Dakota grinned, appreciating Toni's enthusiasm even though he couldn't sing. "I wish I could say I'm here to perform with my singing talents, but alas, that's not my strong suit," he replied with a playful shrug. "You'll have to spare the audience from my attempts at hitting the right notes." He gestured to the small crowd that had already started gathering around the microphone area. "I'm sure it's going to be an amazing night with lots of talented musicians and performers. I'm looking forward to enjoying the show and supporting the brave souls who are sharing their talents with all of us."
“Well, thanks for being honest and sparing the customers from your horrible singing then.” She laughed. Though there were other performance options for the evening, Toni wouldn't push the issue. She was just as happy to have audience members as it looked like there were plenty of people willing to take the stage. "Can I get you anything? A coffee? A tea? Anything from the bakery section?"
Seeing as he'd taken the cover of key investor for the shop, it only made sense that he showed up to support the local talent. "Actually, I'm here to see how things are going tonight. I heard about the open mic night. Pretty cool idea," he complicated, though he was amused by her assumption. In all fairness, usually any trip by the shop was a means of playing catch up with Mack. "It's alright, I'm sure I'll bump into her before I leave. So, how's it going? Happy with the turnout so far?"
“Oh.” Toni nodded slowly, curious if the stated reason for Khalil’s visit was that simple. Her prying would have to take a backseat for the moment though, since she had the open mic night to oversee. “Thanks. I’m lucky Mack gave me the greenlight on it. I’m pretty sure we’ve turned a nice profit already.. and some of these performers are just.. super inspiring. Win-win.” When Khalil asked if she was happy with the turnout, Toni laughed. “I would’ve been happy with a turnout of +1, so yeah. I’m definitely happy with this. Can I get you anything?”
"Thank you Toni, ah no I'm just here to observe, but thank you. Hm, well I was interested in trying one of the teas, any good pairings of drinks and bakery items, you'd recommend?" Lorelai figured it would be easier to just shut the idea of moping around down. If she just simply went out, did things and acted as if nothing ever happened it would simply be that way. "I'm Lorelai, by the way."
“Oh sure. No problem.” Toni grabbed a specially-printed tasting menu for the event from the nearest table. She moved to stand beside Lorelai, showing her the options while scanning with her finger for the ones she wanted to recommend. “Lorelai.. that’s gorgeous,” she smiled. “Mm.. darjeeling and a lemon square.. or matcha with vanilla ice cream?”
Aside from Rhia's first check-up, Aslihan hasn't been out of the house much. Wanting to stay home and soak up being with her daughters, Eli, and the cats as much as possible while she continued taking it easy after her operation. However, with the news of the Open Mic Night, she had found herself wanting to go to support Toni, at least for a little while. Yet her parents were quick to offer to watch Alexandria and Rhiannon for the night so that Aslihan and Elijah could go out and have the night together. So that they could have some fun. And of course they were! At least, the moments when she didn't find herself badgering her parents to get an update on the girls, they were. Jasmine had cursed her out in Portuguese the last time she called, so the curator was trying to pace herself. For at least ten minutes. Excusing herself from Eli, she went to go search for Toni when she heard that she was last seen heading towards the backroom. She knocked on the door before heading in, smiling at the younger woman. "Hey, hon," she mused. "I wanted to support you tonight and my parents are watching over the girls. It was about time Eli and I rejoined the living for the night." Resting against the wall, she nodded towards the guitar. "How long have you been playing guitar? I didn't know you could, that's incredible!" ||📜@antoniaxmoreira
Toni paused the movement of her fingers on the guitar strings, her smile widening when Asli shared her intention to support Toni’s event. “Aww, that’s so sweet.” She was of course disappointed that the baby didn’t seem to be in tow, but she didn’t want to seem ungrateful for Asli’s visit in the least. She was probably just enjoying a little down time, which she likely wouldn’t get all that often. “Oh,” Toni glanced down at the instrument in her hands. “Mm.. two years on and off maybe?” she shrugged. “Hey, I’m a jill of all trades. I have plenty of hidden talents.” She laughed lightly. "I was thinking about gracing the stage with a song."

"Here to see boss lady?" Toni presumed, her eyes landing on a tall man who had become a familiar face to her at Deja Brew. As charming at the man seemed in their brief encounters, Toni couldn't shake the fact that something seemed sus about him. She just couldn't figure out what. At the very least, she knew it had something to do with her boss - who he'd visited at odd hours behind closed doors. It wasn't her business, at all, but she couldn't help the urge to know what was up between them. "She's around here somewhere.. I think."

Experiencing a rare case of nerves, Toni retreated to the backroom of the coffee shop to take a minute for herself. She propped her guitar on her lap and positioned her hands on the strings to tune up relatively easily, but still she felt the butterflies beginning to circle. It had been a while since she’d performed in front of anyone, but she wanted to try tonight. Providence Peak represented a fresh start, so she might as well make the most of it, right? She happened to glance toward the doorway just as she opened her mouth to sing, spotting Asli there. "Hey mama.." she grinned. "I didn't expect you to be here."

Toni took a break from MCing duties to mingle with some café patrons while the next performer set up on stage. She smiled politely as a gorgeous older woman made her way into the cozy coffee shop. "Welcome to Deja Brew's Open Mic Night.. I'm Toni. If you're interested in getting on stage, let me know. In the meantime.. can I interest you in a special drink or bakery item to celebrate the event?"

"Decided to show up on Open Mic Night, huh?" Toni greeted the unfamiliar face, hopeful that he'd come to participate. While her boss wasn't a micro-manager by any means, Toni still felt some pressure for this event to go on successfully. If Deja Brew had a line of people out the door ready to bear their souls on stage, Toni would be content that she'd nailed it. "Are you here to perform or to spectate? You'll get bonus points for the first option."
if you're not at Open Mic Night, i'm unfriending you 😛

"I swear, it's designed for torture-" Jeanie gestured emphatically, narrowly missing knocking the coffee cup in front of her across the table. She didn't notice, her rant the only thing she was focused on. "Seriously, it's inhumane. Who even came up with the idea?"
Tinder was cursed, at least Jeanie was pretty sure it was, and she'd spent the last five minutes sitting across from Toni, complaining about the last two terrible dates she'd been on and the awkwardly dry responses people always seemed to reply with when they'd messaged you first. Whoever invented dating apps deserved prison time, she thought. They were a nightmare.
Well, they weren't all bad. Much to her delight, she and Toni had become friends after meeting through Tinder, but that wasn't the point. "I mean, I know it's not totally awful. Obviously I'm glad that we met, but with romantic shit it just feels too clinical now, y'know? Like sometimes I just want to have my own stupid version of a cheesy rom-com movie, I don't want to be some dude's weekend hook-up." It was a little hypocritical considering she initiated those hook-ups a lot of the time, but she would always be the first to admit her choices were messy at best. "Ugh. How do people do it? Does anyone even meet in real life anymore?"
Toni dipped her spoon into her small dish of rice pudding, smirking as Jeanie vented about the pitfalls of online dating. She let the other woman have the floor since she had a lot to gripe about, looking for a pause for breath before she chimed in to agree. “I don’t disagree with you. It’s rough out there.” Toni had had a few misses herself via Tinder upon arriving to town, but she was taking a break from the apps now, focusing on building her in-person connection with Leila. “Yeah, I get it J. I also never understood how people say you’ll find the person when you’re not looking-- I mean -- if you’re not looking, won’t you miss them when they show up? I dunno..it all feels like it’s too complicated whatever you do.” She smiled, eating a spoonful of cinnamon-flavored deliciousness. “Mm. Well.. I kinda had a meet- cute at the coffee shop when I first got here..and we're dating now. So.. it does happen.”
And there it was, the witty remark that he'd expected from the start. "Funny, but who likes bitter coffee? Make it sweet. It does the same shit," he countered smoothly and without an ounce of shame. He'd tested out a few drinks in his time, but if he was going to overpay for something, he was at least going to enjoy every last sip. "If you want, add another shot or whatever. It'll be a long day." He wasn't sure how much that would jack up the price, but three shots would be more than enough and the added flavor and syrup would balance out the added bitterness too.
“Hey, listen. The customer is always right.” Toni replied with a slow nod and a sarcastic grin. What did she care if he wanted sugar in a cup? Money in the register was the same regardless of the item purchased. She wasn't forced to drink it. “Yeah?” her brow quirked up with curiosity as she did as Atlas suggested, giving him another shot of espresso. “What’s gonna make it so long?”
The fact that Toni was still there and hadn't totally bailed on her felt reassuring, that perhaps her lack of experience over the years wasn't something that would push everyone away. Letting her fingers tangle in with Toni's, Leila quirked her head to the side, smile tugging gently across her lips. "I mean, for sure if I had to rank it against all the other kisses in my life, top ten easy," she replied back with a teasing grin.
“Oh wow. Top ten?” Toni laughed, amused by Leila’s teasing. “You’re gonna make me work for top five, I guess. Sheesh.” While the other woman had initially seemed antsy about the prospect of a kiss, Toni hoped that she’d calmed those worries at least a little bit. That second kiss surely seemed like it. Toni rubbed the back of Leila’s hand, leaning close to her ear so she could hear her better over the music pumping in the club. “Dance with me. And I'll see what I can do about improving my rank.”
He looked between the container of coffee and the woman in charge of the container of coffee and offered a sideways grin. "I'm not complaining about the musical number at all." He assured her, pulling out his wallet as he got ready to order his drink and maybe a snack. "Been busy so far this morning?"
Toni smiled. The customer had made the right choice by offering flattery. “Okay then.. Maybe next time I’ll make you buy tickets.” She joked, freeing her hands of the coffee container she’d been holding. She wiped her hands on her apron, mostly from habit. “Hm. A little more than usual..” Toni replied, “but peoples’ energies have been good.” And so have the tips. “Know what you’d like or do you need a minute? We have fresh lemon squares this week, if you're interested.”
The question immediately brought Leila to a halt, eyes widening as she thought about it. She definitely thought that Toni was a badass and she definitely liked Toni, so perhaps there was something to that. "I - maybe? I mean, I could...yeah," she hummed back in agreement, words starting to falter as Toni leaned in closer. Leila had spent a lot of time imaging what her first kiss might be like and much to her surprise it was everything she could have asked for. It was someone she found herself quite captivated by, it was sweet, it wasn't pushy. It was just enough not to feel pressured, which was exactly the speed that Leila knew she needed. There was a shy smile on her face as she pulled back, teeth biting at her lower lip. "I do. Like you, I mean," she confirmed before leaning back forward, this time initiating another kiss.
Toni wasn’t shy about pursuing someone she liked, so it felt natural for her to kiss Leila when she did. She only hoped that it wasn’t too soon for Leila because she didn’t want to push her away. The soft expression on Leila’s sweet face allayed her worries about that. Toni didn’t even have the change to respond before Leila was leaning in again for another kiss. She merely smiled and accepted. It seemed that they were both on the same page. Upon the close of their second kiss now, Toni slid her hand down Leila's arm until she clasped her hand in her own. "So.. what did you think?"
Molly rolled her eyes. Dramatically. As was the way she did a lot of things. Taking her own drink, she flopped down in the chair opposite Toni, legs slung over the arm unceremoniously as she glanced in the direction of her best friend. "When was the last time I got caught for doing anything?" She was banking on the other having not kept track of just how many times she'd been caught and probably spent the night in a county lock up somewhere — but in her defense, most of those situations had been under the influence and who would rob a bank while under the influence? Her gaze dropped from Toni's as she focused on her seltzer, knocking once on the top of the can before popping it open and taking a sip while the good fizz was still on top. "Probably, want me to ask? He said I remind him of his sister and apparently, he loves his sister, so I'm guessing he's got an even bigger fund I could tap into if I wanted."
Toni held her tongue. There were plenty of occasions that she could name off the top of her head, but she’d have to incriminate herself in a dozen of them. They were a dynamic duo after all. “No.” She shook her head, laughing the suggestion off. Even if the man was generous or dumb enough to give Molly money for someone he’d never met, Toni didn’t like to accept handouts. “I don’t wanna end up owing anyone else.” She sighed and took another sip from her drink. "The owner of Le Cirque offered me a part-time gig..I think I'll just take her up on that." She shrugged. "As far as.. she who shall not be named? I dunno.. I can block her?"
His sisters friends were his friends, even if they tried to convince him that they had hooked up and he was an asshole for forgetting about it. "Hey you," he greeted with a cheeky smile and low laugh. A question about his sister danced on the tip of his tongue, but he opted to swallow it down. "Alright, before you say anything, I like coffee," he prefaced with a shrug. He just didn't like how bitter it tasted now that he knew it didn't have to. "I'll take a large... caramel macchiato. Extra pump of vanilla and extra caramel drizzle."
A smirk formed on Toni’s lips when Atlas proactively gave a disclaimer seemingly in an effort to avoid being teased. He learned quickly. “Uh huh..” she waited for his followup, poised to laugh at whatever silly thing he was bound to say next. When he ordered, Toni couldn’t help but snort. “I thought you said you liked coffee. Would you like some with all that caramel?” she shook her head, but obliged since the customer was right, stepping back from the counter to start prepping Atlas’ macchiato.
