reminder to tag your fics/add cws properly
if you don't feel like tagging, at least clarify it's dddne content, although you should always tag
hate sex does not mean lack of consent, add a noncon or dubcon tag if needed. any other form of abuse should also be tagged
degradation/insults does not imply the use of slurs, add a tag of which slurs will be used
violence does not mean character death, add a tag about it
use the reader insert tag properly: if you describe any non-universal features, say so (i.e. blue eyed!reader, black!reader, etc.). if you do not want to assign a gender to the reader but want to describe their anatomy, it's okay to write amab!reade, afab!reader, intersex!reader. do not state it's a reader insert if it's an oc written in 1st or 2nd pov, that's still about the oc
for readers: it's okay if a creator you like or something you see something on your fyp that seems interesting to you has a tag that doesn't suit you. nothing is written specifically for you, and even requests don't magically know what you look like/prefer. don't be whiny about it, just move on or reread something you already liked
if your fic is a slowburn and only the ending is dddne, still mark those tags at the beginning. it doesn't matter if you think it will 'ruin the surprise', people should still know what exactly they are reading
if you don't want minors interacting with sfw works, also mark those as mdni. they can't guess if you're mdni based off the vibes of your post in their feed
it's better to over-tag than to miss a tag
if you even have a hunch that something is supposed to be tagged, tag it
and also remember that just because someone reposts something, it doesn't mean they are willing to write it. lots of people who repost what their friends/moots write as support, not necessarily because they want similar requests or are into those specific kinks. keep this in mind especially with sfw mdni accounts, vanilla accounts that repost dddne, and dddne accounts that repost sfw/vanilla sex
alright, i'll be the one to say it. ao3 and tumblr becoming "mainstream" did so much damage to the community and the writers. i have seen loads of videos and posts about:
1. people hating on writers and fics. writing is something we do for free and for fun. if you stumble upon a fanfic that isn't necessarily your cup of tea or you just don't like, scroll. dont read it. literally leave their page. you don't know if this could be the author's first work that they're so excited about, you dont know if the language they're writing in isn't their first language, you dont know that the writer could be a literal teen and loads of other reasons. fanfictions don't HAVE to be perfect. you write what you want to write because we do it for fun and enjoyment and we want to share that to the world. seriously, what is the wrong with that?..
2. x reader consumers getting WAY to entitled. the number of tiktoks i've seen that "i run a strict program when it comes to reading fanfics." girl you aint running shit. this is FAN FICTION you're reading. F A N F I C T I O N. there is no denying that most fanfiction writes are beyond talented but just because you read one fanfic that exceeds your expectations doesn't give you the right to talk down on others that don't. people have their own personal writing style, their way of doing things and you talking shit on that isn't right.
at the end of the day, we are all humans, reading and writing is what we do and what we're meant to do. and for you to talk shit about a person WRITING is so insane. we are humans. not some robots that you can tell what to do so you can consume it.
i've seen so so many authors take down their fanfics and losing all motivation to write because of a hate comment. DONT LIKE DONT READ‼️
and to every author reading this, this community values your work and your contribution. we love u and, please, never let anyone's negative words have an effect on you.
tip jars are not paywalls
I need someone to walk me through the logic of fanfic writers having Patreons.
Not tip jars. Not Ko-fi links where someone throws you a few dollars because they liked your work.
Patreons.
With tiers. With exclusive written content. For fanfiction.
And I want to be clear before the notes go sideways: the labor is real. I know that. Long-form fic is difficult, time-consuming work, and the skill involved is not in question. Nobody is saying writers do not deserve to eat.
But the material is not yours.
You did not create these characters. You did not build the world, design the power system, or lay the emotional groundwork that makes people care enough to search for fic in the first place. You are doing something skillful with someone else’s intellectual property, and skill applied to borrowed material does not generate ownership. It generates contribution.
To fandom.
To a community that has historically existed because this work circulates freely.
The moment you put fic behind a paywall — exclusive chapters, early access, tiered content — you are not just asking people to support your craft. You are selling access to characters you do not own inside a space built on the understanding that we do not do that.
Readers become customers. The gift economy becomes a marketplace. And you are functionally running a business on IP that is not yours.
“No one is forcing you to pay” is not the counterargument people think it is. The issue was never individual choice. It is about what fandom is supposed to be, and what happens to that when we start treating it like a storefront.
Write fic. Write it beautifully. Let people throw money at you because they love what you do. Link a tip jar. Accept support.
But gating fanfiction behind a subscription model? For characters someone else created?
Please be serious.
And yes, I know I have only been writing JJK fic for about two weeks, but this has baffled me from the moment I noticed it. Tip jars make sense to me. Community support makes sense to me.
Paywalling fanfiction does not.
Reading a fanfic that’s absurdly OOC but still enjoying it because that’s what fandom is about babyyyyy
I was rewatching The Lord of the Rings, and the Gollum scene got stuck in my head way too hard x,)

"Don't take this the wrong way, but you're quite large for an elf"
(There is an extra 🔞 page to this on my Patreon!)
I watched Deadpool & Wolverine very late and my brain had to process things. plus I finally wanted to draw Lae. Hope you enjoy this nonsense crossover.
Quick reminder for fanfic writers both on here and ESPECIALLY on AO3…
If your main character has a name and described appearance, DO NOT use the character x reader tag. Like…seriously.
That is an OC. Use the “x oc” or “x original character” tag. Stop using the “x reader” tag. It will not give you more reach because people looking through the “x reader” tag aren’t going to read it. Three guesses why.
You are also making the filtering system null and void, which is harmful ESPECIALLY for archival sites like ao3 where the tags and filtering system are specifically there to make things easier. It’s basic fandom etiquette guys. Common sense and consideration for others. It won’t kill you to tag things correctly.
