but why is the heat in britain so bad? /gen
welcome to the annual yearly debate, so glad you're here
the British Isles are hit with a unique combo of different winds from Northern Africa, the Atlanic ocean, the Northern sea, and quite frankly everywhere else. The UK + Ireland is the weird hot-spot for windpatterns that makes our weather so messy and mixed.
We can have dry heat summers, but it leans humid yet still retains a weird mix. There's a reason every year influencers post about how they "underestimated British summer" bcs the 33°c heatwave we just had was bad, both for our tolerance and infrastructure
AC isn't commen here, at least within homes. Idk abt the rest of you, but when it's hot I go to shopping centers and cimeas bcs theyre the most reliable spaces for ac and my flat is west facing (hell).
The uk isn't prepared for rising heat levels let alone any heat, this is a wet humid country known for being cool. Global warming is making is worse, and politicians are failing to act. It will only get worse
Fundamentally, uk summer weather is 'shocking' to those in dry heat climates, but "nothing" to those in humid heat environments. But there is still a certain government failure that makes it feel so much worse every year
