When Sokka teams up with Zuko, they make a pretty good team, they can get stuff done, execute some pretty impressive schemes, but still end up needing the Deus Ex Mai-china to save them, and also the plot armor that Suki comes with for being a Kyoshi Warrior cause it means she can just Do Stuff like singlehandedly take the prison warden hostage. But with the combined strength of each braincell, together they manage to form a coherent thought or two. Still might almost drown in a boiling lake a couple of times but we'll give the execution of the Boiling Rock scheme a solid 7.5/10.

When Aang teams up with Zuko, they turn into Greg and Roderick. Emo older brother and his preppy little brother who loves pokemon or something. Together, they do not even have two braincells to rub together. They are absolutely hilarious, make no mistake. But dudes, if the Sun Warriors hadn't still been around in secret, they would've been fucked. I can picture Zuko on the ride back being like "Aang PLEASE don't tell Katara about the pit of spikes you almost fell into or how I picked up the glowing egg and got us stuck to a ceiling or she's never going to let me go anywhere with you again."

When Katara and Zuko team up they turn into an elite pair of high-profile hitmen. If it had been Katara and Zuko breaking into the Boiling Rock together, the episode would not have needed to be in two parts because they'd be in and out in an afternoon and still make it home in time for dinner.

Zuko and Katara's dynamic (even when they're still enemies) is way more important than Aang's crush on Katara.

Not only Netflix can't erase their scenes, while easily cutting Aang's puppy love, they are still using the soundtrack with the same tittle: 'Katara and Zuko'.

Meaning, there's no way they're cutting the crystal catacombs scene.

So, I don't get it when people tell me that Zuko and Katara have no chemistry at all. Like no, babe, they are fascinating.

Let me preface this post by saying that I don't have strong feelings towards NATLA. I watched the first season; it's meh. It's average. Some choices I liked while others I really disagreed with. Let me also say that I don't have any high hoped for Zutara in the LA, I believe they are just baiting the audience regarding that topic because they know how the ATLA fandom works.

That being said, the S2 trailer has sparked some ideas...

Just imagine: Zuko and Katara meet up in Ba Sing Se as the Blue Spirit and the Painted Lady. They obviously don't know the other's true identities but they work together nonetheless (for what? I don't know, they just do it). Then, they are captured by the Dai Li and their identities are revealed before they get thrown in the Crystal Catacombs. Bonding scene happens, Katara offers to heal Zuko's scar but Aand and Iroh arrive. Everything else happens like in the cartoon and Zuko sides with Azula. He's on his way to the Fire Nation.

But, guess what?!

Turns out Katara lost her mother's necklace in the fight (and this time the show ACTUALLY explains it is her mother's necklace) and Zuko found it before leaving the Catacombs so he hides it and takes it with him to the Fire Nation. He doesn't know why, he just knows he must take it.

i genuinely could never get over zuko and katara in the crystal catacombs............like why are you opening up to your enemy about your childhood trauma, a blackened part of your heart that no one else has really taken seriously or just brushes over........and why are you offering to HEAL your enemy's scar when you've done nothing but fight against one another............and why are you letting your enemy touch the scar that you've developed such a deep shame over............the war is raging on, and the world is breaking itself outside from both flame and stone, and somehow, in between, zuko and katara tethered themselves with these small pieces of tenderness and empathy.......no matter how brief it had been, and no matter how it ended, and no matter how they faced each other again from opposite sides........like it happened and for a moment, everything was possible and love drew in a startled breath
