Fandom Problem #8707:
Someone drawing all their characters with over exaggerated body proportion in banana hammocks, thongs, and micro bras, but saying it's not fetish art and refusing to tag it as anything nsfw related. My beef is its video characters from children series like Pikmin where the characters aren't sexualized in any way, but some fucker wants to draw watermelon size breasts on the Pikmin without any form of censor!

I hate that "NSFW" as a content tag has such a broad application that it could mean "picture of an anime character with her boobs out" or "actual photos of real life gore". While yes neither would be safe to view AT WORK, people haven't used "not safe for work" in its original literal sense for years at this point. I don't think that not wanting to see gory images should also block me from potentially witnessing the horrors of vanilla sex, oh no!

tonight I had the privilege of hearing a 13 year old explain the terms “cooking” and “cooked” to my 45 year old manager and she said something so excellent I have to document it.
“cooked is bad. cooking is good. you’re either in the pot or you’re holding it.”

I'm surprised the 45 years manager didn't know that. Cooked as a bad term isn't new. Compare "your goose is cooked." That one is from the 1800s.
Truly hate the way "did this person do something that actually harmed someone" and "do they deserve to be unpersoned for it" are considered the same question

you can support someone being treated like a human being and not have their human rights violated while also not supporting giving them any power over others because they’ve been shown to abuse it. you can also support people living their lives and doing what makes them happy while also not supporting the idea of their lives overlapping with your own personal one because you’re just not compatible and that’s best for everyone. the world isn’t made up of two doorways that say “Perfect Moral Person” and “Person Who Needs To Be Fed To Piranhas”. that’s not rlly how it works. there are lots of doors.

"I'm not reading all that" is one of the most egg-on-your-face responses you can give to something you disagree with. You are under no obligation to read something you don't feel like reading, but you don't exactly get to act like refusing to read bolsters your position.
"I didn't pay attention to what you said to me, but I'm pretty sure I'm right anyway" is not the dunk you think it is.
Anyway I like it when people say this to me, because it puts my arguments in front of their followers. If some of their followers do read all that, and are even a little bit swayed, hey, the post has done its job. And because in lieu of any counterargument they've opted for this weak "dunk", they've effectively given me the last word, and put it on their blog! It's like a win-win for me. Because they decided they weren't reading all that.
the point of this type of reply is to demoralize people who put a lot of work into writing up an argument, and to emphasize that the quality of your argument doesn't matter because they're only interacting in order to jeer at you or parade you in front of their social group. I feel like this mindset is important to understanding human interactions in general -- it's a realist posture, an assertion of charismatic over legal authority. generally those people are assuming that their audience will view them as the "winner", and generally they're correct!
but you're also kind of right, because most of the time we're talking about someone whose charismatic authority only extends to their little clique. so you can reblog it onto your blog, where you're beloved of your own little clique, and suddenly they're the loser and you're the winner! and this is the great innovation of social media: the tantalizing prospect, never quite realized but always within grasp, of a war that everybody wins.

the scariest thing about the generative AI thing is how quickly people have accepted it as an indefinite, irrevocable part of their reality. people have genuinely convinced themselves that ChatGPT is the only solution to most tasks - tasks they did with their own brain without any large effort two years ago. like you know damn well all of us used to write emails ourselves why are we pretending like this is an impossible task to do with your own two hands. what's with the fucking. AI revisionism. i feel like i am going insane.
To a certain amount it's learned helplessness that people opted into. And it drives me insane.

the other insane thing is that people hear you say that you don't use AI and defensively go "well it's easy for you but not everyone can do that" yes they can? what are you talking about. that's a matter of training not anatomical realities. it's easy for me because i do it everyday. it's hard for you because you are slowly unlearning basic comprehension skills because you are outsourcing them to a machine. that's like yelling at a jogger from your car window about how running isn't real because you don't like your feet touching the ground. absolute madness.
Yesterday I was watching a presentation from a physicist and someone on the audience asked her how did she managed to learn all that without chat gpt.
She just replied with the regular "oh we need to learn tools" bs, but, internally I was very worried because what do you mean how did she learn without it. That was THREE YEARS AGO. This dude was an adult and also a graduate, even if he was first year he should at least have done his high schooling without it.
There's something that I find equal parts hilarious and terrifying.
On one hand it is so funny watching the generation previous to mine (I was born in 84) absolutely say the most unhinged shit online, doxx themselves, and get fired, after spending my entire childhood teaching me online opsec because every stranger was a potential murderer. Social media done rotted their brains.
But on the other I'm seeing kids coming up, seeing them spew all their personals online, and using that to model their unsafe behavior and put themselves at incredible risk because the internet actually got way more dangerous than it was, ironically, when I was coming up being told I had to basically outsmart the fuckin CIA. Now the actual CIA and other bad actors (government, private, and individual) really are out there and these kids are watching fucking meemaw post a photo of the front of her house practically captioned with her fucking SSN and thinking, "yeah, sure, the adults know what's safe."
I gotta be a fuckin millennial about this and beg younger folx to listen to the VCR generation: hide yourself online. Nothing should go there you wouldn't want in the hands of the person who hates you the most.

Me? Im chilling with kids young enough to be my kids on the regular and while they help me with my college classes (math in particular) I am super happy to encourage them in any way I can. I love the younger gen. Theyre so full of HOPE and light!
That's the difference between older Gen X and younger Gen X. Both got the offline, analog childhood. Younger Gen X grew up with the Stranger Danger lessons in school. I don't know about the older cohort but I don't think it was as intense for them. Younger Gen X also got the paranoia of the Satanic Panic. Then when we got online in the 1990s, we got the "everyone online is a liar and a thief and will give you every virus" message which resonated with all the earlier messages and just fit right in.
Bugs Bunny could have simply walked into Mordor. He would have shown up at the gates of Mordor in a disguise and been like "Evil volcano inspection unit" and flashed a fake ID badge to the confused orc.

To be fair, it’s canonically established in Lord of the Rings that Tom Bombadil, an inexplicable magical trickster, is unaffected by the ring, and the only reason they don’t give the job to him is because Tom Bombadil is a silly little man who’s easily distracted and just wants to spend time with his hot wife.
Bugs Bunny, on the other hand, loves nothing more than fucking over self-important dickheads, and is also an inexplicable magical trickster, so he would in fact be perfect for this mission.
The One Ring may not tempt Bugs, but he’d have other problems with the mission: he’d get lost halfway there (”I knew I should’ve made a left turn at Albuquerque”) and get distracted enough to hand the One RIng to Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam as a prank, only for it to be stolen by Daffy Duck, leading to an ever-increasing number of characters on an increasingly-destructive chase across Middle Earth as everyone keeps stealing it from each other, (Bugs would definitely pull the “evil volcano inspector” gag to get into Mordor, and he’d then immediately turn around and pose as a customs agent stopping whoever currently has the ring at the border and relieving them of it as “contraband”) culminating in an all-out brawl at Mount Doom. Bugs manages to reclaim the ring one last time as everyone else is busy fighting each other, only for Daffy to come out of nowhere and grab it out of his hands. Laughing maniacally, Daffy doesn’t realize that his victory dance has taken him right off the edge off a cliff - until Bugs points it out, at which point gravity reasserts itself, and Daffy and the ring both plunge to the fiery depths below
Daffy would just be crawling out of the volcano, feathers completely gone and he’s brunt to a crisp while Bugs is eating a carrot and just says:
“Got a good tan, doc?” “YOU’RE DESPICABLE!”
Or...
Daffy lands in the lava and instinctively drops the One Ring. We see the Ring fall in the lava and melt.
Cut to a shot of the outside of Mount Doom.
Daffy rockets out of the crater in an arcing trajectory, leaving a spectacular contrail behind him. We hear him screaming in pain "Woo hoo whoo hoo woo hoo!!!!"
Cut to the scene where crispy Daffy meets Bugs above.
