WITCH TIP

I’m so mad I didn’t think of this sooner!!!

For all of my witches out there that need their morning coffee/tea-

Take like 3 minutes out of your night to pick out which mug you’re gonna use in the morning, and then put a crystal in the mug overnight!!  I tried it last night by putting a blue lace agate in one of my mugs overnight to help me stay calm during my stressful day today and I think it’s a great way to infuse your mug with positive energies!!!

UPDATE:

So some of you are making excellent points about certain crystals leaving residue in the mug or toxic crystals.

Obvi- do your research on crystals before you put them or anything that they’ve touched in your body.  Please don’t make yourself sick!!!  I’ve seen people talking about using sigils instead, or putting the crystal inside another cup and then putting that cup inside of the mug, or rinsing out the mug before you use it, or flipping the mug over on top of the crystal so it isn’t actually in contact with the mug.  All of these are great ideas!!! I haven’t used a toxic stone yet but if need be I’m probably gonna put mine in a plastic baggie and then inside the mug.

Creating a Witch’s Workspace

I don’t have an altar. The word ‘altar’ indicates a surface/structure on which offerings or sacrifices are made. What I have is a workspace.  My workspace acts as a locus and focus for my craft that is accessible and useful and -also- inspiring. If you want to incorporate any art, craft or skill into your life, having a dedicated space for it makes all the difference. If you’re lucky, you may have a whole room for your work, but a desk, table, the top of a dresser or even a shelf work just fine. 

A few tips for creating your workspace;

Whatever space you have chosen, make sure it’s clean. Cleanse the space both physically and magically. You should probably do this regularly, unless cobwebs are a part of your aesthetic. ;)

Figure out what you need the space for and how much ‘clear’ surface is required. You may use your space for preparing ingredients, working spells, performing divination (is there room for tarot spreads?) writing in your grimoire, etc. Before you start adding ‘stuff’ leave enough room for these tasks.

What to put on your workspace? It can be as cluttered or minimalist as you like. To start with; any tools you actually use in practice (which aren’t just decorative or symbolic), the ingredients you work with regularly, books you consult frequently, your grimoire/notebook, divinatory tools, supplies including paper, candles, matches, thread, ink etc.

Once you’ve got the necessities down, you can decorate to your heart’s content. Things I have included in my own, or seen on other witch’s workspaces; candles, stones, feathers, bottles, jars, dried herbs, living plants, shells, bones, rock salt, flowers, incense, mortar and pestle, small cauldrons, branches, bells, scales, crystals, boxes, scrying mirrors, a compass.

Avoid symmetry! This is not an altar or shrine, do not lay everything out perfectly in matching pairs. It doesn’t have to be symbolic, it has to be accessible and useful. If you create the ‘perfect’ arrangement, you won’t want to mess it up. 

Use all of the space, that means above and below your surface too. Put up small shelves to store your stones, or a spice rack for herbs. Hang drying ingredients or pin up charts and diagrams. Store bulky things underneath if possible. Use candelabras to give more height and light. 

Change it up! I don’t mean with seasonal decorations, but based on what you’re using/working on at the moment, what inspires you, what you found on your walk last Thursday etc. If it feels too cluttered, remove stuff, if it feels too empty, go scavenging.

This is not a ‘sacred space’, it can be beautiful and inspiring, but it is the equivalent of the artist’s studio, the cook’s kitchen, the carpenter’s bench, the writer’s desk. It’s yours, it’s there to be used, enjoy!

What is a third eye? [Edited]

I am a medium, which means I can see and communicate with spirits. This means I possess what is known as a “third eye”.

It’s not a literal third eye in the middle of my forehead, for one thing. It’s metaphorical. It simply means that I can see things that exist on other levels of existence as easily as I can see things on this plane of existence. 

There are also third ears and third noses, meaning you can hear and smell things that are happening on a different plane. I know, it’s weird.

Let’s talk about the concept of planes of existence before I go on any further. You know when people talk about ghosts and say they’re “trapped in a place between our world and the next”? That’s a plane of existence. It exists close enough to ours to the point where those who have died can come through it and interact with our world. Some people (like me) believe there is a plane higher than that one where the afterlife or Heaven is located, and some people believe in a large variety of planes, like a plane where our souls go when we dream, for example. 

So, if you possess a third eye, you can see through to the next plane easily and see ghosts and stuff. You can also see auras, which is like an energy around people, and you can read auras to determine how people are feeling and what’s in store for them, etc.

How do you know if you have a third eye? My short answer is, you see dead people. The long answer is this: You can see ghosts and spirits in places where others can’t.

Period. End of discussion. It’s not a matter of “Do I have the ability to unlock this mysterious third eye?” because it is not. It’s something you are born with. You have it or you don’t.

But what if you saw spirits as a small child and grew out of it? This question gets asked to me more often than not. It’s really common for children to see spirits because they’re more willing to accept the fact that there’s a friendly man in their bedroom that wants to play. If a friendly man appeared to you when you were two, that would be awesome, but if you were ten, that would be terrifying. Therefore, spirits aren’t gonna just appear to ten year olds, because they’re not trying to scare you (most of the time).

It is possible that you do have a third eye and it is closed, as it is possible to open and close it. Maybe you saw spirits all the time as a child, and when you told some grown-up they sat you down and explained what imaginary friends were, and you came to the conclusion that spirits were all in  your head and you stopped seeing them. It’s possible you closed your third eye. It is possible to open it again, and it takes lots of meditation and some good communication with spirits. Do the reverse to close it. 

So let me break this down.

Scenario 1: You see spirits and ghosts regularly, you have a third eye.

Scenario 2: You saw spirits constantly as a child, but as you grew and became more skeptical you stopped seeing them, your third eye is closed.

Scenario 3: One time you saw a ghost, you do not have a third eye, you saw an entity that was powerful enough to come through the next plane and be visible in ours.

Scenario 4: You think you saw spirits as a child, you do not have a third eye, you have an overactive imagination.

Scenario 5: You think you might have a third eye and try meditations to open it and nothing happens, you do not have a third eye. 

Scenario 6: You want to have a third eye, you do not have a third eye.

That last one sounds pretty wacky but believe me, after the asks I’ve been getting, it needs to be said. You can’t just decide that you’re gonna have a third eye. You’re born with one or you aren’t. If you have to wonder whether or not you have one, you don’t have one.

EDIT: Hello again everyone. I’m not sure how but this post seems to be the most controversial, as I’ve received plenty of messages saying that everyone has a third eye and anyone can unlock it.

Okay look. As someone with a third eye and has been seeing spirits unwillingly my whole life, trust me in that if you don’t have a third eye, there’s no way you can see spirits the way I can. If that were true, if anyone could have the power to see spirits wherever they wanted, we wouldn’t have paranormal investigation shows, we wouldn’t have to wonder about life after death, and so on. I know some paranormal investigation teams who would love to save thousands of dollars on equipment and be able to see spirits with their own eyes. 

Third eyes are rare. Most people do not have them, period. If you people who have been messaging me and telling me anyone can learn how to open their third eye, then prove it. Find someone and teach them to open their third eye. Go for it.

And also yes, there’s a variety of things people can see with their third eyes, like energy, chakras, auras, etc, but I’m talking about spirits because a) I’m a spirit communication blog, and b) it’s the most debatable. People can kind of tell if they can see auras because it’s obvious, but people seem to be convinced that they thought they saw someone out of the corner of their eye and now they have a third eye and are a medium. 

I’m not trying to be rude. It’s just. I mean. I can’t say “you don’t have a third eye” enough times for people to believe it.

Pendulums: A How To

Okay! I have gotten several asks about pendulums and how to use them. Here is a quick how to if you want to begin using them. This is how I was taught to do it about 15 years ago.

Step One: How to hold it

You want to be sure you are holding it steady so that you get accurate movement from the pendulum. You want to hold the end of the chain (some have a bead or charm that you can hold on to) between your thumb and finger so that the pendulum is hanging down freely. To keep it steady, you can put your elbow on a table. 

Step Two: Learning the Movements

Your pendulum might respond differently than someone else’s, so it is a good idea to learn how yours responds. 

Let the pendulum settle to the center and then ask “Show me yes”. I usually repeat it a few times until it’s swinging really well. Let it settle again and then ask “Show me no”. Repeat this process with “Show me unsure”. 

After you do this, ask it some questions that you already know the answer to so that you can see if it is accurate or not. Use questions like “Is my hair blonde?” or “Am I human?” as these you know for certain what the answer is. If these answers don’t come out correct, start over with asking it “Show me yes” and so on.

Step Three: Questions

Pendulums are better suited for “yes” or “no” questions. If you have a really complicated question, try breaking it up into several simpler questions. One thing I really like about this method of divination is that it gives you direct answers, compared to other methods that require you to try and decipher the answers given to you. 

After I finish asking questions, I always say “thank you”. It was a habit I picked up years ago and is by no means necessary.
