If You’re Gonna Make Something Wheelchair Accessible, Don’t Make it a Thing
Here’s some examples awkward accessibility being a thing:
Your at a hotel that has a lift to get you from one sub-floor to another, but the lift can only be unlocked and operated by one specific person that the hotel now has to go find. Sure, they’ve made the entrance to the sub-floor is accessible, but now it’s a thing.
The buses are wheelchair accessible but the driver has to stop the bus, take 30 seconds to lower the goddamn ramp, move passengers out of their seats, hook up the straps and then secure you in the bus. Sure, they’ve made the busses accessible but now it’s a thing.
The restaurant has an accessible entrance, but it’s past the trash room and through the kitchen. Sure, the restaurant is accessible, but now it’s an insulting thing.
Here’s some great examples of accessibility not being a thing:
The train to the airport pulls up flush with the platform. I board with everyone else and sit wherever the fuck I want. Riding the train is accessible and not a thing.
In Portland, I press a button the side of the streetcar and a ramp automatically extends at the same time the door opens. I board in the same amount of time as everyone else. This is not a thing.
I get that it is difficult to design for wheelchair accessibility, but folks need to start considering the overall quality of the experience versus just thinking about meeting the minimum requirements.

For everyone who doesn't know what a radqueer is its basically someone who thinks you can just claim any experience/identity ever because you think it's cool. I'm serious. It's the most baffling corner of the internet I think there is. And most of them are wholeheartedly pro-pedophilia. I'm 99% sure it started as some sort of psyop, but there's definitely unironic non-bait users who believe all this steaming garbage.
unfortunately, it didn't start as a psyop. it was coined by someone who genuinely thinks its ok for adults to be in relationships with children, same for animals and corpses, as well. the radqueer community, from unfortunate experience that I luckily got out of, is the most horrible, bigoted, predatory corner of the internet you can ever find yourself on.
Listen, if a Bad President can come in and take away our rights and we're dependent on a Good President replacing them in four years to give us back our rights, then we do not have any rights.
If politicians can take or distribute them, then they're not "inalienable" and they're not "rights."
We don't have inalienable rights we have conditional privileges, divvied out according to the whims of whoever currently holds the reins.
And if we want to have actual rights, then we must build a system in which no one has the power to take them away to begin with.
one of my least favourite things about the radqueer community is the sheer lack of care for disabled people. like, while some of the stuff could be excused, the ableism is so engrained into it.
the constant use of the r slur, the outright refusal to make their posts more accessible to people with screenreaders because it's not their problem or some stupid shit like that, and this community swears they aren't ableist (though I've only seen people speak out against "ableism" when its transabled people being told that they can't be autisic or something)
transabled is like. one of the worst transid categories because they claim to care so much about having a disability, yet when disabled people ask them to not be ableist it's suddenly no longer relevant.

I like that idea, the one with the knife comes off as pretty violent, I had a chat with people back when the pony town meet up happened about it and most people agree the knife is unnecessary but it's what most antis use and understand.
