Waiting for the leaves to sink.
Room/tank update.
Work in progress for my son’s room.
I've got a big marineland bowfront (45ish gallons) I'll be setting up soon for baby's room.
Went ahead and ordered a new bubble counter from GLA. I'm looking forward to using it because I've been using cheap ones from amazon. I'm hoping this one will be completely airtight. I've been having problems getting the others I have to completely seal, even with silicone. I was going to go ahead and order a diffuser from them as well but they're still out of stock and I don't want/need the big ones. I really want to purchase a GLA reg soon.
I'm going to take full advantage of this disaster and use the down time to rethink hardscaping, stocking, plants, and tank location. I'm going to go for a walk this weekend and look around at different rocks and pieces of wood just to see if anything really stands out. I'll start switching over to a black substrate as well. I currently have the tank located against a wall between my couch and front door, but I'm wondering how it would look as a room divider between the dining and living rooms. I'll figure it out.
Day 2: cycle crashed.
In the future when I go out of town, I’m paying for a service and not counting on anyone else.
About a week. I came home to HIGH light (all 4 t5ho bulbs left on), low c02, no fert dosing, filtration shut off, bubble bar shut off. All but two fish are okay. My danios are beyond help so I'm going to euthanize them. I've relocated the rest of the fish, just finished a major WC and cleaning, and I'll be sorting through plants for a while. I can't salvage them all.
My son looking like a fish at 9wks BTW it's a boy and we're about to hit the halfway mark!

Thinking about starting an aquaponics system in the living room.
Chin up, sea toad. Evolution may have given you a grumpy face, a potato-sack body, and what looks like a permanent case of chin rash, but at least you got legs, right? How many fish get legs? Legs are probably good for something underwater, right? They probably are. I mean, they certainly don’t look useless dangling from your weird little abdomen like that while you swim. Not useless at all. You really are a lucky fish.

Trimmed and moved some stuff around. Hope yall aren't tired of looking at it yet
I never show it from a distance.

Tank life
Spending some time on the tank today. Made a lighting adjustment and I’m going to switch to giesemann bulbs sometime over the next week or so. I’ve been really preoccupied with the pregnancy news and I’m thinking about scaling back on tanks for a while. This one is staying for sure, but I’ve been cutting back on stocking so my involvement with other things doesn’t interfere with quality control. The baby tears are still doing well and slowly spreading. I’m trimming the rest of the plants about twice a week now.
We're gonna have a baby.
