These same people are very fond of holding up the Spartans as the male ideal, this idealized race of warrior-kings that were hyper-macho and just sooooo hardcore, guys. For some reason, they always seem to forget the institutionalized pederasty, the overwhelming amounts of gay sex, and the fact that Spartan women arguably had more rights than in any of the other Greek city-states (still far from equal, but more than supposedly “enlightened” Athens). As with their Christianity (and everything else they supposedly admire, really), they don’t actually admire the Vikings, they admire a super stereotypical, historically inaccurate, and whitewashed version of the Vikings which just coincidentally happens to reinforce their prejudiced worldview.
