So we’re all familiar with the fadom old argument of ‘shaladin ships promotes child grooming! It’s promoting children should be dating nasty adults!’ And like… bitch where? I could literally make an AU where Hunk 23 and Shiro 25 because creative licencing, how the fuck is that grooming?
The irony of this though is that the only instances of grooming we’ve seen from this fandom have been brought by the antis. Antis are the ones who love adopting the fandom mum gig, you know the ‘come here children, let me tell you the right and wrongs and protect you from evil shippers by forcing my own black/white views on you, and dont ever have an independent thought that doesn’t match mine’ attitude. And lets not forget what will forever be yet another black smear on the already pitch black anti sheet that is the babysitter who abused their power over a 9yr old to force to watch Voltron when they didn’t want to, then proceeded to force a fanon ship on them and fill their head with anti propaganda which they basically forced the kid to say while they filmed (because seriously, no way would a kid talk about sexual assault unprompted on a show/ship that does not exist in any form of canon context) and then posted without authorative permission.
This is actual grooming, feeding kids lies and made up crap to force your views on them. You dont have to be an adult and you dont even need to be a fan of something to be able to use if for grooming. You could literally use Sesame Street to groom a child, you could use literally anything to groom a child, nothing is completely safe from being used as a tool, and in this case K/L was the choice of poison.
Antis, who claim to want to protect children, actually praised and didn’t bat an eye to how seedy this incident is and even contradicted their infamouse ‘they’re a minor, they dont have the maturity level to do this or that’ to defend it, while literally everyone else who actually has 2 or more braincells to rub together (including parents who aren’t even in fandom) noticed how genuinely morally and legally wrong it was, and even then that babysitter spent hours after taking the video down to realize how wrong they were but still failed to make a proper genuine apology.
So tell me again how shaladin ships is used for child grooming when every instance of such with evidence to back it has been by the hands of antis and K/L?

I’m a mother, and do you know how many shows I had to actively avoid watching with my daughter because adults turned it into something sexual and gross? A number of years ago, she LOVED My Little Pony, and it was this sweet, well-written children’s show which I didn’t completely dread watching with her.
And do you know why we stopped watching it?
Because grown-ass adults would post heavily sexualized images of the characters online. No tags, on sites aimed for children. So if my kiddo decided to try to google ‘Twilight Sparkle’ she’d inevitably land on a fetish image. Even with child safety on.
There were other shows I didn’t feel comfortable with my daughter watching, just because of the very vocal adult fandom. Voltron I am not even going to approach with her, BECAUSE OF ASSHOLES LIKE YOU.
I sweat to god, 99% of what I hear about this goddamn show is from people looking for every excuse under the sun to justify fantasizing about teenage boys. Grown-ass adults in their twenties, thirties, and forties demanding that they take a show aimed for children, and decide that a mid-twenties year old man would TOTALLY fall for a teenager.

Also, I am 27 years old, and I would NEVER date a teenager. Teenagers are too young. They haven’t finished growing up, and can’t properly grow up if there’s some disgusting adult taking advantage of them. Even if you claim that the child is “Mature” for their age (1: they’re not and 2: the brain is still developing), it doesn’t change the difference in power. I know. I’ve been there. We never let Freshfriedtrash off scott free for their behaviour, most of us didn’t even approve of when the group of shaladins infiltrated a discord group and outed you on your bullshit and hypocrisy, we constantly tell people to just ignore and block and not retaliate to you pizzlestains, and constantly trying to find ways to make things safer for shippers @tiltilla As someone who’s very close with a child protection social worker who’s had to deal with that very same situation, I am aware and honestly the MLP thing was an epic clusterfuck that never should have happened, but unfortunately did and is now there to remind us to tag our fucking shit and only go to places that are NOT kid friendly to share works of that nature. But being part of the internet it’s pretty fucking naive to assume that rule 34 doesn’t apply to kids shows. Voltron on the other hand is NOTHING LIKE MLP, most of us were there when that all went down, and actively try to avoid that from happening because we are very aware that kids watch this, but fun fact - the writers themselves were expecting a very large influx of teen and adult fans either new to the franchise or nostalgia goggles. This isn’t MLP that’s directed for little kids, this isn’t Rick and Morty which is obviously for adults, people who worked on Voltron don’t even try to pretend it’s exclusively for kids, and have actively shown support towards those ‘fetishizing’ ships through liking art and talking about them pretty positively and I’m pretty sure the creators have more of a say on the topic than a bunch of fans on that matter. and honestly you shouldn’t be even making much criticism on the show if you’re not touching the series or fandom and just going off rumors, especially only from one side, and from tumblr of all places, the #1 source of misinformation considering anti’s are the same lot of people swap between ‘18yr olds are adults and should never touch a 16yr old/he’s 18, still a minor and doesn’t know better’ depending on the ship and really, we’re the ones making fandoms unsafe? what about all the pro shipping minors who’re csa survivors that antis invalidate because they can’t convert them to being antis? what about this little shipper right here who’s had antis send them actual gore and mutilation images? Exposing kids to porn is very very wrong, don’t assume I think otherwise, but does being a pro shipper who’s also a young minor warrant that, just because they treat fiction as...fiction? And good for you, that’s your choice to make over personal experiences and I have no reason to criticize but age gap relationships, usually people 18 being with people older are not inherently abusive nor is it wrong (under 17 yeah that’s seedy as hell). My neighbour met his wife at 18 and she was roughly 20 years older than him, glaringly different maturity levels and yet they got married, had a happy family with absolutely no dramas, my cousin is with someone who’s like 8 or 9 years older than her, ended up knocked up at 19 and seem to be doing pretty well together in spite of that situation. You can have your personal views, but don’t project them onto other people just because you don’t like it or because you had bad experiences (though honestly good on you for keeping your kid safe from being exposed to these things, unfortunately no matter how angry you get you really cannot control fandom, we just got to pray another mlp incident won’t happen again, but fandom and most parts of the internet are not child safe places to begin with)
