When I was in high school I read War and Peace and at some point while reading I ran downstairs to tell my dad about it and I was nigh-hysterical trying to explain how I related to a fictional socially awkward russian man written ~150 years ago and how amazing and surreal it was that through a book I could connect with and find meaning in text about a different culture in a totally different time.

I rambled to my dad a lot about books I read but that was the first time I really caught him off guard lol

I’m conflicted over Sonya and Nikolai in War and Peace. On one hand I’m kind of pissed at Nikolai for ditching her; I love Marya, and her seeing him appear on a horse like a Knight In Shining Armor(TM) was adorable, but still. On the other hand, SONYA DESERVED BETTER, DAMMIT. Better than him!

… I still think the scene where she was wearing a mustache and he thought she was the most beautiful person he ever saw was adorable.
