taking care of your skin

smiling more

doing more of what you love doing

exercising more

being in nature often

hydrating and moisturizing

taking long walks

going to concerts, parks and museums

reading interesting books

petting smol animals

Honestly they remind me of being at protests and feeling like I was in a war zone in my own city. They remind me of watching my friends put on gas masks and walk through tear gas to keep telling the police who were attacking us that my life mattered. Being face to face with confederate flag wearing, assault rifle carrying assholes yelling over me like white people have done my entire life.

That’s ONE of the reasons I don’t like fireworks.

It took me a long couple of months to figure out why I hated fireworks and THIS IS IT. Any loud bangs or smoke makes me incredibly anxious because it makes me think I’m about to get maced.

I didn’t realize how affected I was by the memory of these protests. I would do it again in a heartbeat and it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one.

We don’t celebrate this country’s independence because we’re not all free. Period.
