☱ : it had been a while since they had "spoken." yukari had hoped she liked that gift... but perhaps she should have followed up with an actual meeting face-to-face sooner.

If it’s passion Eiden has no intention losing to anyone. He was one of the top designers on his previous job. But work is always a little different from what you thought. He worked even a little too hard back at home but even so he had no intention of giving up the dream here. 

“ Sure – we’re a custom shop so the collection here is pretty small but please follow me! “ 

☱  : yukari can admire the dedication he puts into his work, even if the objects he creates are of little actual interest to her. there’s something about humans when they dedicate themselves to their hobbies and turn them into a living - it’s something she, as a youkai, will never have to do, will never need to do. so long as humanity needs to exist, she too will exist.

the smile upon her face is wide and perhaps as close to genuine as she might get, though it’s probably unnerving to anyone else aside from herself. she steps ahead of him towards the door.

‘then on we go, yes?’ she says this, and stops to turn to face him again.

‘i’m curious, though - how did you decide upon your passion? did it simply come to you in a dream? a fortunate accident?’

Sculpting things for Lord Ainz seemed quite a task for her, knowing she dearly misses her lord. They were made by paper of different colors, prior to she had nothing to do than to be mostly indoors. She could make the Floor Guardians next, except Shalltear Bloodfallen obviously.

Not really that many, she only made two for now which is Ainz in a robe and Narberal Gamma.

“A grand collection to my new place. I was used to live at 301 until the ‘gods’ banished me and got me here in 312.” Albedo had no plans to disappear again but if she does, she will curse the gods.

☱  : what an... interesting pastime. yukari could admire the skill, perhaps, but the creations were certainly - a sight. perhaps she wasn’t in any place to make such a judgement upon another’s work, and should withhold her internal observations.

‘ah, so you intend them as decor for your home? how quaint.’ that comes off a little more condescending than complimentary, so she shifts slightly in the conversation.

‘then you have returned to your own world and back again? interesting.’ she’s not entirely certain that she’s also done the same herself, having thought of it as a particularly elaborate dream that she’d ever left in the first place - though that might have been more of a romantic notion than fact - but the prospect catches her attention. ‘tell me more. had much time passed, when you returned home?’

she’s not offended, however - far from it - for it is difficult to be offended over something that’s essentially a regular occurrence, albeit one from her old life. certainly difficult to gauge from her heavy eyes and slight frown that may as well be a PERMANENT fixture upon her face.

❝nevertheless, i suppose i can AGREE with that. though you likely would have already slipped off if we were back in gensokyo. i don’t believe this is a fate that i’d gladly bestow on many.❞ despite her grousing, her lips turn just ever slightly upwards. ❝the fact that i can’t leave is still a MISERABLE thought, but besides that – i don’t mind being here.❞

☱  : yukari is disinclined to continue this conversation - the prospect of simply opening up one of her gaps and vanishing into the ether comes to the forefront of her mind. the only thing keeping her from doing as much is an intense curiosity and the simple desire to save face. perhaps, just this once, she can afford to allow a sliver of her mind to slip through to the satori. it might be nice to be understood as well, for once.

‘oh, i have plenty of terrible thoughts. most of them aren’t very exciting, i will warn you.’

‘it’s a pleasant enough place, if you ignore the occasional violent outbursts. i don’t know how i feel about being kept here like a specimen in a jar.‘ the smile that hasn’t left her face lags a bit, but it’s back in a split-second. ‘i suppose this place is much more accepting of you than those back home. it must be an improvement, yes?’

The shop bell brings Eiden from his work trance back to the present. With a long stretch he gets up from the chair, glancing the finished design for the Cocktober sales signs before turning the computer down.

“ Just a moment! “ he quickly shouts rushing his step ahead.

Eiden is minding his tone but even now whenever customers arrive he still finds his chest all fluttery. The shops is still small after all. While he wishes for a day where he could stay a little more unaffected, it’s at least easy to bring a customer service smile like this. 

“ Good evening miss! “ he meets her with an enthusiastic greeting.

“ We’re still in our starting shoes so right now it’s all fairly small – but miss I’d like to note that adult goods aren’t necessarily a new invention! The selection naturally has grown since older times though hehe. Your first time in this sort of establishment is it?  “

☱  : she’s appreciative of the attention, though yukari wonders what sort of personality this proprietor might conceal. still - perhaps there are some questions better left unanswered. or perhaps she should just take someone’s cheer at face value?

unlikely, but still. she returns his cheer with a smile of her own and, however put-upon it may be, it could probably pass for genuine, if a little overdone.

‘good evening indeed.’

‘and i do suppose you’re right - i’ve just never seen them for sale before.’ a lie, given that she’s visited the outside world more than enough times to know better. ‘it’s charming, actually. why not give people the means to their own enjoyment? but... yes, this would be my first time patronizing a shop like this. perhaps you could give me the basic tour?’

☱  : she sees him far below, eating under the great tree that dominates the landscape of this sector. it’s a quaint sight; nearly all who pass beneath its boughs are dwarfed and made to look like ants by comparison. of course, it’s likely one of the safer locations around the island so yukari cannot fault anyone for seeking out the occasional bit of solitude in the shade of this grand and lively living tree.

there’s an inevitable curiosity in her, to see why the boy chooses such a place to eat lunch. she leans out of the gap keeping her suspended in the air far above to call out down below.

‘i hope not to interrupt, but...’ who is she attempting to fool? of course she does intend to bother him. if he looks skyward, he’ll see the face of the interloper peering down at him.

‘is it pleasant, to recline beneath this overshadowing monstrosity of a tree? or perhaps do you like the relative quiet of this place? or is it just a means to an end? - a meal.’

☱  : there’s always something new to be found on the island; whether that’s a positive or a detriment depends on one’s perspective, and yukari simply takes it all in stride. for better or worse, she’s here and, outside of the myriad responsibilities back home that certainly lay neglected, in search of satisfaction for her endless whims and curiosities.

shops like this definitely didn’t exist back home. she’s not quite sure what to make of it - it’s certainly a fixture of the modern age. she stares up at the sign with a mix of wonderment and perplexion writ across her face, eyebrows raised in amusement that overwrites all.

‘how quaint. i wonder how many patrons this sort of thing gets...?’

‘perhaps i’m more out of touch with the modern age than i thought.’

☱  : there’s always humans in abundance here. it’s in stark contrast to gensokyo, where the youkai run rampant and the humans remain sequestered within the safety of the village made just for them. yukari likes the contrast; it makes the world a little more lively, a little more interesting, just to see the vast slice of humanity that has carved out a way of life even under duress. there’s a certain flexibility and adaptability to humans that youkai simply do not possess, stuck to the old ways as they have lived since time immemorial.

yukari, she’s always interested in the new and modern - that’s one of the virtues of being able to travel in and out of gensokyo like few others can. she’s very well-acquainted with technology and other modern conveniences, so it’s almost funny to see humans who either have not encountered the newer inventions of the age, or simply have little to no competence with the former.

‘trouble with your phone? i would think that they’d begun to offer a tutorial upon arrival with all its functions, but perhaps they thought it a waste of time.’ she’s not quite certain what the girl is attempting to do with it - something apparently beyond the simplistic functions of texting or calling another - but she plops herself down with little grace on the bench beside the other.

‘then again, i know not everyone hails from lands of equal technological prowess. that makes it more fun, i suppose.’

☱  : everyone’s different: it’s a trite statement to make, but the residents of the island truly make manifest the truth of that triteness in vibrant and wonderful ways. yukari can appreciate the ways in which the people here bring life to a place that was ultimately an elaborate prison. the stranger she’s watching today is just as much of an oddity as the others, but in a surprisingly endearing way. this certainly isn’t like any youkai she’s personally seen before, but that’s just part of the appeal.

can you call it people-watching if the target in question turns into a squid? she leans on her elbows and gazes as the other changes between forms with ease, lower half of her body resting within one of the gaps she habitually uses to recline.

‘you’re quick at that, aren’t you? is it a true magic transformation, or are you simply half-squid?’ dare she suggest the possibility of a were-squid? if wolves could do it, then why not squids?

‘but don’t pay me any mind. i’m just an innocent observer.’

☱  : this woman is making little figurines. that in and of itself is not unusual, but the fervor and dedication with which she goes about her task is something she’s seen in few sans the kappa and their mechanical creations. yukari can appreciate that sort of effort, even if she has no interest in expending anywhere near as much energy herself. she leans out over one of her gaps to admire and observe from a few feet above - probably not enough distance to be safe, considering the obvious inhumanity of the woman, but she’s not concerned with that at the moment.

‘curious, that you’ve made so many. are they to be sold? or do you just want to make a grand collection? who is he?’

☱  : the scent of death lingers around this girl. it’s not an entirely unusual sign in humans, but this one has an especially powerful aroma, one that yukari could liken more to stench than fragrance. it’s intriguing; youkai follow and seek out death and other aspects of the supernatural like moths to the light, and on this occasion, perhaps she herself is no exception. the curiosity gnaws at her, and so she must obey the whim as it strikes.

she could probably do better than to appear from the gap like a creature of horror, however.

‘goodness, it’s stronger up close.’

‘pardon me for taking a moment of your time. i only wondered about the reason you stink of death. is that normal for you?’

☱  : now this was an interesting sight to behold; yukari had not thought she might lay eyes on a robotic lifeform of any sort walking about so freely on the island, but this place was designed to surprise and, rarely, delight. she wasn’t the type to be deterred by circumstance, and so she flits toward him, effortlessly gliding through the air with of one of her disconcerting rips in space as a seat. at eye-level, she thinks, would be a suitable place to have a discussion with someone new.

‘good afternoon. how do you do? i wanted to see what you were up close. not a mecha, like i’d thought, but - ’

‘interesting nonetheless.’

very fun hurricane update, feel free to ignore: good news! we got internet back this evening about an hour ago (power came back three days ago) and while we still have repairs and whatnot to take care of + no clean water (but hey, showers and boiling everything else!), i should be able to start writing again. helps that i’m going back on nights (i think) for the foreseeable future.

anyway, i know i posted the original bit about the coming storm on my miko blog but i just wanted to uh, update. i’ll delete this in a day or so when i’ve started posting again. peace for now.

☱ : for anyone else, discovering a resident of her homeland might have been a boon. instead, yukari feels nothing but an undercurrent of dread upon meeting once again with a satori - the same young woman she had met the previous time, at that. it hadn’t gone entirely unwell, as far as interactions went, but the looming possibility of having her mind read was what made her uneasy.

alas, there really wasn’t much use in attempting to avoid someone who’d already seen you, was there? yukari smiles and offers a wave, nothing on the surface betraying any possible inner turmoil that might have been stirring up.

‘so we meet again! what a shame it has to be here, hm? still enjoying your time above ground, miss satori?‘

☱ : yukari doesn’t know what to think — or expect — when she sees the advertisements for for the talent agency. it’s not something that would necessarily hold her interest but for the name she spies at the bottom of the flier, and that is someone she most certainly would like to meet with. perhaps she’s a future ahead of her as part of this little agency after all? at the very least she should fill out the form and take it with her as she pays a visit to her dear old friend.

with that in mind, she sets out through one of her gaps and directly to the agency’s office. whether or not it’s in use is of no concern to her, though it would be entirely more convenient if it did happen to be occupied at the moment she slipped in and made herself comfortable.

and that did seem to be the case.

‘my, what a surprise to see you here, okina.’

‘and here i thought i’d just be able to... bide my time and wait for your return while you were out of office. how careless of me!’ words do not match actions as she continues to lounge upon the gap she’s opened into the space. ‘i do hope your business is going well.’

☱  :  ‘would you like the trick... or the treat?’ first a hand pops out of the gap, and then the rest of yukari follows. she’s dressed in a cheap imitation of a certain ghost’s attire. the blue is a good color for her at least, and the hitaikakushi on her cap has at least signaled to some that she is supposed to be a ghost. one ghost in particular, but that will be lost on most.

‘i know this is usually done differently, but i thought i would try this my own way. well? which do you choose?’
