What do you suppose is going on inside the heads of fans that cherry-pick Martin’s interviews? They keep going oooon and ooooon about the “key 5”, but conveniently ignore all the times Martin complained about the outline leak and the instances where he included Sansa among them. Do they not know about this? Is this some knowledge privy to Jonsa/Sansa fans? Or do they pretend not no be able to read whenever they see it?
Same goes for all the interviews in which he claims Dany and her dragons are a threat, or more specifically the threat, along with the Others. Whenever he talks about how power corrupts, how he tries to disagree with the ones who say that “Dany is destined to rule Westeros” without being too obvious (I mean, he is obvious, but apparently not enough), when he praised the Meereenese Blot essays, when he said dragons are nukes that don’t give the power to build and improve...do they...ignore all this? How could they misinterpret it? Do they simply pretend these interviews do not exist?
I think I remember reading something, but I can’t recall the source: apparently, for years fans have claimed that Martin’s wife has a favourite character, Arya, and that she wants her to survive, when actually it’s both Arya and Sansa. Do you know anything about this? And if it’s true and I didn’t hallucinate it, how pathetic is that? Erasing Sansa’s status as one of Martin’s wife’s faves like that...my god.
Ignorance. They haven't read those interviews.
Delusion. They feel as if the author is intentionally misleading people in those interviews.
Arrogance. They believe that they know the characters and story better than the author does.
As for your last question, I think George once publicly stated his wife Parris threatened to leave him if he killed Arya before the final book. Years later, Maisie Williams shared that same story but included Sansa. Now most would assume that George or Parris told her that, but people who don't like Sansa insisted Maisie included her because of her relationship with Sophie.
