For some reason, I had the silly idea my grandmother would bury us all. She was still so strong despite her old age (very, very old age) and the diabetes she was diagnosed with 40 years ago or so. She never took her meds, she ate what she pleased and she drank as much as she wished.

My family would joke about her, her cynical personality, her laziness, the machismo she had inherited from her family which made her openly say things like "you have to tend to your brother cause you're a woman and he is a man". My brother may have a positive image of her and he will miss her, but my story is different.

She used to live with us when we were kids. When I was little, very little, I loved her, when I was 10 years old, I feared her and resented her. When I was 13 years old I despised her, when I was 18 years old I was indifferent towards her. When I reached my 24 years, I pittied her and she even inspired some tenderness in me.

I think all women in my family have guts of stone. In spanish it sounds better, "entrañas de pedernal" and we all inherited them from her. My mother, my aunt, my cousins, they are all merciless like she was. I dont know if I am, but if I am, it's because of her.

Thank you grandma, you never really loved me, but if I was strong enough to survive the way you hit me and hurt me when I was a child was because of the part of me that is you. Your guts of stone are what made me strong enough not to suffer for you.

Thanks to this post I went down on a tuggoffelees/cats rabbit hole and I can’t seem to get out so thank you for the new obsession, and now I NEED to read a cats AU with Eames as RTT and Arthur as Mr. M or I’ll never rest in peace.

I’m rather happy about it, though.
