I just want to uncover a secret society at my university because I fell in love with the mysterious boy in my classical literature class. I want my favourite professor to teach us the dark, romantic musings of dead poets, and play us old jazz records in his study until dawn. We’ll break into closed museums and get drunk on red wine, debate metaphysical theories, and have our first kiss in the shelves of a quiet bookstore as our friends bicker around us.

wishing for a girlfriend with whom I could write love letters to every day. I want to give her tea packets and pressed flowers and send pictures whenever we’re apart. penpal girlfriend. i’m genuinely yearning for her!! i want to travel across europe with her and shower her in love!
This last weekend absolutely broke my heart. Due to the increase of Corona in Europe, I had to leave my exchange year nearly four months early.
This is an experience I know I will never get back, and I am so disappointed in myself for not making the most of my time, as well as my organization for allowing this. Though I know there was nothing that could have been done differently, my heart is heavy when I realize that I won’t see sunrises on the Rhine anymore. My days of stopping at the bakery by my school or grabbing a drink with friends are done for now. I can’t walk down a quiet little street in Mainz or get caught in the rain in the vineyards. I will have to put up my cheer shoes and give my host family’s dog one last walk by the cemetery.
Despite this loss, I am so grateful to have met the people I have met and to have seen what I’ve seen. I’ve learned so much about myself and the world around me while in Germany, and I just pray that these doors will be opened again to me one day.
For now, I will reflect on my time. My chapter abroad may be ended, but a new one is being written for me. I will move on with the memories of my second home, and I can’t wait to see where that will take me. My heavy heart will lighten soon, and with that, I’ll truly grow from my experiences.
Hi, do you remember me? You caressed me two blocks ago, can I stay?

An oldie but a goodie! I’m cranking out some school work today- graduation requirements and college apps sadly do not complete themselves while I’m not looking. Thankfully I have some fun plans for the next week to help me power through! Furthermore, I’m planning a road trip with some friends for the summer- hiking in Kansas!

Sunday Reflection

This past week has been a whirlwind of new experiences. It has been one week for me with my new host family and Gymnasium, but I have also turned 18, explored the Rhineland Palatinate capital, and have made plans to try out for a new Cheerleading team to occupy my free time. Furthermore, I’m planning on finding a costume for Karneval later this month and trying to go on a day trip to a nearby village here on the Rhine with a fellow exchange student. Though my time here in Germany is quickly speeding through - 11 months rapidly fell down to 4 and 1/2 months. I cannot believe this. - I want to make the most of my time left here by going out, exploring, learning, and discovering all that I can. This year has shown me some of the best and worst parts of me, but this self-discovery and independence is such a blessing in disguise.
I could be drunk right now. - every German exchange student ever, all the time.
school mindset
essays - make each essay you write better than the last
small assignments - aim for 100s, expect 100s, get 100s
homework - pretend they’re assignments
homework that’s not graded - pretend! they’re! assignments!
tests - study for 100s, expect less
long term projects - act like it’s due in four days -even when it’s not- until you’re done with it
group projects - do not get angry
presentations - pretend you’re obama
disclaimer - this works for me, it may not work for everybody, do not push yourself too hard!!
This is such a great way to treat college work!

I’ve been challenging myself massively recently and I am so happy. Today my adventures in a new city by myself reminded my of something my coach told me. “Any growth requires a degree of discomfort.” None of what I’ve been doing has been in my comfort zone and because of this, I’ve grown massively. Same goes for anything new, studying, going to the gym, eating healthy or meditating. It won’t be easy at first but that only means you’re growing and improving.
