anyways first song to start this off with
ok so this was in my discover weekly and holy shit this song bangs so hard wtf
the bg music isn't the classic guitar/drums/rough punk kind of deal but it's really really cool? very original, at least imo. I feel like it rly adds to the overall tone of the song. also, love the vocals. lately I've been in a rut where I'll find a song w bangin music but the vocalist is annoying as fuck. hate to break it to emo bands, but the nasally voice that seems to have a chokehold on the genre IS THE FUCKING WORST and makes your otherwise enjoyable song unlistenable.
I literally cannot stand the nasal voice people do I understand that it's a staple of the genre but I was never big into the classic emo bands BC of that voice it's so fucking baddfggffhffh please just sing normally then I would actually listen to ur shit
ok moving on, second song
honestly bc of the vocals (reason above) I was torn on this track, but in the end it wormed its way into my head. extremely catchy and very fun, lots of ska influences (big fan). the little cooldown between verses where it's just a simple little guitar pluck is a really nice touch, adds a super cool vibe to the song and gives you time to absorb everything you just listened to. I feel like I should start rating these. ok this one gets a..... 6.5/10, it would get a 7 but the vocal style still annoys me just enough. also as much as I love ska punk, when it leans too far in the "proper" ska direction it just feels too weak 😔😔 part of the reason streetlight is one of the few ska bands I actually like (also rocket from the crypt) (hatef--k gets a........ honestly on the relisten I reallllyyy fucking love this song its very nostalgic somehow. probably a 9/10 bc FUCK!!!!!!!)
Dangerous Blues by The Young Veins
"wow this sounds so much like ryan ross lol that's so cool" *checks credits*
how does mr. ross keep finding me and taking over my favorite song spots. not ok sir, please share. anyways I, of course, I my youth was a p!atd stannie (v&v, p.o., and afycso still BANG I don't wanna HEAR IT when I post my spotify wrapped at the end of the year I don't want yall COMING FOR ME when patd is in my top 10 I can't help that ryan ross is a fucking musical genius) and therefore the era I was obsessed with has manipulated my music taste in a cruel way. therefore anything by mr. ross is angelic in nature. all of his side projects inevitably find me by surprise and become the thing I play on repeat for the next month. (the brobecks, the young veins, etc.) therefore I obviously adore this song and everything about it. ITS JUST SO GOOD. 9.5/10, not his best work but perfect nonetheless.
Cadillac Car by Playboy Manbaby
not the most lyrically or sonically impressive but. it's fun! sometimes that's all u need. I like the vibes. vocals are very satisfying, scratches the right place in my brain. I don't have a lot to say abt this song but it's fun to have play in the car with your windows down. 8/10! I also like the exaggeration the singer has in their voice.
I Don't Wanna Die by The Unicorns
I feel like this is cheating. I've been obsessed w this song for YEARS. how I found it? if u know u know. but that doesn't change the fact that this song was on REPEAT 6th-10th grade for me fr fr‼️‼️ maybe even before that! anyways I fucking love this song and The Unicorns in general, highly recommend. 10/10, I gotta. the visceral reaction I get from listening to this song is unbeatable. idk if it's the nostalgia but I go absolutely FERAL. THE BREATH IN AT THE END UHG ITS UNBEATABLE oh my god
anyways I don't want to type anymore so I guess it's gonna be like 5 songs from my discover weekly every week or smth idk!! or just whatever the fuck I want 😎 gaming
