I donât actually think this is true, but hear me out. Itâs equally pedo and shouldnât be done, but the power dynamic of the genders in our culture makes menâs nsfw treatment of girls more like a hate crime in its mental effects. Theyâre both wrong enough they should never be done, but it is worse from men.

Oh, man. This so pisses me off, but there is so much truth to it. I work in IT. My training class was 30 dudes and me. I stick out. Thatâs expected. But so did the 60-something black dude. You stick out, you have a little more to prove because you canât go unnoticed. The only way for this to change is for more to show up.Â
âWe need more girls in STEM!â Awesome. All kinds of programs and scholarships and companies that need butts in seats to do the work. AndâŠfirst day of class? No one else shows. I was dog sitting a dog once who insisted she had to go out in the middle of the night it was an emergency, so I took her out. Suddenly she starts pointing and barking and I look up and can just make out the outline of a HUGE moose. Iâve been accidentally face to face with a black bear and that scared me less than being up close with a moose. Iâm 5 foot so imagine staring up at an animal several feet taller than you that is debating charging the dog whoâs leash you are holding. I was terrified as I grabbed the dog by her collar to get better control over her and backed up slowly til I was out of line of sight and bolted for the house at a dead run. Did you know most Canadian lake monster stories come from people seeing moose swimming? They are massive animals.
They are massive and they charge. I get so scared when tourists are all âoh yeah, we got out of the car to get a closer look and, yaâll have some mighty impressive animals around here.â Yes, yes we do, and they have mighty tired guardian angels because moose can, and do, charge at people.
Someone my mom worked with died hitting a moose on the highway. Their eyes donât reflect light. In the dark they are literally nothing but a big slightly darker shape in the night. Roughly every year in the town I grew up in, a cow (moose) and her calf will wander through downtown. Maybe once or twice. If sheâs aggressive enough, the local Mounties will escort her through to keep idiots away.
Iâve definitely talked with people who thought moose were deer-sized or maybe horse-sized and I was like NO YOU DONâT EVEN UNDERSTAND MOOSE ARE TERRIFYING

I finally live on a province where moose and deer exist.
I do not drive at night in fear of meeting one. If you hit a moose going 90 on a highway, not only is your car trashed, you are probably trashed. Iâve seen cars that got wrecked and there seems to be a consensus that at least half the time, the giant fucking beastie just shakes itself off and continues gallumphing along the countryside.
If you fucking hit a moose with your car and their legs go through your windshield, congratulations, you are dead. Massive hooves kicking you to death? Yeah.Â

The commenter above who claims that mooseâs eyes donât reflect light is only partially correct; if you shine a flashlight in a mooseâs eyes it will glow like a cat (and then you will probably get killed to death by an annoyed moose) but the reason they are so dangerous to cars at nights is that they are too tall for the headlights to reach. Think about that.

Many âwhite nerd boysâ fall into the categories that you say they donât defend or stand up for. Sure you have your racist, homophobic, misogynistic people that exist as those people exist in any combination within any community. However, in your attempt to âbreak downâ nerdy characteristics that a child may have been bullied for, you come off as homophobic yourself because your post blatantly erases white nerd boys who are: gay, trans, gender NC, who have body issues, mentally ill, autistic, fat, poor, neurodivergent, etc. You lumped in those ânerdy white boysâ with all of the ânerdy white boysâ that you donât like. bury your gays: one lgbt character (or more) is killed. they are one of very few lgbt characters in that piece of media, or at the very least they are one of the few MAIN queer characters of that media. in proportion to the cishet characters, the queer characters have a much higher death toll, for no particular reason.bury your gays often quickly follows a character being revealed as gay/in a relationship with a same-sex character.
if you have already buried your gays, hereâs how you can fix it: make more queer characters and DONâT kill them off (or make them suffer disproportionate abuse). you can also just. straight up bring them back if the story allows it somehow (see: the adventure zone- they brought back a dead lesbian couple as driads and made more queer characters)
killing off an lgbt character without it fitting into previous trope: have plenty of lgbt characters in your story, so that youâre not killing the one representation there is in it. make that death matter. it canât be some unceremonious/dumb or avoidable death presented as a casualty (see: voltron, the 100 - both unceremoniously killed gay characters quickly after they were revealed to be in a relationship. DONT DO THIS). if an lgbt character dies, then that means other characters mustve died before as well, they canât be the one death toll there is (this is a problem pretty similar to âthe black guy dies firstâ)
all in all, just make diverse characters and respect them as well as your audience, and donât go for cheap plot twists by killing off characters for pure shock value.
I understand the sentiment behind this but it worries me at the same time because it could set the precedent of making lgbt characters untouchable. I want my lgbt characters treated the same as their straight counterparts, and that includes killing them too.

Yes Iâm aware of what you wrote. I have eyes. I already do what you suggested in my writing anyways and have done for years. I can worry about the issue without being part of the other side of the problem.
Regardless, it could set a precedent if left unchecked. Certain people will not stop at that even if loads of the characters were gay, and will complain that the killing of any gay character is queer baiting or burying the gays or whatever other bullshit they want to throw up instead of just accepting their favourite character is dead.

You say treat gay characters like any other character. That means killing them if it is required. Shielding them because theyâre gay is you actively protecting them for ideological reasons.
The LGBT makes up something like 5% of any given population. Expecting multiple LGBT characters in some settings are not reasonable. Expecting those characters to be treated with kids gloves is infantalizing.
If a straight character is killed as a cheap ploy for drama or to ratchet up tension, nobody cares that theyâre straight. The same should be said for gay characters. Call out the practice of shock deaths all you want, keep the LGBT out of it.
Your stupid approach to this creates a âchecklistâ of characters, AKA TOKENS. Having an extra gay character just so you can have the option of killing the first gay character is just as much tokenism as blatantly inserting a black character for asspats.
Your entire post is just a guilt trip, to try and twist creativeâs arms to insert more of what you want into their story. You donât need to insert more LGBT characters into your story if you donât want to. Having one LGBT character in your story is okay. Killing off that character is fine. You do not need âback up gaysâ.
