Pembroke has been actively hunting the monsters that crawled through the now weird ruins of the city. He made a pit stop home to drop off a rather large corpse he deemed worthy of a meal. Now he was a decent cook, even if he preferred the meat to be raw. Still kicking as his wife put it. A four legged… Whatever the fuck it was laid thrown haphazardly on the counters. Well… It barely fit there, now did it?

You’ve developed a pretty “live and let live” philosophy, born through a life of trials and hardships, or something like that. Killing? Shit doesn’t phase you. 

At the same time, though, you really would not come home to a giant mound of flesh sitting on the countertop. Like, it’s fine. It’s chill. But it’s blocking the cabinets.

Okay, part of the reason you keep fighting instead of just watching from the safety zones is because you sort of want to catch a glimpse of her. At the same time, you don’t know what you’ll say to her, and you might just not say anything, but you at least want the opportunity to not say anything. 

When you see a troll with a teal symbol (though the hair and fashion sense should have immediately tipped you off that something’s weird here), you forget to breathe for a second. Then you realize.

VRISKA: Holy fuck.

VRISKA: I don’t know how I got there, or here. We’re all stuck in some kind of crapfest science project, 8ut like, it’s not that 8ad. I’m not dead anymore, for one thing.

You give him a look that you hope very clearly conveys, “Uh, yeah, it looks like you do need my help.” But just in case the look fails.

He doesn’t look too good. It’s actually really pathetic and sad seeing him barely able to swing his club around. You feel pity towards him, and layered on top of that, disgust at yourself for feeling said pity.

VRISKA: There’s a safe zone not too far from here. I can clear a path for you. O8viously, since you’re in no shape to fight, you’d 8etter listen to me.

Why are you doing all this? You’d stopped the whole playing the hero bullshit a while ago. 

You decide to stop asking yourself questions while you stare at him, waiting for him to get up. Perhaps you should try to help him? 

You’ll stare a bit longer first. See what he decides to do.

Fighting goblins is relatively easy, really, but the fuckers just keep spawning. What’s worse is that it’s not like a video game where the bodies just sort of disappear. No, the bony corpses are almost more obnoxious than killing the things.

What you need is someone STRONG to crush the bones to powder.

You haven’t really seen Equius in ages, which is really kind of bad of you. He was a good neighbor, after all. It was fun being in cahoots and anticipating how you would stab each other in the back. Metaphorically, of course. You have nothing against Equius, and the metal arm he built for you was pretty rad.

VRISKA: Heeeeeeeey, Equius.

VRISKA: Good to see you! Really. You’re pro8a8ly strong as ever, right?

VRISKA: Anyways. You see all these corpses? I’ve 8een hard at work m8king this city livea8le 8ecause smashing things is fun, 8ut I can’t really walk around here. 

You pause to elbow a goblin in the eye socket.

You’ve ventured outside the safe zones, not so much to protect them, but because fighting shit gives you something to do. In the distance, amidst throngs of creatures, you see buildings slowly materializing, and you’re honestly interested in what they’re going to be. It feels like new beginnings or something cheesy like that, and you maybe feel a bit of... hope?

That’s silly. In fact, while you were taking a self-indulgent moment to philosophize, a blue creature very nearly ran straight into you.

VRISKA: Hey! I get that there’s a lot going on and you pro8a8ly gotta go fast, 8ut while you’re going fast, can you also look where you’re headed?

Different place, same bullshit. Honestly, it adds a little excitement, you guess.

The goblins are fine, and kind of fun to smash to bits. You could still do without the ghosts, though.

Ignoring the ghosts and back to the goblins, then. The bony fuckers just keep coming back for more, and you really think they’re becoming more vicious with time. You’re crunching your fist through a mess of the things when you see the back of one of your least favorite trolls, if you had to list them. Honestly, when he was afraid of you it was almost kind of cute, but the shit he pulled after you died was decidedly not cute.

For some reason, you nevertheless sock a goblin in the skull before it can wrap its arms around your acquaintance. Some might say you’re a nicer person than you used to be. 

VRISKA: You 8etter watch yourself. These things are weak, 8ut they don’t know when to stop.

You’ve probably made things awkward now. That’s what you get when you decide to play the hero for Gamzee fucking Makara. Good job, Vriska. Really, great work!

Anyways, Nic is the only spider for you because he’s the softest, strongest, smartest creature that ever lived, is living, or will live or otherwise exist.

Except, you glance at the aisle over instead, and right by the rabbits, there’s someone you’ve been doing your very best to avoid. And, also at that moment, your luck decides to abandon you, and said person meets your gaze.

Well. You can’t just walk away because then he’d know you’re avoiding him. He’s probably the one trying to avoid you, which is really kind of offensive, though at the same time you know why he’s avoiding you and you kind of regret some (a lot?) of things that happened. But like, that’s in the past, right?
