I'm guessing that when you reach a certain age, you just look for ways to simplify things. To go back to the basics. I've always been more so a city girl, but life as you know it, often throws you in situations you're not the most comfortable in. And of course both my parents and J love seeing me suffer through a rural lifestyle...
J and I went back to Taiwan for Christmas and stayed up in the mountains for a few days. It was part horrific - part amusing - part refreshing. It’s quite something to live without the usual luxuries… No TV, hardly any wifi.. hanging your clothes out to dry on lines that go from tree to tree. I wasn't even allowed to have a proper shower (I had to scoop water out of the hot springs and shampoo my hair next to the drains...)
All in all though, I love that we have different cultures and lifestyles from our past to pull from and experience. There's really no "countryside" in Singapore so I'm kind of glad I got to be a "Taiwanese villager" for a few days. You know when you strip away all your usual comforts, you don't really have a choice but to experience and embrace life as it is. For some odd reason, it was almost homier.
But please don't ever take me away from my proper showers, food and wifi for too many days.
