Fanfic Prompt/Concept

Merthur, Role reversal & Soulmates AU, not anymore dystopic than canon, inspired by a concept from the Sword of Truth book series.

In a society where the amount of magic you possess determines your status, Merlin Ambrosius is the most powerful warlock in existence and known across all kingdoms.

While those with little magic do suffer prejudice, no fate is as unenviable as the pristinely ungifted. The average person has magic, however small the amount. Those we call pristinely ungifted are extremely rare and own no magic at all, not even the tiniest spark. That makes them immune to all forms of magic, except soulmate magic. Feared, seen as abominations, they are hunted down and put to death in most kingdoms.

Arthur Pendragon has been hiding his whole life. He's known, since his soul name appeared, that he can never cross path with his soulmate, or if he does, he can never have him find out his nature.

Because surely the most powerful warlock to ever walk the earth can't afford to have a pristinely ungifted for a soulmate and surely he wouldn't hesitate to kill him himself, if he ever finds out.

What is your favorite lesser known Fandom?

I’m starting to realize i only check tumblr after work, but it would definitely have to be Video Game High School made by Freddie Wong, Will Campos, Brian Firenzi, and Matt Arnold.

It’s an old web series made in 2012 when youtube was starting to gain traction and becoming the poster child for video uploads. It's still up to watch on the Rocket Jump channel today.

An without a doubt i say the CGI and animation still hold up to today. Even a bit wonky here and there, but this series should be the base line for anything video game based, cough pixels cough.

I do recommend checking it out for anyone who sees this. The way they have the season set up are cool too.

The first season the episodes are the length of a common YouTube video, each being between 10 and 16 minutes long, excluding the last episode of the season which is 20.

Season two runs like a TV show each being between 30 to 38 minutes, with the last episode being 43 minutes long.

With the third season episodes being close to an hour the shortest being 39 minutes, and such as the rest the last episode of the season is the longest at an hour and 6 minutes.

I really fucking love this series and will take any and every opportunity to talk and ramble about it and it's tiny details.

The last time we were on a long flight, my wife and I invented a game we call "Little Guy."

You start a game of Little Guy by saying, "I'm gonna hand you a little guy." The little guy is some kind of baby animal you are imagining. "Oh," she might say in response, "Okay," and hold out her hands for it. I will then mime handing her the animal. This provides some clues as to the little guy's size, weight, and general ungainliness.

She then gets to ask questions about what kind of little guy this is, BUT NO QUESTIONS ABOUT HIS ACTUAL APPEARANCE OR SPECIES ARE ALLOWED. Qualitative questions, or questions about his behavior, are the only ones permitted. She can ask "Is he soft?" or "Does he seem nervous about being held?" or "If I put him in the bathtub, does he seem okay with that?" or "Would he like a lil grape?" or "Is he the sort of little fellow who would wear a vest in a children's book?" but not "Does he have fur," "Is he a reptile," "Is he from Asia," etc. Some questions are in a grey area so you have to follow your heart, but the point is not to identify the animal as fast as possible: the point is to guess the animal purely based on vibes + how he would act if he were in your living room right now.

And I'm not limited to yes or no answers! If she asks, "Would it feel appropriate to see this little guy in a propeller hat?" I can reply, "Oh no, he has a gravity to him. A bowler hat would be a more appropriate hat." Or if she asks, "Does this little guy have protagonist energy?" I can say something like, "he probably wouldn't be the main character in a children's cartoon. He'd probably be the main character's ditzy best friend who's always eating sandwiches, or something."

We're big Twenty Questions to kill time in a waiting room people, but Little Guy is more about the journey than the destination. It's got a different kind of sauce that's nice if "killing time" and "lowering anxiety" need to happen hand in hand.
