice locations.
AG: Well........I........congratul8ions, Cronus.
CA: thanks.
AG: In that case, I suggest you inconspicuously discover what your, er, d8 enjoys and surprise the lucky troll. Or human. Or whatever suits your interests.
CA: vwell i already knowv the guy pretty vwell. its just hes so damn picky about evwery little detail and demands that evwerything is perfect.
CA: he actually told me vwhat to vwear to the date.
CA: ...they. they told me.
AG: Excuse me? /They/? As in you're planning on going on a d8 with multiple people?
AG: Might I inquire who they are?
AG: Not that I...am dou8tful of your exploits.
CA: no no, THEY as in their gender is not something i think i should disclose at the moment, you dig? and no, you may not inquire. i knowv howv you are vwith gossip.
AG: Ah, I see. Even though you esta8lished that this individual was male in the sentence previous.
AG: So.
AG: They.
CA: yes. THEY.
CA: so anyvway, i guess thanks for something.
AG: No pro8lem. ::::) If you are seeking of a way to repay me, I have an idea: 8ecause you will not divulge inform8ion regarding the identity of your person of interest, will you 8e willing to divulge which quadrant interests you?
CA: uuuuuuugh, if youll shut your yap about it i guess i can.
