The update will be great, and we will have so much new thing to discover and messing up with. But.. the sadness. The morbid grievance hanging above us all as the player of this game, knowing it will be the abrupt final.
To finally experience the snippet of Leviathan, Crown of Sorrow and Eater of Worlds feels like fever dream for me who been staying long enough to play the Red War campaign up to Renegades.
And that those we fight for the last 11 months will meant nothing. That suddenly, everything is... okay?
I should be excited. But, what I'm feeling right now is dread, hollow and grief. It shouldn't end, like this. This, 'moments of triumph' doesn't feel earned.
I legit shed tears I missed them so much
You wish to stay here forever.
6 years ago when i really started making art in the community, one of the earliest things i drew was Riven.
Time is a funny thing, isn't it.
COD: MW4 is coming at October 23rd!
The trailer looked sick. but I don't think the original characters will be the main focus in this game. Seems lots of new guys in there... A bit worried if my baby (Graves) will have screentime for over 10 minutes or at all...
Guardian Diary: Entry #1
I never participated in a time trial event before. Let alone solo clear. But this time I decide Imma give my best try and et voila! I completed warlord of ruin with bootstrap loadout and prayers! :D
Giving me the vibe of: "do not look at me, I've put up absolute dogshit of armor and weapons". It was 2 hours into the dungeon and I don't make any progress, so I just wear anything that has good stat, and don't care about the aesthetic anymore 😭
At first I thought, the Jon Chunk strat will do. But that thang is absolutely useless for a solo op. So, one man army strat (arc soul goes brrr) does the trick! Also, thank you Esoterickk for the tips!
Then, the Equilibrium TT. Originally, we were do it with a clan mate, we did numerous tries until we get the sub 20 minutes clear. But, he went MIA at D-Day, so we went LFG and it took us a couple try and we did it!
a mandatory celebratory dance! Was quite stressful doing it, but once we got it, it was delirium!
So uh.. what are yalls Guardians doing after the forced retirement, how are they supposed to live? Podcasts? Social media influencers? Marketers??? Oh my god I can’t let them do that are you kidding me
this case where everything resolved itself, yeah? The earth is healing, The IXs reconcile and Lodi manage to keep the peace between them, and Xivu and her sister are living happily in their world...
I would be a nurse in the last city, joining my partner who is a doctor (also a guardian, like Ana Bray, he wakes up with his hospital nametag and reconcile with his past). But we are still members of the Vanguard, which we will be there if needed in case anything decide to test our peace ❤️
My Titan will serve as the Titan commander. And my former disciple hunter (which happened to be the brother of my partner)... he will be The Drifter. Doing shady stuff and collecting interesting stuffs.
Can I see something? What was everyones favorite:
Expansion?
Season (not including episodes)?
Episode?
Background Lore?
Song, either official release or unreleased?
Cinematic?
Character (Ally)?
Character (Enemy)?
BONUS: Whats a story beat/thread youre sad to not get any continuation?
Mine:
Final Shape
Season of Arrivals
Heresy
Story of Shayura
Interference (unreleased)
Witness' deception cinematic in WQ
Mithrax!
Rhulk
The story i wish we got to see was Xivu Arath. I wouldve loved to see the Hive God of War in-game
Forsaken (So much to do.. and it's so long and cinematic and awesome)
Season of Opulence. The menagerie were so fun, me and my clanmates having so much fun doing this.
Episode: Heresy (to get a glimpse of Oryx story was awesome, as I've been dying to play D1 in PC (as I don't have console))
The Ikora - Lodi interaction post EoF
god there's so many.. toss between Oneirophobia (badass raid song) or The List (the hardest dungeon music ever)
The one where III took over Lodi and speak through him. It's so touching and neat to end the campaign.
Lodi
The Witness (or Rhulk.. or Nezarec... man they are all awesome)
This Fate saga.. so many interesting stories they introduced. The Earth is dying and the cosmic is preparing a war that might be the end of whole world.
I'm sad we won't find out if Ikora Rey becomes Vanguard Commander. It has been a few years of getting little hints to it. After Targe died in Final Shape, I was very quickly wondering what Bungie would do with Zavala. Episode: Hersey gave us our first major change in the Mirror Imago lore entry. In it, Ikora tells Chalco she is going to be helping out with the vanguard even more and it's a full time job and she can't be the hidden leader anymore (she doesn't specify why, but it's obvious it's because Zavala is lightless and is stepping back a bit). Ikora wanted Chalco to become the hidden leader. Chalco of course agrees, saying she would've been mad if Ikora asked anyone else. And then in Edge of Fate, the Nine kept referring to Ikora as "Commander." Ikora even is annoyed at this, wonder why they keep calling her this.
Like I initially thought Zavala might step down, either stepping down as just Commander and staying Titan Vanguard or completely stepping down. But is the Nine planning on killing him? Or do they consider him so unessential to their machinations that they just call Ikora Commander instead?
And who would become Titan Vanguard after Zavala? They did a good job exploring the possibility of Crow becoming hunter vanguard long before he became a vanguard. But like most of the Titan's are kinda doing other things. Sloane is partially Taken and it seems like she's fine with having a lesser position. Saladin is on Caiatl's council (I guess Zavala and him could switch, but I don't see that happening). Saint has helped in a temporary capacity being titan Vanguard during the Final Shape, but I can't imagine he'd take it again and he's the trials vendor. And Lord Shaxx is busy with Crucible. Orin is another titan who now isn't emissary, so it's possible, but I can't see it (and she's lightless too).
And the whole thing with the city being in a very unstable place politically. Season of the Splicer was definitely one of my favorite seasons in terms of city politics lore. Bungie was definitely working towards another big change with the city's structure. It would've been interesting to see what they would've done with all this. I mainly just want to see my favorite warlock be commander, but also I just can't imagine who would fill the role of Titan Vanguard at this point.
all this hanging threads and dire situations can lead into a soft reset for D3, and start the story fresh in there.. but noo.. greed taking over and we won't see this beautiful world evolving or survive from here...
here’s a nice lady, she’s 5′3″ and i PROMISE she won’t bite you too hard
This final Destiny 2 update is, understandably, being compared to D1's Age of Triumph update; it's even called "Monument of Triumph". It's certainly a beefy update, with a full refresh of world, playlist, and endgame loot, new abilities, the glorious return of SRL, and a whole slew of other really neat stuff.
But to me, the only similarity it shares is that it is the final live service update, and probably doesn't deserve to have the word "Triumph". D1's Age of Triumph came at what can only be called a high point in the story of Destiny. We'd successfully fought off every major threat to humanity over the course of three years, rediscovered lost knowledge, laid old ghosts (no, not that kind) to rest. Sure, there were lingering threats - the rest of the Hive Pantheon, the Cabal sending a distress signal home, the true master of the Darkness, among others - but there was an unmistakable high after the story of Rise of Iron; the Devil Splicers were foiled and the threat of the Plaguelands finally neutralized, along with a fresh start for the Iron Lords. Things were looking up.
Destiny 2 does not have this benefit. Maya the Conductor is still out there. The Taken still have a new master. A significant number of Guardians were lost at Tharsis, a significant blow that can't be easily remedied, and Dredgen Bael still remains at large. The Nine's prophecies still remain unfulfilled, and the problems left by III's death unresolved. Humanity is perhaps in straits nearly as dire as the start of The Final Shape, and the citizens of the Last City are moving towards abolishing the Vanguard by force.
Destiny 2's final update is certainly a monument. But I don't see any Triumph.
great summary.. another reason for the very bitter taste it left the way they handle this farewell.
wish people would stop telling d2 fans to go to warframe to satisfy this new destiny story shaped hole in their hearts because it doesn't work like that. warframe story isn't at all comparable and that's not an insult or to call warframe's lesser or that destiny's writing was any sort of perfect gold standard either.
the things people enjoyed from destiny's writing aren't going to be found in warframe's. i say this as someone who enjoys warframe and it's story a lot, but like when people used to say 'just play warframe lol' in reaction to d2 game decisions, the only thing in common between the two is some degree of a scifi setting and that's it.
this.
I've been trying to enjoy Warframe, but I just can't. It's not a bad game at all, it's just not for me.
Warframe is special game, just like any other game. You can't just replace one to another and hope it will fill the hole.
The heartbreak is coming from how abrupt this all feel. Especially when you still play the game. Kudos to the ones who leave after TFS. Maybe that's what I should've done as well, but, I do still enjoy the expansions after that. And this is just not the way you do a farewell of a 12 years journey... not after you unveiled another story following the greatest ending of a saga.
and it's totally fair that it's not for you! warframe has its own brand of uniqueness that won't work for everyone, just like how i had friends who couldn't get into d2 years ago when the game was in a better place. the things we love may not be loved by everyone. i wonder the same if i should've just stopped after tfs or even eof (i did enjoy eof personally but that's bias due to loving ikora lmao)
it was such an unfortunate place in the story following to make this decision. but i wonder how much of it was a decision of the game makers vs an enforced thing by higher ups, considering how long the game suffered due to their decisions.
i hope we all find something else that, while can't and won't replace destiny necessarily but can bring us a similar kind of fondness for story and positive experiences we got out of it after everything.
this is definitely Sony speaking. Especially after the 750+ millions USD impariment of Bungie value in their quarterly call.
I feel very sorry to the developers of this game. Rumors has it that they know since 6 months ago. Imagine working this game with timer 'Final Shape Looming' on their mind 😭
I hope we will find that, friend 🥲
I also hope that, somehow Bungie can get rid of those greedy bastards that is their execs and Sony to encourage Bungie to make Destiny 3 and provide them the necessary resources. 🥲
I have a lot of favourite memories but it was that first scene when Ghaul launched us to the ground off of the tower? Ship? I can't remember exactly what it was. I loved the high stakes feeling to the beginning of the game and the red war was just especially memorable and important to me. The final battle when we had to go through the last city and Cayde(my beloved 😩) was attacking cabal with colonel just made me so happy.
Oh man yes! The Red War was such an experience! Walking through the City, no Light, little hope. And then following the dream and the Farm, and the final battle...
Man I'm gonna cry. It was very high stakes indeed.
Share your favorite D2 memories
man.. I would pay to be able to replay the Red War again 😭

no one look at me
one more expansion please.. it doesn't have to be as grand as TFS but... just as closure and more fitting goodbye. please...
Summed up perfectly
Absolutely insane place to leave off story wise. Yeah so basically the 4th dimensional spirit of the planet earth is dead and the very laws of physics are breaking down. Cya 👋
they absolutely should do a final expansion. Just to tied everything up and bid their actual goodbye of this game as they focusing to do whatever they want.
not these.. half hearted article while scrapping their roadmap and promises/potential to the bin..
