The little we talk about the dramas Yurako creates, especially when it involves Mao, is noteworthy.

Tho he looks like a kicked puppy right after (bc of his guilt of taking Nanoka's blood😔)
This is the second time they've made Mao smile because of/at Nanoka😭💛💜
Kamon is right.
Mao's frustration and anger, he doesn't think about what he does.
On the other hand, I feel compassion for Nanoka she never saw him that way, even less for Sana.
Unconsciously, she's putting herself down because she already has feelings for Mao.
2026 books - agnes aubert's mystical cat shelter by heather fawcett I’m not going to poison you. Wouldn’t be much point, given that you’re nothing but moonlight and cobwebs.
just checked hulu’s august schedule today to confirm the mao dub was there, but what’s surprising is that it says premiere 🤔
so I guess the first cour dubbed is releasing weekly starting with the first episode, instead of all at once? 😭
and disney+’s schedule has the same update

103 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
I'm delighted to drop this new artwork, commissioned by the wonderful team at Del Rey Books to celebrate the upcoming release of AGNES AUBERT’S MYSTICAL CAT SHELTER by Heather Fawcett!
I was grateful to read an early copy from Del Rey Books to deep-dive into Heather's crafted new world, and I'm not exaggerating when I say this was my TOP read at the end of last year. This was the first time I've wanted a stand-alone to not be a stand-alone, as Agnes and Havelock and all of the shelter kitties are my new obsession.
In the book, Agnes Aubert is on the search for a new space after her cat shelter was collaterally damaged by a spontaneous magician's street duel. She ends up unwittingly leasing a new space from Havelock Renard, the First Dark Mage who infamously almost caused the apocalypse -- a worst case scenario for Agnes when magic is outlawed. Agnes is adamant on keeping her cats safe and her charity sensible, but soon her no-nonsense policies clash with Havelock's stubborn personality and his precarious dealings in magic, bringing the attention of the authorities and other unexpected magical dangers to her doorstep.
Please sit down and enjoy this cozy fantasy set in 1920's Montréal, packed with bejeweled magicians, magical pastries, and the ultimate cat distribution system!
AGNES AUBERT’S MYSTICAL CAT SHELTER is available everywhere books are sold on February 17!
Havelock & Agnes from Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett by Nikittysan
every time Havelock Renard opens his mouth, an entire Wikipedia page about magic falls out
Genres: Magic, cats, cozy
Rating: 3/5
I thought after reading all of Emily Wilde the main character Agnes would be the same. Happily, she's not! Agnes is older and too jaded to deal with the ridiculousness of magicians and their wacky spells when she has to worry about the cat population in Montréal. If you like Howl's Moving Castle, the book or the movie, you'll like this.
Thanks to a street duel between magicians on her street, Agnes Aubert is on the hunt for a wide shopfront for her business, a cat shelter. With many landlords not willing to put up cats in their space and rent being even more high, Agnes is at the end of her wits and decides to move into the haunted shop in a fancy street with dirt-cheap rent. She notices strange customers marching into her cat shelter and disappearing into a forbidding trapdoor in the backroom, but she doesn't question the strange dealings of the landowner as long as she can take care of her cats. Imagine her surprise when she finds out the man living beneath her floorboards is the dreaded Witch King himself!
It's Howl's Moving Castle but instead of a magical hat maker who can speak truth into objects, it's an older widowed cat lady who can't stand the childish antics of magicians. Agnes dislikes magicians and all the mayhem and suffering magic causes the normal people. But as we know a story is going to do, she's going to understand the motivations of the magicians: how they grew up, how they came into power, and how the magicians' community is divided into the quiet unobtrusive ones and the flashy destructive ones.
Our Howl, our messy Witch King Havelock Renard, is…he's LITERALLY Howl. He keeps spiders around, not bothering to kill them. His rooms are messy and cluttered with magical Artefacts. He's antisocial, bad with ladies, and obsessed with magic.
But are you here for cats? Oh, the cats in the book play roles ranging from companions, merchandise, and familiars. We track mainly three cats: His Majesty, a fat bully; Banshee, a silent cat who barely makes any noises at all; and Thoreau, an old-timer who's been around for ages. Barely does the book touch upon cats' relationship with magic, but just enough that you can't forget how mysterious felines are and how you have to let cats be cats.
ok now for the big post! gotta have one every few chapters at least
from the get-go, Jinshi wasn't a kid who wanted lots of variety or was greedy for a shitton of toys, but was content with only playing with the ones he liked best. And then those were the ones targeted by Suiren and Gaoshun for removal
And the thing that bothers me the most is the "secretly hide them" part. It's one thing to try to tell him that some toys are being taken away for his own good, even if it's still cruel and doesn't convince him, but to just take them away from him is... he'd never even get the chance to object or voice his feelings. and he could never anticipate the moment a beloved toy would be taken, only the growing feeling of dread that it would be taken from him, out of nowhere, now that he likes it
Like i honestly do understand their reasoning (to some extent) but this is expecting him to learn the lesson on his own with brute force, rather than gently guiding him towards why he shouldn't cling too much to things
Also, noting that Jinshi had no friends at that age (until Basen joined him a bit later) makes this even more isolating and devastating. He was incredibly lonely and couldn't even get attached to stuff, no pets either!
I'm speculating here, but I think this toy is when he began to "hide his favorites" because there's no way Suiren or Gaoshun would've let him keep it for long enough to become this dark if they knew about it
Instead of learning not to get attached, like they wanted for him, he learned to hide and keep his feelings all to himself
Maomao's no-speculation rule probably also extends to judging charcater (since she's particularly bad at it, she needs to be extra careful) but she finally had evidence for her suspicions that Jinshi's childish behavior is more his true self
aaaaannd then she pulls back from it:
No, no Master Jinshi isn't a sweet person who was greatly mistreated (and emotionally abused) during his childhood! That's absurd to consider!
He's just the beautiful sleazy Eunuch, of course of course
but then
This makes me think that Suiren asking this AFTER she showed Maomao the toys and Maomao refusing to give an answer is her way of protecting Jinshi. Even if he loves Suiren and Gaoshun, he was repeatedly betrayed by them since childhood, and yet he showed that side of him to Maomao, and she decides to keep it a secret
biblically accurate hmc redraws!
i was rereading the book so why not! i have a couple more doodles but i’ll post them all together later. not too happy with how Sophie turned out, but i also wanted her to look plain compared to michael and howl…
a redraw of these i did a year ago:
I am obsessed with Howl Jenkins from the book Howl’s Moving Castle.
What do you mean he’s just some random bloke from Wales who plays rugby and dabbles in witchcraft and that’s why he lives in this magical world.
When Sophie thinks his accent is weird… it’s because he is Welsh.
I can’t cope.
I need a TV series adaptation of that book yesterday. And I need him to be played by the prettiest Welshman they have.
TRUTH!!!
