i think the biggest takeaway from the pokemon sword and shield discourse is that game freak employees should unionize

For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter
The fucking Shiba judge.
Our queen! LOL.
I think this is a conversation that fandom needs to have in general.
When you encounter something that makes you uncomfortable while you’re playing a video game, reading something on AO3, browsing Twitter, or scrolling through Tumblr, you have the power to remove yourself. You can stop reading, you can hit the back button, you can block/mute, you can turn the device off entirely.
“Consent” has a very specific meaning. When you’re consuming a piece of media that a creator has posted on their own personal account, you are in their space. That is a one-sided interaction. They’re not at all involved, they can’t reach through the screen to hit the back button for you. They’re not “violating your consent” or “pushing your boundaries”, because you are the one in control.
We need to stop acting like creators are 100% responsible for the mental well-being of every person who could possibly encounter their work, and instead start taking responsibility for our own online experiences.
Remember when Persona 5 came out, and then people got upset because the game required you to acknowledge on starting the game that it was a work of fiction without any direct connection to reality.
And that if you refused to do so, the game would kick you out entirely.
People got actually honest to god MAD over the idea that they were expected to treat fiction like fiction.
There was at least one big name professional “journalist” who claimed he couldn’t get past the first minute of P5 because it refused to proceed until he admitted that this was a work of fiction and he was apparently incapable of doing that.
This is such a bizarre concept to me because media is inherently passive--you choose to watch, to read, to play, etc. A movie or a book or a game can't "violate" your consent, because you can stop anytime things become uncomfortable. You are in control of your experience. If you can't acknowledge fiction as fiction, maybe you shouldn't be interacting with it.

Whale Shark Gliding Through Bioluminiscent Algae _ Mike Nulty
SPACE SHARK
[ID: A silent black and white video showing a whale shark swimming through black water studded with small dots of white, or bioluminescent algae. Combined with the white spots along the whale shark's entire back, the video gives the strong impression that the shark is a being swimming through space. End ID]

one of those ig daily affirmations graphics that says “i will not freak out and assume i have covid when again i wake up tomorrow morning exhibiting symptoms of existing in winter”
i made a joke on tiktok that simply suggested some people who don't currently identify as trans men might identify as trans men in the future and WOW the comments have been telling
"but being a man is kinda bad :/" "i'd rather stay in denial than ever be called a man" "don't manifest this for me i don't want to be a man" shut up shut up shut up
like what possesses some people to say that kind of stuff *to a literal trans man*? is it not just...basic common sense that telling a trans person you would hate being like them is A Bad Thing To Do? do people just...hate trans men so much that they don't see how rude it is to comment stuff like that?
the whole joke was literally based on something i did when i was in denial about being a trans man, and nearly every comment i've gotten on it has just reminded me exactly what mindset stopped me from getting out of that denial for so long
the idea that someone could be a trans man isn't some sort of evil accusation, and you would only see it as one if you think being a trans man is bad. the idea that you can share experiences with trans men despite not identifying as one also isn't some sort of evil accusation, and you would only see it as one if you think being a trans man is bad
the way people feel the need to defend themselves as if it's some impending threat they have to fend off is WILD and like..scarily reminiscent of the exact rhetoric cis transphobes use against us
if you're not a trans man, take a moment to ask yourself why being faced with trans manhood makes you so anxious and defensive, because i can pretty much guarantee it does, even if you're not aware of it, and y'all really need to unpack that
Just a gentle reminder, folks: the whole “men are unrelentingly BAD; women are universally GOOD” thing is pure radical feminist rhetoric, and they’ve been saying it since about the early 1970s. So firstly, it’s not the liberal argument you think it is (it’s based on biological essentialist ideas that there are definitely Men and Women and this is determined by the genitalia you were born with and the gender identity you were assigned at birth as a result of same), and secondly, you’re not actually saying anything new, outrageous, exciting, or factually accurate.
Any rhetoric which casts a large percentage of the population as being unremittingly evil is more likely to be wrong than right. Doesn’t matter if the decision is being made on the grounds of race, religion, ethnicity, disability status, social class markers, geographical location, biological sex, or gender.
mutuals do this
I made this for class and am proud! Seems like it could find a home on tumblr
