I mean, The ICD 11 says that you don't need a disorder to experience multiple "distinct identity states," (the same term it uses for dissociative identities). Transgender Mental Health by Dr Eric Yarbrough has an entire chapter dedicated to plurality that repeatedly affirms that you do not need trauma or a disorder to be plural! The creators of the theory of structural dissociation have said it may be possible to have self-conscious dissociative parts of the personality for reasons other than trauma. Dr. Colin Ross who has spent decades studying trauma and DID has said he believes in multiplicity outside of disorders and trauma.
And those are only a few.
And it's also completely one-sided. Sysmeds have yet to produce one single doctor who has unambiguously said you need to have DID or a dissociative disorder to experience plurality. NOT ONE!
So what is the response? Do these people who claim to be pro psych and following the science change their minds when so many professionals are disagreeing with them?
No way!
For the ICD 11, you have the special pleading. The attempt at interpreting it as not being able to apply to endogenic systems. "The example only mentions spiritual mediums so therefore it doesn't count for endogenic systems." This particular line of thought would suggest the World Health Organization is acknowledging not a psychological phenomena that can present similarly to dissociative disorders, but that it's acknowledging the existence of literal metaphysical spirits… Which would be pretty wild. But of course, nobody actually believes that the ICD 11 is acknowledging that metaphysical spirits exist. Anyone who acts like the WHO is confirming literal spirits over non-disordered plurality is obviously arguing in bad faith.
And now you are beginning to see the absurd standards here. Why would an esteemed psychiatrist need to be a trauma specialist to weigh in on something not being caused by trauma. The DID experts are usually in trauma centers treating patients in psychiatric hospitals with trauma disorders. They are in a field where they would never be exposed to non-traumagenic systems. Meanwhile, Eric Yarbrough is a queer person who specializes in LGBTQ mental health. His profession has been dedicated to studying and advocating for marginalized people who have historically been unfairly pathologized.
If you asked me, someone who actually would be in a position where they would work with non-disordered systems is a more valuable source on this discussion than someone who has only been exposed to patients with trauma disorders.
But this is the argument the sysmed uses to dismiss Yarbrough. Also the argument they use to dismiss Dr. Michael Lifshitz who was conducting the Stanford tulpa study. These are psychiatrists, but they don't count because they aren't DID specialists specifically.
Wow, a lotta bullshit to unpack here. I’ll do this one at a time.
- alters are not particularly distinct identity states. They’re fragmented states of consciousness formed from severe structural dissociation. And what is the cause of dissociation? Right! Trauma. And for it to be severe enough for your entire brain to rewire itself, it would have to be some pretty chronic amounts of trauma. Again, someone stating plurality exists out of a trauma based frame with no sources or research to back it up is not a credible source, even if said individual is a professional. I’m pretty sure the second statement you made about the possibility of distinct dissociative parts being possible was about disorders and/or other dissociative symptoms resembling similarities to that of CDDs (<- which fyi, doesn’t make them the same.) notice also how they said PROBABLY and not DEFINITELY, either. Onto Collin Ross! Yeah let’s use the guy who repeatedly abused the fuck out of his clients and was so shit at his job he lost his degree that also thinks humans can shoot lasers out their eyes. Definitely a good source. /sarc
- the reason why DID isn’t explicitly stated to be caused by trauma is because it would be unethical to repeatedly traumatise children and those similar in order to see if they’d develop the disorder (alongside the fact that a traumatic event does not guarantee the development of a CDD either. ); it also doesn’t need to state that you need trauma because dissociation to that extent already tells you that it’s caused by traumatic events. Even in the diagnostic criteria it shows symptoms that heavily resemble that of PTSD. come on now.
- they’re not confirming the existence of spirits, they’re acknowledging religious practices that are linked with the belief of such and that these people may present similarly to CDDs from the outside, but are not the same and therefore shouldn’t be issued a diagnosis for the disorder if that ever to be the case. I am not apart of these cultures so this isn’t my place to fully elaborate to its full extent.
- and finally, the Stanford tulpa study was of an actual individual who was doing the real religious practice, not your tulpagenic system bullshit. Need I say more on this?
You seem to be forgetting the entire history of endogenics and the natural multiples movement as well. Even IF endogenics were real, the very concept of them was used against us in an attempt to invade our spaces, mock our disability and try to get our disorder demedicalised and taken off of the DSM. they’ve caused so much harm to many trauma survivors as a community and said community has made no effort in changing their views or behaviour.
anti endos demonize a group of people they dont understand and its disgusting. the way you talk about peoples trauma and suffering is gross. you put peoples identities in quotation marks and shame everyone for specific interactions or fantasies. you hate them so much you put them in your username like ultra fuck people like you
The answer is going to be short and direct because I know you haven't actually read any post I've written.
1. As previously stated, I don't hate every endo and willos, quite frankly so much hatred would be unhealthy for everyone. What I hate is the impact you will have alike on people who don't remember their trauma and people who are in denial as your movement historically has spread misinformation and the belief that if you don't remember your trauma but have a trauma disorder then it means you have no trauma because that disorder can actually be without trauma!!!
2. As previously stated, the name is following a trend.
3. Honestly if you have fantasies of having a CDD ( and I say this as someone who had them ) then there's definitely something going on and that's not normal. Either you misunderstand the disorder or you're actually a victim of abuse who wants something confirming you have been abused ( even if it is subconscious ).
I've been doing research on natural multiplicity ( the movement that was reshaped into the endogenic one ) and I was wondering if anyone had other information regarding the essayist Anthony Temple who wrote Multiplicity is natural because I haven't been able to find any information on who that guy was?
I wanna start this off by saying I AM ANTI ENDO!!!! I DO NOT BELIEVE IN NONTRAUMAGENIC CDD!!!!
That being said
Y'all are hypocritical asf
I'm anti endo bc the term is rooted in a hate campaign against dissociative disorders and that they infiltrate trauma spaces then convinced everyone they can that their trauma isn't enough
Y'all just hate them bc they're too similar to us
What these communities are experiencing aren't non-existent, I believe them when they say they feel like their experience is happening, I just don't believe the cause of it is CDD unless they have hidden trauma.
People can experience similar things to CDD without it being CDD, such as many personality disorders, schizospec disorders, IFS, age regression and more
No one hates on these communities even though they sometimes share our terms, because everyone generally understands that whilst they may have some similarities or even actually overlap they are still completely different experiences
Now let's look at the polymind community
A community of a term with 0 relation to CDD and functions solely on subpersonalities and is and never will be a disorder
Y'all hate them for why???? Because they're too similar???? Oh no! Synonyms being used. 😰😱 Whatever will you do!!!! It's not like half the things I listed before literally SHARE terms with us (cough cough little, caregiver, headspace, innerworld, splitting)
The term is used by like maybe 50, 100 people maximum.. y'all are crying over a nonexistent percentage of people in their own community, I even see anti polyminds infiltrating THEIR tags..!
Endogenic CDD is built on the idea that you can have alters without a CDD
Polymindence is.. subpersonalities. SUBPERSONALITIES! not alters.
"but katz, everyone has subpersonalities" If that's your only argument then we don't need any identity labels at all bc "everyone experiences this the same"
Which just isn't true, whilst everyone has them, not everyone can differentiate them as much as polyminds do
"but I see pro endo polyminds" just bc an alterhuman or Agere is pro endo does that mean they aren't alterhuman or Agere? Their stance has nothing to do with their polymindence
"but they're causing themselves dissociation" if polymindence causes you dissociation then maybe look into therapy because there's probably another underlying condition. Polymindence is not a disorder.
+ any identity label can be bad for you if taken far enough but I don't see y'all whining about people using fictionkin, alterhuman, agere as identity labels. Because let me tell you an underlying dissociation issue can combat with these experiences aswell, but at the end of the day that person isnt "faking CDD" because of it right? So why polyminds? It really is just because they're "too similar" isn't it? Yeah
Anyways I didn't mean for this to become a huge ass rant but it did lmao, I'm just tired of this community grouping a harmless identity with endos when they never had anything to do with us
its pretty early in the day for me but heres some daily reminders <3
you do not owe anyone your diagnosis status
you do not owe anyone your system's information
don't share your triggers online (+ dont put them in pluralkit. pluralkit is not private unless you individually set every single member as private)
you are not faking just because your mind quiets down
p-did & osdd-1a systems are valid
endos dont exist - it contradicts the entire meaning of what a system even is and how it develops! your experiences most likely are not "endogenic systemhood".
having a multi-facetted identity is normal
introjects arent their sources but that doesnt mean you force introjects in systems youve never met before to source seperate
there's probably more im forgetting so feel free to add more daily reminder things if you want <3 you are loved!
I'm sorry, I can't tell if you are referring to that anon or if you're the anon?
Any ways, to answer your question: society as a whole is still pretty much ableist/ignorant about mental health issues, internet is nothing but a mirror enhancing the best and the worst of that society. DID is a very discussed diagnosis with much research on the subject to do. People are going to be more prompt to misunderstand it and share their misconception online. Young people who are more easily impressed and less likely to do research will fall on it and keep on sharing false ideas. By isolating themselves, either because they refuse to listen to other point of views or because of the harassment they might have face, they're more likely to create an echo chamber and to grow into it. Then more young people are going to fall on it etc...
My man "I don't hate willogenic. I do however hate that they're spreading a narrative that will make it harder for people with trauma to realize that they do have trauma" a majority of willos are not doing that???? It just sorta sounds like you're either looking for an excuse to hate willos, or you're confusing them with radqueers or transIDs or something. I promise you that a majority of them are not spreading the narrative of "you don't have trauma"
"Willogenic describes a system that was purposefully created or willed into existence, with no connections to tulpamancy."
- Pluralpedia https://pluralpedia.org/w/Willogenic
Now, what is a system?
"A system is a collection of alters within one body. "
What about alters?
"An alter is a dissociated self state (. . .) most if not all alters can take recurrent executive control of the body in which they reside. Alters each have their own perception of self as a unique individual or entity and do not view themselves as only an aspect of a complete person. Externally, alters can display different degrees of emotional expressiveness, behave in different ways, and have different skills and abilities related to sensory-motor functioning. They have different thoughts, perceptions, and memories relating to themselves and to the world around them. They may perceive themselves as having an age, gender, sexuality, appearance, source, or even species that may or may not match that of the system's actual body, and they may or may not be aware of these discrepancies."
Both statement on system and alters sourced from DIDR https://did-research.org/
It is very interesting to not that an official website with researcher and who's goal it is to make resources on DID more easy to understand and which cites sources from mental health specialist, links systemhood intrinsically to alters and dissociation. Although one could argue that system isn't a term that shows up often in official mental health websites, when willos mean system, they mean system with alters.
Now you might say "But anti-willo-astro! It says headmates not alters!" but if we look at the language "I'm a singlet" "we usually start out with a few personality traits and a general idea of what them to look like" it is very clear that they are referring to an alter in a dissociative system.
When non-traumagenic system are so rampant in the community, many younger people who are potentially system or have other disorder causing dissonance in their identity are going to fall on this, what do you think will happen? Very potentially they will dismiss the fact that they have trauma they might not remember, that is impacting them, and they're going to turn to those kind of stuff that are going to harm them. I recommend you check out @anti-willo-sprout 's post on his own experience having being manipulated into believing he was non-traumagenic and to will alter and the harm it caused to him. For so many system, one of their biggest issues is denials of their disorder and trauma as did is a very masking disorder. What good will it do to them to being exposed to people on the internet enabling their denial? How many years of trauma work could they loose?
Now, I want you to think, who would benefice from all of this? For this I want to talk about natural multiplicity. Natural multiplicity, later renamed endogenic, was the belief that people could be naturally "multiple". The essay I read on the subject defending it was, worrisome at best, written by a certain Anthony Temple that there is seemingly no information on. His claims in his essays proves a fundamental misunderstanding of what it is to be a system. He says that the fact that diagnosed plurality is the only one allowed means that culturally in the west no one else is allowed to be multiple. It is a very ableist views on DID/OSDD it is not a privilege to have a system or something cultural, it is highly disabling and not desirable in any way shapes of form. And once again, we do not know the qualification of this man or anything about him. "Funnily" enough his claims seems to echoes in part those of the infamous FMS, despite the fact that the website he post his essays on has been against it. The false memory syndrome foundation was created by Pamela and Peter Freyd after the latter was accused by their daughter of having committed csa on her. FMS will go on to make many claims about false memory but the one that interest me, and where I can't help but find the link with Temple's essay, is what it says about DID as disorder.
"The controversies surrounding the diagnosis of Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) or Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) as it is now called, focus on two areas: The cause of the disorder (Is it iatrogenic, i.e. caused by the therapeutic experience?) and The treatment for the disorder. ( . . . ) The point is that at one time or another in life, all of us assume different roles that we play. We take one role on the soccer field, for example, and a vastly different role when we interview for a job. If a vulnerable person happens to seek help from an authority such as a therapist who asks what name the person gives herself on the soccer field and then the therapist starts calling her by that name, it is almost inevitable that she will cooperate and play the role that she feels is hers on the soccer field.
If the therapist encourages a certain role for a while, that role may, for some people, be real take over. What began as a role can then eventually come to define what they see as their true "self."
Readers can see where this is going. If a few other roles including negative or evil ones are also adopted, the patient may redefine his or her self as having multiple persona over which they have little or no control.
Problems the patient may have encountered in the here and now come to be seen as a consequence of multiple personalities. In addition, such a patient may now also be more interesting to the therapist. A therapist’s alert and rewarding response to the multiple personalities could encourage the dredging up more stories and more personalities."
While NM as a theory is telling us that the diagnosis of DID is gatekeeping "multiciplicity" from the west as a civilization, FMS is telling us that it is false and a manipulation from therapist. Both sides highly disregard people who actually have DID and OSDD invalidating their trauma. On top of that they discredid the years of work psychiatrists have put into researching.
All of those talk points are marvelous for abusers. “No you don't have DID because of trauma, it is just because we're a creative family/you were manipulated by a therapist and implanted false memories".
I'm not saying every willos/endos are abusers trying to manipulate victims into not believing they were abused but it is the history of this movement. Your own intention doesn't matter when what you do will lead people astray. You are making it so people do not believe DID and OSDD are serious trauma disorder because you are trivializing our symptoms. Intent does not matter. Trauma victims might be pushed further down the denial spiral. People who do have a diagnosis might start not believing it or not listen to the specialist who can help them.
I've been writing an essay answering an ask with a very... interesting take and I fear it hasn't gotten saved up in my work in progress and I'm going to have to rewrite half of it...
Sometimes as a reflection, I think it is interesting to think about the word pedophile as the way it is used. I've seen a lot of talks over on the french internet of it's use and a very slow switch towards the use of pedo-criminal. Which I think it is interesting to bring the criminal notion into it BUT it is used specifically because of the meaning of pedophilia in ancient Greek and I'm not so sure about keeping the part that means children in it.
Pedo - philia would translate to children and love, but specifically the friendship kind of love. Which would basically say that this mean the one who loves children as friends, which yes it can be questionable that this is the one we use to talk about such vile crimes. We could swap the prefix philia for rastre but it is used as a slur for gay men in french and it has a meaning in that language ( attraction towards underage boys ). Simply calling them groomer wouldn't work either because not all pedophiles will groom their victims.
Ultimately I don't think anything will be able to replace pedophile, it is very ingrained in society. But it is very important to keep on discussing and thinking about the meanings of the words we use and what lays behind them.
Do folks on social medias NOT FUCKING GET that putting all your alters information out there INCLUDING TRIGGERS AND TRAUMAS makes it easier for cruel people to use your system agaisnt you?
Sorry systems can be easily manipulated. Especially if theres high dissociation between parts.
Stop telling us about your nonverbal littles trauma and how bringing it up will make your little just do whatever a person says. Stop telling us that your protector has gone through sexual trauma and if you touch them the right way they shut down. Stop telling us your group of littles is a fawn response.

It is just a common trend going around to claim character as anti-willo. I don't hate willogenic. I do however hate that they're spreading a narrative that will make it harder for people with trauma to realize that they do have trauma and could also help abusers getting away. I do not understand the link with Israel as I am firmly pro-Palestine and anti-zionism, as well as anti-anti-semitic of course, if someone's using zionism as an excuse to hate on jewish people they need to get the fuck out of my account.
Also, I'm white.
So.... I apparently xrote anti-semitic instead of anti-anti-semitic....
Once again my ADHD as betrayed me... I'm firmly against discrimination of Jewish and Arab people. I'm sorry for the misspell ( considering I got an ask about it )
